Entertainment - Movies / TV / Books / Breaking Bad
« on: June 02, 2009, 01:30:09 pm »
Anyone watch this show?  I got into it about a month ago, and I think it's great.  I haven't seen early season two or any of season one, but it's a really crazy awesome show!  The season finale was this past Sunday and it was a really frustrating cliffhanger.

Creative Endeavors / No title yet, lyrics.
« on: April 02, 2009, 03:20:51 pm »
And maybe my shell's dissolved,
But that doesn't mean that I've evolved
Into something better
We've been traveling like wolves
And I see on your face
All the times we've pushed and pulled
Open doors are shacks that we once raided
Skeletons of where we sat and waited

Since I've started drinking,
I've seen you started thinking
Maybe I've let you down,
You don't belong on this battleground
But I'll tell you, when you let down your guard, baby,
I'll be around

And maybe you are desire
But that doesn't mean that you'll inspire
Anything too good
All these days I've been dying
Your lips won't let mine say,
"Baby, you know that I've been trying"
These clouds are just dreams forged while we were sleeping
The gray ones are dreams we're failing to be keeping

Since I've started drinking,
I've seen you started thinking
Maybe I've let you down,
You don't belong on this battleground
Even if you're tired of me, baby,
I'll be around

I wish you had a sister
She'd say "Listen, mister,
You love that girl like she's your last,
And I don't care what's in your past,
You hold that girl and don't let go,
Cause she'll love you more than you will ever know"

And I'm sorry I've been shaky
I think we both know our hearts are breaking
Just don't go forsaking me
I'll clear off this battle ground
We can go hunting, or just lie down
I love you even more when the pack is not around

Because the lives we led on paper
Bled out onto the floor
And I know that I'll feel safer
When you take away my breath once more

Since I've started drinking
I've seen you started thinking
Maybe I've let you down,
You don't belong on this battleground
So, let's just head home, you know
That I'll be around

Creative Endeavors / Open Water (Power Chord Academy 2008)
« on: August 05, 2008, 02:45:26 pm »
I wrote the lyrics and about half of the melody.  I'm one of the co-lead singers in it, starting at the second part of the first verse, and our male keyboardist sings backup in the chorus.

I'd really appreciate it if you guys would check it out and give some feedback.

And in advance, yeah, I know I hit a really sour note in the bridge =/

Completely Off-Topic / Any piano players who can play by ear?
« on: May 03, 2008, 08:00:59 am »
I was wondering if anyone could create sheets for a song that I'm hoping to learn.  I'm terrible when it comes to playing by ear, but this song sounds like it would be easy for someone who has that ability.

Thanks to anyone who will attempt it.

Creative Endeavors / In These Times
« on: October 14, 2007, 06:45:50 pm »
i'd say just about everyone can relate to this.  i felt nostalgic, but in a bad and longing way today and came up with this.

The dull throb
Of some preexisting life
Born inside my memories
Its presence fills me up, drains me
I give nothing back

The absence
Of a hand once held
With fondest memories
Eyes are paths for dreams to take
That gave nothing back

In these times
We hope to forget
In these times
We fear the regret

The still life
Still exists with vivacity
Unceasing so passionately
Fruitless desires for all that's insatiable
Will give nothing back

In these times
What's weak stands strong
In these times
Our inability to move along

With the sweetest submission
I pay no heed to what was ours
Easier to glance the other way
I'll succumb to my frailty
All vanishes in the morning's
revealing light
But I can't blame my mentality

The letdown
Always reminds me where I am
I cannot stand in yesterday
Yearning for another taste because
I'll get nothing back

In these times
We want more than closure
In these times
We wish that it was never over

In these times
We cling to what is lost
In these times
We deny all these thoughts.

Vanessa Songs / Lyrics / Sheet Music / Song Credits?
« on: October 10, 2007, 01:59:42 pm »
I didn't find any list of who wrote or performed on the tracks of H&T.  Does anyone know if an official list exists?  I looked on her official site and in the liner notes, but it only gave the credits relating to who produced each song.

Completely Off-Topic / Will someone transcribe some songs please?
« on: September 09, 2007, 12:16:28 pm »
There are a few songs where I've looked for sheet music, but none officially exists.  There have been a few links on a forum for sheet music, but they've all expired, and I'm still waiting to be approved on that forum.

So, I was wondering if anyone here can transcribe some songs and make sheet music for them.  It's piano.

If yes, thanks a bunch.
If not, that's alright.

Talk to me on AIM at "KILLIN swann" and i'll send you the songs.

