Creative Endeavors / A poem I wrote
« on: January 04, 2007, 09:15:28 pm »
I don't have a title, it's really short, and it's my first poem. Hurray. haha

Between the time of wake and sleep
My mind then finds a further deep
Questions, answers, split in two
To form same dreams; nothing new

I want to ask, I want to find
But nothing bonds a splitting mind
In times when pain becomes my peace
And love can form my sole release
From space that holds my mind in two

Still nothing’s more, nothing’s new

Over and over pictures play
Hope for love, for love to stay
To stay away the pain in mind
The space that hold that world behind

Waves of hope and tides of joy
Flood my heart each night and boy, oh boy
To reach that day when dreams are true
When minds are one and something’s new

Creative Endeavors / My Compositions
« on: December 31, 2006, 12:12:36 pm »
So I've been writing music for almost four years now. The first three years I spent learning how to play piano, which resulted in just writing piano compositions that I admit are kind of cheesy, new age stuff. This year I started writing instrumentational works with multiple instruments in varying styles and settings using Finale 2007 and/or my digital piano. I just made an xanga site to host some of these pieces. If you want to hear them, go here http://www.xanga.com/TBComposer and click on "audio" at the top right of the page and select a song. Since most of you probably own more pop music than anything, I'm not sure how you'll like these. You might like Trick or Treat and "no title yet" but all of them are more classical/contemporary instrumental pieces. I'm majoring in music composition next year hopefully at University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. I have an interview with their composition board Jan. 13. yikes!

Hope you like them

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Where the Streets Have No Name
« on: December 03, 2006, 03:09:06 pm »
This was my favorite of Nessa's covers, but I don't have the mp3 anymore. Does anyone mind e-mailing me the file if they have it?

Another question about this song: Did anyone ever try to transcribe the piano for this? It's pretty awesome but would take me forever to try and figure out.

Other Musicians / Erin Bode
« on: August 10, 2006, 07:24:58 am »
This girl probably has the most amazing voice I've ever heard. She grew up in St. Louis (my hometown! woo) and she gigs all over the same city. She's also been featured on The Early Show and the Today Show. Her new album Over and Over is soo good. It's very jazzy and Norah Jones esque. I love the first track, Holiday. Listen to this song here http://www.erinbode.com/releases.html
Scroll down to the track listings and click the mp3 for Holiday. You will not be dissapointed

You can buy the album at any music/book store and websites like Amazon.

Creative Endeavors / Listen to my Brass Chorale!
« on: July 02, 2006, 07:40:19 am »
So one of my band directors asked me to write a brass chorale for our brass line in my school's marching band. We'd use it in warm ups to help tune and kind of show off our sound at competition. My brass line is huge, about 70 people of just brass players. So you can imagine the amount of sound we crank out. haha. So anyways, this is what I wrote, tell me what you think.

For those of you who don't know... a chorale is a slow song with a lot of moving lines and nice sounding chords.

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Contacting Vanessa...
« on: June 23, 2006, 11:46:06 pm »
So I've been out of the loop with these boards for some time now. I'm excited for Vanessa's third album, glad to hear it's actually in the works. Anyways, I've recently been wanting to write to Vanessa, never having the chance before, and I figured she's less busy answering fan mail now. I know there used to be an address circulating around to send her letters and things, but I have no idea what it is, or if it's changed. Anyone have any ideas? haha. Thanks

Creative Endeavors / Defying Gravity
« on: October 09, 2005, 02:29:02 pm »
So I got the Wicked vocal/piano book (I'm seeing it live Nov. 23! woo). It has the piano accompaniment with the vocal line.. so it's kind of hard.. haha. But I'm trying! This is what I've gotten so far. It's really bad, I even skip a part and don't finish a phrase, but whatever.

Completely Off-Topic / Ipod Photo Owners...
« on: August 17, 2005, 07:32:34 am »
I have a question.

You know how when you play songs the "album art" of that song shows up next to the title of what you're currently playing on your Ipod. Well, I've noticed that album art only appears next to the songs I've bought off Itunes (which isn't that much if you compare it to the amount of CDs I have). So, I was wondering if it is possible to somehow add photos to songs you haven't bought off Itunes. Because none of the CDs I have on my Ipod show art work except for the ones I've bought off of Itunes so... yeah

Hopefully at least one of you has an Ipod photo..

I was going to re-scan this because there's some smudges and stuff I didn't notice but my scanner quit working, lol, so oh well.

Creative Endeavors / Consolation

This is my other piece I'm play at a piano competition. This one doesn't sound hard, but it is for me.  It took me forever to get my right hand to balance with my left, and my right still sometimes overpowers, but I try. haha.

I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do since it calls for Allegretto, con molto rubato. Basically I can do whatever I want with the tempos so I've been trying some different stuff. That's probably the hardest part for me..
