Oh and Anthony- you know its not very nice to say things behind my back when it has been me who has been promoting your Vanessa Carlton site ALL over youtube. All my videos have links to your site and I have had hundreds of people asking for sheet music. All of which I directed to you!

yeah, she looks like a lunatic.

LOL :D I think she did a great job- So what everyone only posts BORING as covers of them at the piano or keyboard in their boring house- and she just did a video clip to go with it. What's wrong with that? just because no one has done it before dosn't mean it's bad.

The make-up on the other hand is her own style. That just means she is combining elements of the artist and elements of her own style.

Besides, she's the only one who has done a cover. :D

And I don't need a hug lol I think I am very happy being #6 in NZ on youtube this month!!

Oh and 'The One' tutorial is up :) ditto White Houses and San Francisco ^_^

Vanessa Songs / Lyrics / Sheet Music / Colours..

Wow everyone's is sooo different!!
I actually imagine Papa to be blueish and white houses to be red, because its in c and its quite simple and strong- like the colour red. C'est la vie is like a yellow-green, but actually depending on the moment and what mood im in (and what I think of the song at that point in time, whether I like it or not) depends on what colour I picture it to be! True for you guys too?

Thanks so much!!
Yea you are totally talented coz your only 14!! and Im 17- big dif. When I was 14 I could only just play some of the songs off BNNB, there was NO WAY I could transcribe anything. The fact you post your stuff on youtube already is so cool! haha yea I just loooooove Vanessa Carlton, what can I say lol

Thank you!
Yes it is a bit different, especially in the chorus. But anyway yea I think it works as a whole- and honestly JUST what Nessa plays would not sound as pretty or interesting as it does with the other harmonies of the other instruments. I'll leave the job of transcribing the solo piano to someone else.... lol

But yea, thanks!

Would you guys mind if i had it figured out, but the arrangement included all the instruments off the CD version, rather than solely what the piano plays? (otherwise it sounds quite empty)

Would you all mind?
Im thinking of posting it on youtube but sometimes ppl get quite picky...

Vanessa Songs / Lyrics / Sheet Music / C'est La Vie
« on: November 22, 2007, 04:52:39 pm »
C'est La vie is an awesome song. I guess though, it does describe the raw feeling of having the empty aloneness even though you may have someone you are attached to. Its like describing when the relationship is in a dead end. I only love it because I could totally relate to it. If you can't relate to it, of course it will make no sense and sound really annoying and boring.
That's also what I've found with Heroes and Thieves. Like I hated the One, but after I found myself in a situation where i could relate to it, all of a sudden I really liked it.

But yea, we only like what we know.

I was a little thrilled when I saw this thread, b/c it was exactly what the doctor ordered, b/c it hits on the nail what I'm thinkin'.

blah blah this is too long and tiresome to quote the whole thing

V may think her album is da bomb-diggity and her best work yet, but I beg [w/ all due respect], b/c it's about as far from that as it can get. It's very sad that V is wasting her vocal talent by singing in a monotone voice, b/c she's MUCH MORE capable than this. [I think 'Home' is from her demo, but I'm not sure.] She has a clear, beautiful voice [not to mention that she kind of sounds like Jewel], but she totally did herself under by doing a hack job on HAT w/ her dull, flat, boring monotone vocals. Yeah, [like some fans] I'm disappointed that songs such as 'Best Behavior' and 'All Is Well' didn't make the cut, but at this point it doesn't really matter anyway, b/c HAT is such a crappy album. On 'The One' [the live version w/ the shitty quality] V sang the song like her life literally DEPENDED on singing it right. She sang the song w/ such emotion that I almost cried; I'd NEVER heard her sing like that [except on some of her demo songs], even on BNN. But on HAT, she did a HORRIBLE job on the song vocally.

What the fuck are you TALKING about?
First, it is absolutely not necessary to capitalize the name of every album you reference.
Secondly, please don't ever compare Vanessa Carlton and Avril Lavigne again.
Third, if you refer to her as "Vannie" again I will have to cyberslap you.
Fourth and most important, I don't understand why you continue to listen to Vanessa and be a "fan." Your posts are generally incredibly overly critical of Vanessa and her music, and from what I can tell, you've rarely liked a thing she's done since BNN. If her music and vocals are too simple for you (which you're constantly complaining about her lack of complexity), go find someone else to listen to.

I don't think her vocals are "monotone" at all. Have you listened to the last verse of Home? Or the last lines of Fools Like Me? "The trees grow so thick... granted one more wish" in More Than This?
Vanessa made a beautiful album that she's very proud of and while it is different than her others and obviously different from your preferred type of music, calling it GOD AWFUL and whatever the fuck else you said during your little tirade is just rude. But I thought it was cute you threw in the "all due respect" line, because I don't think there was any respect in your post at all. Ann-Marie and others offered their criticisms in a respectful manner, whereas you threw insults.
Now, since you're so unhappy, stop being a fan a go away finally.