Creative Endeavors / Something I wrote during SAT prep today lol
« on: September 06, 2007, 02:19:30 pm »
this is the first thing i've ever written without stopping to think, I'm really happy with it because, whether or not it makes sense to anyone else here, it really paints a picture of what I'm making of life right now in general.

I really don't care if you don't like it, if you wanna say it sucks go ahead.  I will accept anything anyone has to say, though.

But you don't ever know
The intensity
The insanity
Sweeps over me
In a canopy of dreariness
Weary and pissed off

Is it so perverse?
Is it really that bad?
In the grand scheme
What does it matter anyway?

But you always know
You never would
Top my list
Invariably
Can't we skip all the damn details?
You can't articulate

Is it so perverse?
Is it really that bad?
In the grand scheme
What does it matter anyway?

We move across land
Drown in oceans
of our own deepest fears
Words form in the shape
of my hesitence
I can't articulate
I can't, I can't

Is it so perverse?
Is it really that bad?
In the grand scheme
What does it matter anyway?

What happens outside the window
is none of our concern
You smile at me so lovely
I swear
You're melting glaciers with that stare
Pick up falling leaves
and put them in my hair

Just stop
I can't.

Completely Off-Topic / School dress codes
« on: August 13, 2007, 09:38:26 pm »
Okay, does anyone else have ridiculous school dress codes?  Not uniforms, but dress codes.

This year, it's being enforced that girls must wear collared or crew-neck shirts only (NO boatnecks, either).  If collarbone is exposed, you will be "written up".

If you wear a collared shirt, it can only be unbuttoned two buttons at most.

All shirts must cover your beltloops or a belt must be worn.  If the lenght of your t-shirt goes past your wrists, you have to tuck in your shirt.

Shorts must be 4 inches above the knee.  Dresss and skirts must be 2 inches above the knee.

No sunglasses on campus, including the parking lot (I don't know how they would be able to know if we wore sunglasses driving to school, which we should to protect our eyes anyway.)

No hats, bandanas, or "head paraphinalia (sp?)."

It's only the fourth year that our school has existed and I think our dress code is getting out of control.  I really think we should just get uniforms because it's so much easier for everybody, and it's a lot cheaper.  That way kids don't have to have a separate "school wardrobe" and "weekend wardrobe."

Anyone else have problems like this?

Other Musicians / Metric
« on: August 06, 2007, 02:42:08 pm »
They're an underground band from Toronto, fronted by a female vocalist.  I usually don't like indie/underground bands, but there is something that i really like about Metric.  The lead singer, Emily Haines, seems to show off a pretty good vocal range.  She sings pretty low for a woman in some songs.
They have had 3 albums, Grow Up and Blow Away, Old World Underground Where are You Now?, and Live it Out, that have been released, all of which are available on iTunes.  Also, there is an early ep called Static Anonymity.

Songs that you should definitely check out by them:  "Combat Baby," "Dead Disco," "The Twist," "Monster Hospital," and "Soft Rock Star."  There are two versions of "Soft Rock Star," one is really good, the other is pretty terrible, but the more popular of the two versions is the better sounding one.

Completely Off-Topic / Power Chord Academy
« on: July 08, 2007, 12:14:41 pm »
anyone ever heard of this?  it's for people ages 13-18, and it's a rock band camp.  you are placed in a band of about 6 people based on your musical experience, preference, what instrument(s) you play, etc.  I'm going to PCA in san francisco next week, it starts on the 15th.  last year i went to new york for PCA and that was my first time.  i am so nervous, but last time i was under enough pressure to write a pretty decent song. :)

Creative Endeavors / my band's song
« on: July 31, 2006, 12:49:07 pm »
Ok well it isn't exactly my band. I went to a camp in New York  two weeks ago called Power Chord Academy.  It's a rock band camp where you are placed in a band according to your age, level of experience, and musical taste.  This is the song that my band, HumanSound did.  The instrumental part just evolved from different jam sessions, and the lyrics I wrote.  We had a day and a half to get a song down and record it and here it is, i hope that the link works and that the song plays for whoever wants to hear it.  And I hope you like it. http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=C7A783BD294DD0BB

ps. band members are:
Jason- lead guitar
Zach- rhythm guitar
Nick- drums
James- bass
Brianna- keyboard
Ky (me)- vocals

Creative Endeavors / My cover songs on my CD
« on: July 01, 2005, 07:53:19 pm »
Some of the songs I recorded at the studio.  These are the unmastered versions of 4 out of 9 of the songs I recorded.  They'll be mixed sometime later this month, and I'll put those up if anyone likes these.  I'd really appreciate feedback, don't be afraid to say they suck.  They're all cover songs.
