Vanessa Songs / Lyrics / Sheet Music / Double the speed, double the fun?
« on: February 27, 2008, 07:41:19 am »
Hey all. I know this will sound like I don't have anything better to. That isn't the case and that makes this even worse, but I just spent some quality time listening to vanessa's songs on double speed. Yes, I know, why would you that? I honestly don't know, I guess I was bored or something.
Anyway, I found that some songs sound actually pretty cool on double speed, especially C'est La Vie sounded really wicked :D. Other songs just become a garbled mess, but it's interesting to see which ones hold up nicely and there are actually some which get a whole new vibe when listened on double speed (Paradise, for example).
So if you're feeling bored and wonder what you could be doing, try this :p

Creative Endeavors / Signs of life
« on: August 22, 2007, 03:42:23 am »
Hey all
After months of writer's block and too little time to actually spend on writing I finally have some output again. It's not finished yet, but as soon as I have finished it I will post the entire version. Comments and feedback are very much appreciated as always. And I am interested as to whether you know what it's about. A friend of mine had no clue.

no revelations or wonders
just the plain old, plain old
follow the line another day
and trace the circle all the way
across
hopes
for another layer to unfold
sometime
sometime

those are the signs of life
those are the signs of life

they are putting
the echo on again
"wait and you will see the reward"
but these soothing words
like golden swords
still stain red
as they carve across my chest
the puzzle of belonging
pieced together as tears collide
inside
inside

those are the signs of life
those are the signs of life

how long
hold on
thinking she will guide
the Lady with the dice
reverse
mirror
and join the hunter's game
that demands to be played

Creative Endeavors / tin men and witches
« on: September 28, 2006, 01:54:52 am »
Hey people, been a long time since I posted something here. I posted some song lyrics a while back which weren't finished at that time, but they are now and I have written some new stuff. So all who are willing to read them, I invite you to do so. The old one has undergone some changes in the second half and the title has changed. It was previously known as 'Mob justice' and is now called 'Not the witches'.  Any comments are of course much appreciated.

Not the witches

hate flows like honey
so sweet, so easy
it oozes right outside his door
pitchforks and torches at the ready
mob justice it's time to do some good
the sinful living has made another victim
or so they say, or so they say

pray he won't, pray he won't
pray for absolution
down on his knees

love, such a virtue just a sin
never thought it would cause the state he's in
claiming innocence a claim that's just
but look to he left and you can see him run
to no avail, there's no escape
they will purge the disease from his veins
though he's not ill
broken bones will be his medicine

but pray he won't, pray he won't
pray for absolution
down on his knees

words and dirt, it's killing
there are ashes on his lips
it just proves that he burns so easily
how I'd wish to tell him
there's no need to breathe
cause they might be the self-proclaimed
stainless steel
how dare they say that their hands are clean
when all they need is a stone to throw

and it's the bitterness of ignorance
that haunts him, haunts him
all these people saying he's the one to blame
it's the ignorance, the ignorance
it hunts him, hunts him
no choices made, hated all the same
this mistake has already been made
witches burning, burning at the stakes

pray he won't, pray he won't
pray for absolution
down on his knees

hate flows, I know, so sweetly
time will tell it was all a lie
________________________________

And the new one (which is almost completed, the question marks show where I want some more lines)

Tin Man

Hey tin man, tin man
telling me you got yourself a heart
Oh tin man, tin man
telling me you got yourself a heart
to give

well I know your kind
you ride the high
and bury the wreckage in the morning
I know your kind
you ride the high
you alpha male you

hey tin man, silver shell man
nothing at the center
you're a vacuum
you got nothing to give

there are better ways to waste your time
I know your kind you ride the high
there are better ways to waste your time
I know your kind you ride the high

your clockwork hunger is calling you again
from under your skin
where alarm bells have started to ring
'cause you want it
you want it bad
don't you want it
you crave the empty

and that heart you are so willing to give
I bet you found it in
one of the bargain bins
at mother cocaine's

hey tin man, tin man
telling me you got yourself a heart
oh tin man, tin man
telling me you got yourself a heart
to give

just some lyrics, it's only half finished so there's more to come even though I've been pondering on it for quite a while. hope you people like it.

