Completely Off-Topic / Your Most Desirable City to Relocate To (In America)
« on: November 29, 2004, 01:05:13 am »
I don't know if any of you have ever run across Sperling's Best Places website:  http://www.bestplaces.net

It's a great website where you can obtain neighborhood profiles by zipcode and compare cities as well (they only feature American cities and metropolitan areas).

There's a nifty little city chooser which tells you what would be your top 30 cities to live in within the United States, based on your importance of certain criteria (such as school, arts, traffic, crime, affordable housing, climate, jobs, etc.).

Try it yourself and share your results... and also say if the results you get agree with how you actually feel:

http://www.bestplaces.net/fybp

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are my top 10 metropolitan areas according to the website based on selection criteria I entered:

1  San Francisco, CA
2  Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA
3  Long Island, NY
4  Boston, MA-NH-ME
5  San Diego, CA
6  Orange County, CA
7  San Jose, CA
8  Seattle-Bellevue-Everett, WA
9  Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV
10  Monmouth-Ocean, NJ

Not surprisingly, 5 of the 10 areas are in CA!  :D  I'd personally have put Orange County first, Los Angeles second and San Diego third.

Some of you may recall that "A Thousand Miles" spent a total of 9 non-consecutive weeks at #1 on American Top 20 (Adult Contemporary version) with Casey Kasem.

I used to transcribe the stories Casey Kasem read on the countdown when the song was #1 on the official board for both the Top 40 and AC shows.  Unfortunately I never saved the links for AT40, but as a service to fans, I am reprinting my original posts from the AC countdown below.

Completely Off-Topic / The Schoolteacher's Test
« on: April 02, 2003, 01:02:34 am »
The following short quiz consists of 4 questions and tells whether
you are qualified to be a "professional".  Scroll down for each
answer.

The questions are not that difficult.

1. How do you put a giraffe into a refrigerator?

The correct answer is: Open the refrigerator, put in the giraffe
and close the door. This question tests whether you tend to do simple
things in an overly complicated way.

2. How do you put an elephant into a refrigerator?

Wrong Answer: Open the refrigerator, put in the elephant and close
 the refrigerator.

Correct Answer:  Open the refrigerator, take out the giraffe,
put in the elephant and close the door. This tests your ability to think through the repercussions of your actions.

3. The Lion King is hosting an animal conference.  All the
animals attend except one. Which animal does not attend?

Correct Answer: The Elephant. The Elephant is in the
refrigerator.  This tests your memory. OK, even if you did not answer the first three questions correctly, you still have one more chance to show your abilities.

4. There is a river you must cross. But it is inhabited by crocodiles.
How do you manage it?

Correct Answer: You swim across. All the Crocodiles are
attending the Animal Meeting. This tests whether you learn quickly from your mistakes.

According to Andersen Consulting Worldwide, around 90% of the
professionals they tested got all questions wrong.   But many preschoolers got several correct answers.  Anderson Consulting says this conclusively disproves the theory that most professionals have the brains of a four year old.

Other Musicians / Madonna

For those who have heard it already, what do you think of "American Life" by Madonna?

KIIS-FM (Los Angeles, CA) premiered it today on the radio, and it sure is getting a lot of airplay--at least once every hour!

Welcome to the eleventh weekly Radio & Records national airplay chart report for 2003... and the first report on Nessaholics.com!  This chart reflects the music week ended Friday, March 21, 2003.

INTRODUCTION:

This is the first week that this report is being featured on the Nessaholics.com forum instead of the official Vanessa Carlton forum.  It will be posted here on a pilot basis, and if there is sufficient readership and interest to support it, I will make it a regular feature.

As with the original weekly report, the scope will be limited to Adult Contemporary (AC), Hot AC, and CHR/Pop.  Special attention will be given to charted songs by Vanessa Carlton, as well as on "Big Yellow Taxi" by Counting Crows featuring her.  In addition, highlights of each format will also be provided.