I do think to say its "God Awful" is a little harsh.........  8O

Her singing has actually improved quite a bit. I actually have had training in classical singing (Opera) and the way most of the old Vanessa songs are sung, is by singing from your throat, not your diaphragm. Its actually quite bad. I like the sound, but its not "Technicaly" very good. Vanessa is now singing correctly. I only noticed the out of tune-ness and monotone-ness in "The One" during the bridge. I assume this is because she is harmonizing. (which is difficult to do!)
And also she has to keep in time, so everything was slowed, including her voice. Her singing has changed, and it probably dosn't have as much character, but at least she has matured in the skill of it all.

And More than this, Vanessa's Vocal,s the producing and everything about this song is perfect. This song is my favourite and would blow anyone away. The ideas are awesome (including the lyrics of the last half)
And I agree! Avril Lavgine is ICKY ICKY ICKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ewwwww.
that is very insulting to poor Nessa!

Now now, so evryone calm down. Don't worry after a few listens it will grow on anyone who thinks they don't like it. :)

I'm still a fan of V, but not of this album at this point. Which is pretty sad, 'cuz I've waited a little over 2 years for this album, and it's fallen short of my expectations... at least sound-wise and vocally. I was expecting something like HARMONIUM and BNN put together, but more progressive and mature. NF is the best track so far. The only thing that really wowed me was the classically-inspired bit on 'Home', which is the longest song on the album. I hope against all hope that V doesn't sing the way she did on HAT on her future records, 'cuz her voice was just a mess [as well as the protooling, production, and engineering]. It could mean her career going down the tubes. The album cover is haunting [it even scares me b/c V looks like she's gonna jump out and eat me at anytime], but I like it. The photos for the album are pretty lame, though [the ones for BNN and HARMONIUM were pretty good].

Yea I know! Have you tried listening to it over and over? It does get better.. What can I say- I REALLY wanted Best Behavior on the album

Is there anywhere where I can find the sheet music for the last bit of Home?  Around 3:30 there's a pause in the music and it goes into different notes.  I've figured out most of them but it's the really fast notes at the end that I can't get.

Help?

Its just the C major chord repeated. like a similar thing in Where the streets have no name. GFEC miss out the D, and I think she goes down and then up on maybe a few notes but not all. Like a half arpeggio? I need to put it on a CD and play along to the song before I know exactly but I hope that helps. There are only two chords I think as the third is an Octave higher? I think or else its three chords. The left hand continues as normal.
I am putting up the tutorial this week, its not too difficult to figure out so if you get stuck you could wait till the tutorial is up? Hope that helps.  :)

Hey AnneMarie, I'm not trying to critique your tutorials, but I think it might be helpful if you said which parts of the song are in the tutorials in order like :01- :25 (first verse), :25-1:15 (chorus), 1:16-1:49 (bridge) etc. Because I know I like to skip around and that sort of makes it easier to know where to find what we need. For example, for fools like me I wasn't sure which Part (1 or 2) the bridge was in because you called it "the last little bit") and i didn't know what that meant really. So I sort of had to hunt for it.

Thanks! Sorry! Your tutorials are good though.

Nah don't worry about it! You are very polite so I'm not offended! Its good to get constructive criticism.   I actually was wondering about that too!! Perhaps, as just saying it quickly before i play- "Oh btw this is section bla bla" if you happened to skip past it, it wouldn't be very useful.
People do still say some are confusing because of this, and i agree it would help to do it in sections.

Maybe, Do you think it would be a big help if I posted all the tutorials as seperate videos for each section and name them: "Who's to say Verse" and "Who's to say chorus" Or something like that? Is that what you would like? I am thinking about ways to improve them as I know I can be a bit fumbly.
Only problem is that I try to cater for both advanced and beginners- its very difficult. Anyway let me know what you think- and if anyone else wants to give their advice feel free.
P.S I am changing the FLM tutorial. Making it clearer. And also the Pretty Baby one and yea.

Hmmm well its interesting that now the truth starts to come out.... I said this under the ratings of the album post. I agree with you, it's commercial.
But you know, Nessa has obviously chosen commercial success over musical genuis! lol

Listen to it like 20 times, and you will start to like more of the songs. I was really annoyed originally- I felt cheated.

I agree with you though- songs like FLM and HOM could have been 5 stars, instead all the other instruments dominate. I wish there was more piano!
But hopefully nessa will get her wish and the album will be wonderfully successful. Then maybe after that we will go back to real good ol' Nessa music :)

In the mean time, enjoy what we have been given. The Cd is still good, despite its flaws, and the lyrics are definitely a development from previous. (although sections can be a tad tacky in some points)
It's interesting not many others have posted here- I would have thought this would have been a hot discussion topic.

Best Album would probably be BNNB, because of its Purity.
