General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Recognition for Carousel or ROTR
« on: August 10, 2011, 08:40:55 am »
A Facebook memorial page was started relating to people who died that had gone to my high school, and I thought it was neat that somebody posted a link to the Carousel video and said they thought it would be a good song to remember their lost friends and classmates. It was a girl who posted the video and she mentioned that she heard it on the Today Show. I thought that was nice, and the person who started the FB page commented that it was a beautiful and perfect song.  :)

PS - Can't wait for VC's new album. Love the new songs!!!! Especially Carousel

Other Musicians / Kings of Leon!!!!
« on: March 13, 2009, 03:59:06 pm »
I feel like a fangirl just now hearing of them since they've been around for a number of years now (more popular in England), but they are so freaking good. I heard 'Sex On Fire' on the local rock station here in Boston and I had to look them up. One of the best voices I have EVER heard.

And they are soooo good live. The Letterman performance of that song is flawless.

Creative Endeavors / New Song (demo/draft) Collaboration with Jen XLovely
« on: January 21, 2009, 03:25:35 pm »
So Jen sent me lyrics she wanted me to put to music. She can post the lyrics if she wants, but I will just post the music in case she'd rather I not do that.

When I write songs I normally write the music/lyrics simultaneously. It was SO HARD for me to fit already written lyrics into this melody, but I think it turned out OK so far. The lyrics are very pretty and romantic, I tried to match that with the music at the very least.

The recording sucks because my microphone jacks on my computer broke and I had to record to my digicam and it just so happened Pete and his brother were talking/coughing and I sang very quiet cause I was embarassed. I go off pitch a few times because I was kinda improvising haha

So here it is and I'd like ideas & suggestions to make the music & lyrics maybe go better with each other. Thanks :)

You can hear the music with words titled "Hold On" or there is a "Music Only" option.

PS - That was fun and I might be willing to write music for another person with lyrics at some point. I think I'm worn out right now but maybe in a few weeks!

Creative Endeavors / new song
« on: November 08, 2008, 01:10:35 pm »
Hey everyone, I wrote a song this morning. It's not very complicated, it took like 15 min to write the whole thing, but I think it's got a neat feel to it. Here is a link if anyone is interested in listening. If I was going to compare it to a Vanessa song, I guess it's most like The Wreckage, but I've been reading Stephen King novels, that's actually where I got the idea.

I've noticed the uploaded quality is alot more muffled than my computer's version. Hmmph.

Creative Endeavors / New song & Video: Pictures & Stories
« on: July 16, 2008, 02:49:55 pm »
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1a4dvVBGsw

I couldn't think of a good title and I didn't want it to be too obvious, but anyway here are the lyrics. I find this song very fun to play and I really like some parts of it, others might need some work. I feel like it is rich sounding at least, sometimes I get bored of playing my own stuff if it's too simplistic. I'd like some constructive criticism or feedback if you have any. I know I didn't sing it perfectly, I have some issues with parts that I might change tonality or something. Not sure...

When we were young
we knew just what we'd want
when we were grown,
and all the pictures that we drew
upon our mother's walls
all got old,
all was told...

But we're not,
we're not so young.
We're not,
we're not so old
we can't be told that
dreams that we dream,
dreams that we dream...

Really now I'm feeling
back to where I started from,
and people's words can hurt,
they can burn and make you numb.
This I'm told,
this I know

But we're not,
wer'e not so young.
We're not,
we're not so old
we can't be told that
dreams that we dream,
dreams that we dream,
dreams that we dream
really do...

When we were young
we knew just what we'd want
when we were grown,
and all the pictures that we drew
upon our mother's walls
all got old,
the story's told.

But we're not,
we're not so young.
We're not,
we're not so old
we can't be told that
dreams that we dream,
dreams that we dream,
dreams that we dream
really do come true,
really do come true.

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Was this person covering V?
« on: July 04, 2008, 03:37:09 pm »
http://billboard.blogs.com/mobile_beat/2007/08/arden-kaywin-at.html

I stumbled upon this article and it mentions a particular song where the singer is compared to Vanessa. Then the person writing the review mentions his favorite song she performed was a slow song with a catchy chorus called "Twilight", and I cannot find that song credited to this artist anywhere and it shows her on a piano afterward, so I think she covered Vanessa's song and got the credit as the writer lol.

