Completely Off-Topic / Help!
« on: April 23, 2005, 05:08:26 am »
Well Nessaholics, the time has come for me to beg for your help again. My boyfriend and I have been doing themed dinners for each other for the past few weeks- partly as a joke, lol. I have decided to do a baseball theme (based on his favourite film The Sandlot, if you know it)- and i need IDEAS! I have no clue about baseball because i'm English so i really really need everyone's help!

ANY ideas you have at all for a baseball themed dinner i would be so grateful for! So far i have thought of having hot dogs and nachos but i need ideas about how to decorate the room and everything!

So post post post! hehe

Completely Off-Topic / Some American Help!
« on: February 06, 2005, 04:55:31 am »
Wow, bet you thought you'd never see me write that! hehe.

My boyfriend was brought up on American culture- and so loves all of the American food etc etc. Trouble is, you can't get any of it here. I have looked online everywhere particularly for Toaster Strudel and Lucky Charms but i can't find anywhere to buy it from and to get it posted here. I want to get him some stuff for Valentines Day/his birthday.

So i was wondering, does anyone know anywhere i can buy this stuff? Or any really typical american food? And if i can't find anywhere to buy it, if anyone would be really kind and send me some stuff (i'd pay you through paypal or through the mail)? Any suggestions are helpful!

Rosie :rosie: (hehe, any excuse)

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / White Houses in the UK
« on: October 16, 2004, 08:21:00 am »
I think there must be plans to release White Houses here soon because i heard it today in Costa Coffee on their music system, and my friend heard it in Dorothy Perkins today aswell. I was freaking out! Its so much better hearing it when you don't know its coming.

Does anyone know anything about this? Shall the UK Euronessaholics start an offensive!?

Completely Off-Topic / Marmite: a guide for ignorant Yanks.
« on: October 14, 2004, 08:55:53 am »
Well, we thought it was about time we set things straight- so here's a little guide to our favourite condiment.

Kev & Rosie: Hmmm. We're positively famished! Whatever shall we have to eat on this fine Autumn (not fall) evening?

Rosie: Let's see... I've got AMERICAN bagels? AMERICAN waffles? or a terrific slice of traditional ENGLISH bread!?

Rosie: No contest! Bread it is.

Kev: Splendid choice! Now what on earth shall we have on it? I have Marmite or Peanut Butter.

Kev: The yanks are always harping on about how great this stuff is, perhaps we should give it a try?

Rosie: Stop! Oh dear God! Nooooo!

Kev: Too late! *heave* Ugh, RANK! *heave* Is this stuff a joke?! If it is, then it's about as funny as an episode of Will & Grace *chunder*

Kev: So it's settled. Our old chum Marmite it is!
Rosie: Spiffing! Now let's teach those tasteless yanks how to make a PROPER tasty snack, shall we?

Rosie: First, place the bread into a PROPER toaster. Warning: do not use anything resembling this abomination against all toaster kind.

Kev: Next, press down the button on your proper toaster. If you do not have a button, then you probably have a crap toaster. Silly n00b.

Rosie: Next take some ENGLISH butter.
Kev: Do make sure that it says it's "English" on the wrapper. American butter no doubt contains inordinately large amounts of fat.

Rosie: Now spread the English butter all over the toast. If any of you are having trouble with this step, then you will probably find it much easier to use our imperialism analogy. Simply imagine that the butter is the set of American values and/or the American way of life and that the toast is the rest of the world.
Kev: If the concept of "rest of the world" confuses you, then try this

Kev: Spread the marmite on top, nice and thick. Do this in much the same way as above. Remember to use the imperialism analogy if you get stuck.

Rosie: Don't forget to lick your knife!

Rosie: The next step should be a doddle. Simply stuff your face. We won't go into excess detail here because we presume that, as an American, you're highly proficient at stuffing your face already.

Kev: Finally wash it all down with a sip of tea! Cheers!

Rosie: But whatever shall we do with this ghastly peanut butter? It's not fit for human consumption!
Kev: Why not let Pocket have it?

Rosie: She looks frankly DISGUSTED at the sight of it!
Kev: Even our animals won't touch that foreign filth. And I don't blame them!

Kev: There's only one place for peanut butter, the dustbin (do make sure that it goes into a dustbin and not a trash or garbage can)

Rosie: Look! Pocket loves marmite so much that she sleeps with it.
Kev: Even my cat just can't get enough of it.

;-)

Completely Off-Topic / Nerea and I are faaaaamous!
« on: August 24, 2004, 07:35:07 am »
I subscribe to American Cosmogirl (cos its LOADS better than any of the magazines here) and they have shoutouts down the side of every page. So a while ago i decided to write one to Nerea (i didn't expect them to actually do anything with it!), and LOOK! They published it! Its on the last page of the August Cosmogirl with Reese Witherspoon on.

