My employer likes to give you as little information as possible in the shortest amount of time as possible when it comes to sending you to some strange place. Basically two days ago my higher ups said to me, "Oh yeah, you're going to California for a month, leaving this coming Monday." I'm going to be (from my understanding) near the Los Angeles area, and so that I don't get bored out of my mind, if anyone from that area can give me ideas to keep entertained, that'd be greatly appreciated!

Completely Off-Topic / We're rocking Washington state!
« on: February 07, 2005, 12:59:49 pm »
For all that live in the freezing and rainy state of Washington, me and my friends here at Ft. Lewis are beginning to play around musically in our own little groups. There are two right now, First off being my own little venture, a band that's starting mainly Olympia based called "Trying to Think" (Took Dallis 4 weeks to think of that........) and second is my drummer's other project, already well known through Tacoma, their target city, named Tympanum.  If you're around and you love interesting music, you should look around for us, if given the option, we like to play shows that require no cover to get in and as much as we try to get all ages it doesn't work sometimes, so 21+ happens alot. But we'll have the websites up soon, with mp3's and all, so I'll post them up once their active. Until then, everyone rock on!

Completely Off-Topic / Steavis' "Work sucks!" thread
« on: December 16, 2004, 12:23:01 pm »
I figured it's about time someone made something where they can rant and rave on and on about how much they hate their job or school, whatever takes your day. I mean I am officially "owned" by the government and I go to work and get out of work when it's dark outside, sunlight is like a myth at this point and the emergency room is getting low on active duty soldiers I hear, meaning they could put me in there at any minute.............and then my social life would be over

Completely Off-Topic / Donate blood for the soldiers!
« on: December 02, 2004, 02:34:11 pm »
Ok, now usually I don't post any kind of requests or anything, but one thing stands constant in a time of war and that is that the blood banks are constantly being called upon to treat our wounded along with countrymen of the country we're at war with.
Everyone wants to do something to help, and if that's the case with yourself than go and donate blood; even if it doesn't go to our troops fighting in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, it may go to someone in your very own town who has had an accident, it's something almost all of us can do; I did it myself, and though the idea of a 16 gauge needle isn't my thing, I'll likely do it again as soon as I can.
Ok, all I needed, thanks all!

An edit to disclaim that I didn't mean everyone here was american............and besides, I'd give blood for a soldier of any nation, even if it looks different, they have on the same uniform as me

Completely Off-Topic / computer brains come here
« on: November 23, 2004, 06:25:05 am »
Ok, I'm in a hospital run by the army, I work here, and everything worked fine with AIM express until I got back from Japan, then all of a sudden it started saying that an error occured when I tried to log in and I haven't been able to get on since, and I'm not the most knowledgeable individuals when it comes to the inner workings of computers, but if any of you have any ideas, let me know, because this job is boring and I need something to do every now and then

In my position, I am faced with the aspect of going to a combat zone and there is one thing that really really disturbs me, has actually kept me from sleeping a couple nights. Basically I know that it is my job to make sure the wounded live to go to the next step in medical care from the front lines, that includes all wounded, even if they're wounded to the point where they'd personally rather I let them die. If someone lost so much of their self, as in arms, legs, etc. or ended up in a coma or in a state where there was no possibility of recovery, knowing soldiers I know some of them would rather be killed in such an accident than to live in a state like that, because of what seeing someone like that does to their families........it's my JOB to assure that EVERY wounded I see goes to the next line of help, but is there a line where you step back and let them go beyond or do you save their life at the cost of their life? Unfortunately there are no advance directives in combat situations. Take the Metallica song "One," it's a surprisingly realistic situation, and is a condition I personally wouldn't want anyone like me pulling myself out of.  All I want to know is if you guys think it is ok to let some that are that hurt just go, or if you'd do all you could to keep them alive, aware of what "life" may await them; I need some kind of outside thought on this issue, figured this'd be a good place to get it

• Pope decries 'grave crisis' of modern values

This was on the news thing on Yahoo!.com

Now I know the pope is old and everything, but did it really take him this long to figure that out?

Entertainment - Movies / TV / Books / A Perfect Circle - Imagine
« on: November 12, 2004, 01:38:36 pm »
For all fans of either A Perfect Circle or John Lennon, check out A Perfect Circles version of the John Lennon classic "Imagine" on Launch.com, you can find it in the music videos section. I'm a huge John Lennon fan, and a moderate A Perfect Circle fan but this is probably the best cover song I've ever heard, because they altered it to fit their sound, but they didn't kill the song totally, a great song either way, a great message at that, but if you've all got nothing to do, go check it out

Other Musicians / Rilo Kiley
« on: December 02, 2003, 10:25:48 am »
This one is interesting, girls should love it. Anyhow you have a what seems to be talented band and a vocalist is a woman that seems to have excellent vocal abilities. Some songs are weird, some are soft, it's just music that is based upon personal taste, try it out, you might like it

Other Musicians / Sugarcult
« on: November 15, 2003, 01:42:21 am »
A friend of mine loves this band, she told me to listen to them, so I did, and I have to admit, it's one of the few modern acts to catch my interest. I didn't see them mentioned here but I seriously think they're worth a listen. "Hate Every Beautiful Day" and "How Does It Feel" are really good songs in my opinion, and the song "Super Hyperspastic" is good too, but a little weird for my tastes...........anyhow, all interested, go have a listen, see you later!

Completely Off-Topic / question in regards to giving blood
« on: October 31, 2003, 08:06:26 pm »
Ok, I spent the last three days at MEPS, a facility run by the Armed Services, which is intended on assuring that the people going into the different branches of the military are nice and healthy. Well I had to give a blood sample; I've always been horrendously afraid of shots, having only had about one or two in my life and I was terrified of this one, I got it out of the way somehow but now my arm hurts really bad, and the blood was taken about 15 hours ago. Kind of ironic that I have to ask this, my new position in the army is health care specialist, but for now I'm clueless and want to know from someone with experience, is this large amount of hurting normal?

Completely Off-Topic / going on a "vacation"
« on: October 22, 2003, 10:56:09 am »
Alright everyone, I know I haven't posted in probably a couple months, been rather busy. A time longer than that might soon come, because I'm joining the Army, and will be leaving home this January, for I don't know how long and where I'll end up I still don't know; based upon a test I took, it seems every job within the structure of the army is available to me, so my prime job choices within the army are military intelligence work, being a field doctor, and my personal favorite, photography
I just kind of wanted to take this opportunity to actually announce the fact that I will soon be gone, and might not return any time soon. I've had fun in your board here, but life calls, so I've got to go and see what the hell it's trying to tell me. I wish you all the best, farewell!

Steven

Completely Off-Topic / If you're looking for easy laughs
« on: July 11, 2003, 08:51:08 pm »
I've been sent by a friend a couple of little online movie things, maybe a max of a minute each that play through a window, no download needed. They're pretty funny if you know anything regarding the subject of which they're mocking.
Anyhow, this one deals with the constant struggles of a young man trying to find his love.

This one deals with the obsession with Yugioh and Pokemon cards

Hope you all enjoy it. It got me laughing