Weird.

I'm not sure how to link it because it's a video on their player, but there is a 4min interview with Vanessa on abcnews.com's entertainment section (it will be on the top right hand corner of the screen).

She seems sad!! Maybe she felt awkward about the interview, but whenever she stops talking, her face just seems really sad. Hopefully I'm wrong as this should be an exciting time for her!

Entertainment - Movies / TV / Books / Hanson on Tom Green.com
« on: August 10, 2007, 09:06:49 am »
So last night from 11-12:20ish, Hanson was on tomgreen.com for an interview, since their new album "The Walk" has just come out. Usually interviews are initially interesting and then kind of wane... Well this one started out "meh" and ended up being one of the funniest and most entertaining interviews I've ever watched- and not just because I like the band Hanson. I don't know, it was just like they were hanging out, jamming with Tom on Drums, eating fast food and talking about funny topics. I always liked Tom Green, but I didn't even know he had a new internet format talk show- it's straight out of his living room. I seriously watched it for an hour and a half almost without getting bored and laughing a bunch!

And, did you know that Hanson now is on their own record label and are one of the top selling independent artists because they actually bucked the system and did things on their own terms? Well, it's been 4 years and fans know that but just for the general public, it's a really cool factoid in my opinion :)

Creative Endeavors / Back to the Breeze (new song)
« on: July 19, 2007, 04:10:56 pm »
Well I didn't think I would, but I wrote another new song yesterday. I am still sort of learning it, so this recording isn't as polished as I'd like, but I was excited and wanted to record it.  There are mistakes in the recording too, I know, but it's ok!

Umm, it's not about anyone like my last song was. It's out of my imagination after initially thinking up the first two lines of the chorus. I promise I am quite happy in my relationship =) But since there are more lyrics in this song than the last and I admit I sort of mumble, here is what I'm saying...

Was it the day you said you'd never leave?
Was it the way I knew you would but I wouldn't believe?
You write the books and give the looks I can't conceive,
and here I am left on the stand alone to grieve.

Well, I sang the same song too many times.
I shouldn't have to pay for your crimes
anymore, anymore, anymore,
anymore, anymore, anymore.

Was it the way I gave you all that I had?
I asked for nothing, you said I should be glad
to have a man with such a plan and tender hands.
You didn't care, now I'm forced to understand

That I sang the same song too many times,
but I shouldn't have to pay for these crimes
anymore, anymore, anymore,
anymore, anymore, anymore.

No, no, no

The time has come, we've lain undone for too long.
But the words you wrote won't make a difference now, no.
You don't see, I don't care,
You won't see, I'm gone.

Cause I sang that same song too many times.
I shouldn't have had to pay for your crimes...
not anymore, not anymore, anymore,
anymore, anymore, anymore.

Was it the day you said you'd never leave
that I should have run back to the breeze?

Creative Endeavors / I wrote a song!
« on: March 25, 2007, 08:05:54 pm »
Hey guys. I know I said I don't really write music and do more of the cover thing, but I ended up writing this recently and Pete said it was good and I should share it, so here it is. It's kind of gloomy, don't be sad. :)

^^ It's about a friend of mine that is sort of changing and going slightly insane. Yeah, in case you were wondering.

Creative Endeavors / New Covers!!!
« on: January 28, 2007, 01:19:22 pm »
Well, I did a cover of Heroes and Thieves (messed up a bit at the end, and I don't know the bridge exactly). Um, also did a newer version of Twilight because I was able to rig my keyboard to my computer and can now make *slightly* better recordings. There is also a cover of a Damien Rice song called '9 Crimes' - Um, yeah, I tried; that song is really powerful when you hear him and Lisa sing it. I don't have strings or a guy to sing with! :)

I did these all today, and my I got nervous at times and my voice gets shaky, but whatever haha. I really dislike the "Just when I figured it ouuuut" part. It's really hard to make that sound good and form each note without sliding the wrong way.