« on: May 03, 2005, 11:13:32 am »
hey just read a new post by Vanessa on the official forum in which she announces two shows in which she will play and I quote: "some new tunes". That is freaking exciting!!!!! Shame I won't be able to hear them.

this is a song I wrote and it is called "Time dilation" which is a special relativistic effect. it sort of means that when someone is moving really fast and looks at a clock of someone who is standing still that clock ticks slower than his own clock which is moving with him. interesting, no?
I called my song like this because it's about the feeling that you're standing still while everyone else seems to be moving ahead. I would really appreciate it if you people would tell me what you think of it.
here goes, hope you like it:

Time Dilation

I've been standing on the corner of streets
I see everyone passing by
moving fast
I can hear them grow
but I, I can't keep up
it seems I'm going nowhere
something's weighing me down
something's weighing me down

this road always looked straight to me
but I've been going round in circles for times unknown
this road always looked straight to me
I think I've lost my way
can anybody tell me where to go
I won't be left behind

I've spent too much time in this place
decay's already setting in
all around
my world is ageing
and I, I don't belong
down here in this forsaken place
trying to find a way out
trying to find a way out

this road always looked straight to me
but I've been going round in circles for times unknown
this road always looked straight to me
I think I've lost my way
can anybody tell me where to go
I won't be left behind

quicksand is filling up the memories
that these people have left behind
they come and they go
they never make it last for me
so I stumble and fall
into empty space
there’s nothing to hang on to
there’s nothing here to gain
I am knee-deep in trouble

this road always looked straight to me
but I've been going round in circles for times unknown
this road always looked straight to me
I think I've lost my way
can anybody tell me where to go
I won't be left behind

repeat chorus

I've been standing on the corner of streets
I see everyone passing by
moving fast
I can hear them grow...

Creative Endeavors / Fragility
« on: March 04, 2005, 05:05:18 am »
This is one of the first songlyrics I have written, hope you enjoy it

He was looking at the sun
and his mind was covered in shadows
his eyes were burning bright
he wished he could see
what he was meant to be

and now he's screaming
he's screaming at the dark
can't you hear him, please listen
and now he's breaking can't you see
he is shaking into pieces
into pieces

he has a heavy heart to carry
but his hands are already shattered
the weight is breaking his back
he longs to say it all
but he's not ready to fall

and now he's screaming
he's screaming at the dark
can't you hear him, please listen
and now he's breaking can't you see
he is shaking into pieces
into pieces

there are cracks on his face now
cracks in the mirror
but averted eyes do not see
and the ignorant do not hear
that he is drowning
slowly drowning
in a sea of black

and now he's screaming
he's screaming at the dark
can't you hear him, please listen
and now he's breaking can't you see
he is shaking into pieces
into pieces

he was looking at the sun
and his mind was covered in shadows

Creative Endeavors / The snowball effect
« on: January 10, 2005, 10:03:02 am »
This is my angry song, or something like it :p
it's about little differences turning into stupid fights.

The snowball effect

a little difference
goes a long way
in making words
bitter and cruel

a small push in the wrong direction
seems to freeze your affection
I wonder what crime I have comitted
and because of this oh so deadly sin
temperature is falling
falling to the ground
can you catch it before it hits the ground?

you can't hide
there's a blizzard coming
you can't hide
you started it all
you can't hide
I will find your weakness
you can't hide

you kick and scream to cause confusion
but your weak efforts just amuse me
I'm so sick of all these games you're playing
and don't you look away merely cause it hurts
can you feel the frostbite soaring
soaring through your veins
can you feel the chill clinging to your bones

chorus

sanity leaves shards of glass
since you've thrown it out the window
(you can't close it anymore)
you'd better hold on tight
spring may never come
and like a fool you've cut yourself
spilling mercury across the floor
blood, tears
here's hoping that it hurts
it's what you deserve

you can't hide
you can't hide

beneath the ice the pain is showing
and the guilt has started growing
but I won't ask to be forgiven
cause for this war you're the one to blame

chorus

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / The perfect Nessa cd
« on: January 06, 2005, 02:15:57 pm »
This has probably been discussed before, but I'm posting anyway.
If you were in charge of making a cd filled with Nessa's greatest songs which would you choose. You can pick any song, they don't have to be on BNN or Harmonium. The maximum number of songs is 12.

This is my list:

1. Ordinary Day
2. A thousand Miles
3. White Houses
4. Red Ditty  :D
5. Sway
6. Morning Sting
7. C'est la Vie
8. Meggie Sue (I'd love to hear a studio version of this one day)
9. Prince
10. Wanted
11. Last Fall
12. She floats

Creative Endeavors / Humble
« on: January 04, 2005, 11:32:10 am »
A song I wrote called Humble:

it's the space behind blue skies
that gets to me every time
and I come undone at the thought
of the stars and you
do you see the waves come crashing down
they sweep away all my words
my senses it may be too much
it's all a bit overflow

I am stricken with awe
as I spill
this warm soft perplexity
I am inches from the ground
and I feel so humble

shreds of cloud in sunset light
with the birds in its cloak
and it's all beautiful in the eyes
of the one that sees
and you play your songs on an old piano
they strike my heart with tender blows
the music of souls colliding
it pierces through every thing

chorus

lingering at the brink of wonder
words don't seem to cut it all
so what's the use of writing
but I love the way I crumble
beneath the weight of the sunrise
mirrored in your eyes
so with the sky in my head
and the world at my feet
I can't help putting it between the lines
I can't help it
I feel.....(so humble)

chorus

I am inches from the ground
and I feel so humble
