Entertainment - Movies / TV / Books / Olympics - Athens 2004
« on: August 14, 2004, 03:22:22 pm »
Moderators, I swear I looked in the other folders where I imagine something like the Olympics should be mentioned.

Anyway, am I the only one out here who loves it when the Olympics come around?  I always make sure I'm home to watch the opening and closing ceremonies.  I love the pageantry and symbolism of the games.  I love watching the lighting of the caldron.  And I love learning of the existence of teeny, tiny nations in the world because they’ve sent an athlete to the Olympics (i.e. Vanuatu, Nauru, Kiribati, Seychelles, Lesotho, Sao Tome and Principe, Dominica - which is not to be confused with the Dominican Republic)

yay, I got to use the olympic smilies  :bday:

and yay for countries that are new to me!

Entertainment - Movies / TV / Books / Ghostwriter

Remember this show???  It was adorable.  Whatever happened to these kids?  Anyone have a favorite ghostwriter team member?   :D

The actress who played Lenni always looked like a mini Tracey Ullman to me.  Anyone else agree with me?  Tracey could have played her long lost mother.

Other Musicians / Jimmy Ray

 Does anyone remember this guy?

"Are you Jimmy Ray?
Who wants to know?
Are you Faye Wray?
Who wants to know?"

I remember thinking Behold the one-hit wonder...that is, if you consider that single of his a hit.  He had greaser hair and two girls dancing behind him whenever he'd play his guitar on late night talk shows.

Does the thought of this guy amuse anyone else?

I wonder whatever happened to him...

Creative Endeavors / I wrote a poem about kiisnsync's tortoise

Ode to a Tortoise

Oh Marlin, you are so large and slow
If I were a TV producer, I would have cast you in the current Geico Auto
Insurance commercial, and not that other silly tortoise who got the
If I were a rabbit, I would not run into you, like the rabbit in the Geico
Auto Insurance commercial -- instead, I would hop around you and
sell insurance in a different manner
If I were a pet store owner, I'd put you by the register so we could talk
whilst I rang up customers buying gravel and plastic divers for
their fish tank at home
If I were a webmaster, I would take a picture of you with a parachute
attached to your shell, in front of a blue background with little
construction paper cutouts of clouds, for my webpage about
recreational activities for pets
If I were a Floridian, I would dress you in a Marlins jersey and take you to
the stadium with me to enjoy a World Series game where I would hold
you up in the air during the seventh inning stretch so you could get on
the jumbo-TRON and inspire other Marlins fans to cheer louder
If I were a professional party planner, I would rent out Lotus for the night
and use all of my connections in the business to invite celebrities to a
costume party held in your honor where I would dress you up as a
medieval friar and make sure your picture got into the society pages
of Vogue magazine
If I were a restaurateur or deli owner I would name a dish after you and
introduce you to Senor Swanky because he needs to take a picture
with you for his restaurant chain
Oh, Marlin. You're the best tortoise I've never had.

Polls / Is this bear angry or sad? We want your opinion!
« on: October 12, 2003, 11:30:51 am »
Someone in this forum owns this bear.  This person claims it is a bipolar bear.  This person insists that the bear looks sad all of the time, when in my opinion it looks pretty angry.  We want to settle this matter once and for all.  Angry bear or sad bear?

Hi, I'm Fresh Lettuce and I love Vanessa "like a fat kid love cake."  8)

Aside:  50 puts it so eloquently

I'm an east coast student going to school in New Amsterdam who likes to make casual conversation in the check out line at the local grocery store.  Just wink at me if you see me examining the quality of the fruit at the fruit bin.  I might wink back.
