General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Some cool news
« on: November 02, 2007, 05:28:36 pm »
I don't know if West Virginia matters at all, but it's where I live, lol, and something really cool happened the other day. My friends and I were riding in the car, and we were listening to a local radio station, which is 103 CIR, and that station is, like, THE station to listen to. It's the "Hit Music Station." Anyway, that stupid fucking Soulja Boy song came on, for the millionth time, and I was in hell. But after that went off, guess what they played? WHITE...freaking...HOUSES! I was so excited and happy and kinda surprised. They used to play ATM and OD a lot, and they even played Pretty Baby a few times. But they've never really played WH, and I thought that if they were going to play a song of hers now, it would be Nolita. But hey, I wasn't complaining! I was THRILLED. What was also cool was that my two friends love that song. Katey loves Vanessa in general, she's not a Nessaholic, but she loves ATM, OD, WH, Nolita, and Hands on Me. She LOVES Hands on Me and WH especially. Michelle isn't really a fan, but like I said, she loves WH and likes Nolita Fairytale a lot too. (But she doesn't like ATM. That amuses me.) Don't know if anyone cares, but I was ECSTATIC, lol.

I did this when I reviewed Harmonium on Amazon, so I thought I'd do it with Heroes and Thieves, especially now that I've had time to let the album really sink in. Any feedback is welcome.

I have been an avid Nessaholic for about 6 years now, and Vanessa is one of my favorite artists. I'm not going to blather on about how much I love her like I did in my review for Harmonium; instead, let's focus on the topic at hand: Vanessa's absolutely brilliant third album, Heroes & Thieves. They say that the third time's the charm...well, I guess that cliche holds true for Vanessa. Both of her previous albums were amazing, but this one surpasses them easily. Harmonium was particularly stunning, and I applaud V for being able to create a masterpiece that goes above and beyond that record. Heroes & Thieves has a classical-pop sound, a sound that evokes artists like Elton John, Billy Joel, Carole King, and yes, Stevie Nicks, who duets with Vanessa in "The One." Musically, it's gorgeous, layered, and positively uplifting; a rush of sadness, wistfulness, exuberance, and hope. Lyrically, it's honest, powerful, poignant, mature, and poetic. It's the kind of album that becomes the soundtrack to your days. For me, the songs resonate within, and this album keeps me centered, it keeps me grounded, and it keeps me always appreciative and grateful for what I have, courtesy of bittersweet tearjerkers like "Spring Street" and "More Than This." The latter is THE single best song Vanessa has ever written, and it makes for a spectacular finish to a spectacular album. Other tracks, like "My Best" and "Come Undone", keep my toes tapping and flood my heart with joy; while at the same time, filling me with the sweetest kind of melancholy, like nostalgia. Vanessa Carlton is a true artist, and in the words of Stevie Nicks, she is "one of the great ones." It's pathetic how underappreciated she is. Heroes & Thieves is a rare work of art that will make you sing, make you dance, make you think, and make you cry. Buy this now, and discover real, passionate, stirring music from a someone with real talent.

Keep creating, Vanessa. I'll keep listening.

What's up with the Street Team section of the boards? How do you join? I've been promoting V unofficially for a long time now.

Introduce Yourself / HELLO, EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!
« on: July 27, 2005, 04:33:26 am »
Hi, guys! I'm not necessarily new, but I've registered once before and then forgot about it, so now my e-mail has changed and I had to re-register. I used to be Sway_In_My_Arms, so that name doesn't exist anymore. I dislike my new name (Nessaholic4Ever) but I don't know how to change it.    I've been an avid Nessaholic since BNN and "Ordinary Day." OD was the song that really drew me in. So I'm a longtime fan. LOL, I'm babbling in fragments like an idiot. Hope to make good friends with my fellow NESSAholics!!!!!!