« on: August 05, 2004, 02:15:42 pm »
My darling Nere, i of course, had to start this thread! Its been nearly 3 years now and what a privelidge its been. Those two weeks we spent together were some of the best (and funniest)  times of my life- we're sisters, we really are. So have the BEST birthday ever- and may this year bring many more fittays (though hopefully some spanish ones), stupid jokes and even more music than we could imagine.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NEREA!

Love you to absolute pieces,

Rosie

P.S i hope the present gets there on time!

Okay, well as Nessaholics its our duty to promote White Houses (not that it looks like its going to be a flop anyway- damn that song is catchy). We can make this song from a hit to the biggest song of the summer! So if you leave the number/email address of your local radio station here, i will add it to the list and we'll be sure to flood their inboxes with requests! That way, you can refer to this thread when you feel a sudden urge of Nessaholicism coming on, hehe.

If your local radio station isn't playing White Houses, leave the email address here too so we can enquire about why they're not playing the greatest song of all time ;) .

 This week's station-

Okay, since this is aired accross the country we can kill two birds with one stone by voting HERE.

Vote for "White Houses" each day on:
http://www.ratethemusic.com/cdmostrequested/

Vanessa is already doing well, lets help her do better! #1!

Okay, i don't normally post things like this but this one is too classic not to.

1. Go to Google
2. Type in Weapons of Mass Destruction.
3. Hit 'I'm feeling lucky'.
4. See what happens!

Completely Off-Topic / Radio 1's 10 Hour Takeover
« on: April 12, 2004, 02:57:33 am »
Okay, calling all UK Nessaholics. Today, as i'm sure you know, is Radio 1's 10 hour takeover- where you request songs and they play them. They are playing such obscure songs that i think it will be fairly easy to get 1000 Miles played if enough of us request it:

so text 81199 and say why you want it and we might actually get it played!

Rosie

P.S i know this probably should've gone in the Vanessa section but i thought more people would be likely to see it here.

Completely Off-Topic / My mum is faaamous
« on: March 19, 2004, 07:49:39 am »
Remember when you all helped me vote for my mum in that poll? She came THIRD! GO US! So this is article, jess told me i had to post, because its my mum!! Its a double page spread on her and it says she's a 'one woman revolution'- bwahahah not likely *chuckles*. But yeah, she even says at the beginning how i got all of you to vote for her- but it may be too small to read (sorry its bad quality!):

P.S ignore that LAME quote at the bottom- she did not say that!

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Unicorn Necklace
« on: February 27, 2004, 06:50:44 am »
Okay, i was looking through my old Vogue's the other day- and found this! Now if that necklace isn't almost identical to Nessa's unicorn i don't know what is! I've looked up the person who made it (Jacey Withers) but its from a few seasons ago so i doubt its available anymore. Just wanted to let you know!

P.S sorry its so craply cut out! And ignore the 'spy' part, thats the name of the article it was in.

Completely Off-Topic / Happy Birthday Rachel!
« on: January 31, 2004, 02:46:16 am »
Well my darling Hoe, i know you barely come here anymore- but this thread is for the principle of the thing! Its been 2 years since our obsession started with Vanessa, i remember hoping she would come over around your birthday- and then last year she did, and it was amazing.

So for one of the original UK EuroNESSAholics, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

love you lots,

Rosie

Completely Off-Topic / English Snow, Thunder, Lightning and top up fees
« on: January 28, 2004, 10:22:22 am »
WOOOOAH! There was a massive flash and i thought someone was taking a picture through my window, and then there was the loudest rumble of thunder- and then it started SNOWING! Its snowed at least 2 inches in only half an hour! ITS AMAZING!! My mum has been in London all day and she says its like the apocalypse. Everything here is orange and weird!!

I know there is a thread on snow but this is TOO special to go on the 5th page of a thread! We never ever ever get snow, my dad said it was "Collectors weather" LMAO. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

and top up fees won, views!? I can't take a gap year now! i was planning on going to America!

EDIT: Piiics!

Me trying not to be hit by a snowball from my brother! (Yes those are my dad's shoes that i'm wearing which make me bear a scary resemblance to Santa)

Me looking doubtful at the 'snowman' me and my brother just attempted, at one point we decided it was going to be a snowbunny, can ya tell? No.

Me and Patrick detroying our 'snowman'

Me and my brother fighting with the remains of the much abused 'snowman'.

Completely Off-Topic / Could you help me out?
« on: January 13, 2004, 10:50:40 am »
Right well, i know how supportive the Nessaholics are in voting for things and helping people win things- well now i need help!

My mum has been voted one of the 25 most influencial people in the publishing/book business in the last 25 years- and now you can vote online to get whoever you want to #1. My mum works more with libraries than publishing and we don't want her to come last (those names up with her are BIG ones) sooooo- we need to get my mum to a decent position!! Ooh yeah, she is called Miranda McKearney and there is a dinky little picture of her if you scroll down the page, so two benefits here:

a) i will love you forever
b) you get to 'ooh' and 'ahh' at my mum and how she supposedly looks like me (granted its not the best of pictures!)

http://www.publishingnews.co.uk/pn/pno_silver25.asp

Thankyou SO much!!

Rosie :)