"A Thousand Miles" is still going strong on AC, and continues to be high on the recurrents list on Hot AC.  Both "Ordinary Day" and "Pretty Baby" are not being charted anywhere.  "Big Yellow Taxi" enters the top 10 on Hot AC and is slowly inching up the CHR/Pop chart.

STATION PLAYLISTS

The Mediabase 24/7 radio station playlists used to compile the chart data is located at

You can use this link to find out what your favorite radio station has been playing in the past week.

"A THOUSAND MILES" UPDATE:

On AC, the song remains at #6 with 1982 plays (2005 plays last week), and is the song that has been on the survey longer than any other.  The song first entered the AC Chart on April 26, 2002 at #30, then took a one week hiatus, and re-entered the chart on May 10, 2002 all the way up at #23.  In all, it spent 9 non-consecutive weeks at #1, and finished at #12 on the 2002 year-end survey.  11 months after first appearing on the AC Chart, the song is still in the top 10.  Can she make a full year?  With your support she can.  All we need to do is to have an increase in airplay--even if it's just for a week--then the downgrading to recurrent status will be further postponed.  If you listen to AC, please call your station and request it more.

On Hot AC, the song is in the list of "Most Played Recurrents" at 1370 plays (1425 plays last week).

On CHR/Pop, there is no activity to report.

"BIG YELLOW TAXI" UPDATE:

On AC, there is no activity to report.

On Hot AC, the song rises 3 notches to #9, at 2155 plays (#12 with 1996 plays last week).

On CHR/Pop, the song rises 2 notches to #44, at 1140 plays (#46 with 854 plays last week).

CHART HIGHLIGHTS:

AC Chart:

Note to readers--this is NOT the AC chart that is used on American Top 20 with Casey Kasem.

The #1 song for the seventh week in a row is "Landslide" by the Dixie Chicks at 2573 plays (2774 plays last week).  In terms of airplay only, the biggest mover is "Peacekeeper" by Fleetwood Mac, which enters the survey at #23 (+392 plays to 436).  In terms of rank, the biggest mover is "Come With Me" by Phil Collins, which rises 3 notches to #19.

Hot AC Chart:

The #1 song for the sixth week in a row is "I'm With You" by Avril Lavigne at 3567 plays (3537 plays last week).  In terms of airplay only, the biggest mover is "Peacekeeper" by Fleetwood Mac, which enters the survey at #31 (+334 plays to 414).  In terms of rank, the biggest mover is tied with two songs, which rise 4 notches to their respective positions:  "Feel" by Robbie Williams at #34, and "Innocence" by Hootie & The Blowfish at #28.

CHR/Pop Chart:

The #1 song for the fourth week in a row is "All I Have" by Jennifer Lopez f/LL Cool J at 8009 plays (8580 plays last week).  In terms of airplay and rank, the biggest mover is "Rock Your Body" by Justin Timberlake, which rises 14 notches to #20 (+1374 plays to 2910).

CLOSING COMMENTS:

What do you think of this report?  Is it a feature you would like to see here on a regular basis, or would you rather not see it here?

Thanks for those who supported it in the past on the official board.

Introduce Yourself / Hello, I'm Daniel!
« on: March 10, 2003, 11:55:06 pm »
Hello everyone, it's me, Daniel.  I'm from the greater Vancouver, BC, Canada area, and I'm 25.  I turn 26 on May 17, which happens to be the day that KIIS-FM is holding Wango Tango at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA   :)   I love Vanessa Carlton (who here doesn't?), and have been a fan since February 2002.

I have had the pleasure of meeting some of the southern California Nessaholics... namely Holly (kiisnsync), Lani (EvergreenDanish), Manda (NESSArocks), Joe (Wonkies), John (jjthefourth), Michelle (xxpsychopathicfreakxx), and Desiree (DizzzaDez).  Hopefully I'll get to meet more of you in the future  :)

Yep, you read correctly.... Las Ketchup!  Any guesses as to what their current hit is?

"The Ketchup Song!"

I've heard this play on KIIS-FM Los Angeles since Thursday night of last week.  Has anyone else heard it, and if so, what do you think of it?
