Hi all,

I'm James (also known as harmonium123 on this forum). As a huge fan of all stuff VC– I'm getting a ROTR tattoo in two weeks' time– she's informed a lot of my own work and creative practice; and I've found that her influence has been wide-reaching on my own songs.

I released my debut single on Friday and I would LOVE for you all to hear it and let me know what you think. Spotify link below (but it's also available on apple music/ itunes/ all other platforms)

Thanks in advance

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Re: New Album- Euphoria?!

Wow... Haven't been on here for a while! Can't believe the response my little old post has had  :D I'm getting sooo antsy for Liberman and having to fight very strong urges of listening to the new stuff on youtube. Is it me or is this post-production phase taking much longer than ROTR?

Strength and devotion gone without warning

just because if they came without warning surely you wouldn't know when to do what to do? Might be wrong but just my initial reaction.

I'm really hoping I like this album. Kind of apprehensive, but hoping for the best.

I'm not overly keen on electronica in general, but I really liked the way she fused it with her own style in Patience. If the album still retains her "essence" as it were, I'd be happy.

Oh thanks, that's brilliant! I heard 'Patience' and really enjoyed the new more electronic-y sound. This seems so soon after ROTR considering how long a break she had after Heroes and Thieves (not that I'm complaining at ALL :) ) Glad to hear she's back at Real World too, although a British tour certainly wouldn't go amiss  ;D

Am I just getting hysterically excited over nothing... or does this mean album number 5?! :D

Does anyone else think it's really weird that she never actually toured in England after recording the album here and the whole record having such a strong connection?

She should do a couple gigs in London when she comes over in the fall to record the new record.

I'm dying to see her!

COMPLETELY agree. I really, really want to see her!

'Patience' is beautiful!

"In other traditions, good and evil are relative to the position in which you are standing. What is good for one is evil for the other. And you play your part, not withdrawing from the world when you realize how horrible it is, but seeing that this horror is simply the foreground of a wonder: a 'mysterium tremendum et fascinans.'

"Affirmation is difficult. We always affirm with conditions. I affirm the world on condition that it gets to be the way Santa Claus told me it ought to be. But affirming it the way it is — that's the hard thing, and that is what rituals are about."

-- Joseph Campbell, The Power of Myth

Wow that was a really interesting response, thank you! I guess that horror puts the good into perspective (you can't experience the highs without the lows etc) but I've recently had a really horrible 'epiphany' if you will, about how insignificant my little existence is and I find it really hard to use what's good in my life to remind me that life is essentially a good thing.

This guys work is really interesting, I've taken a look at his other stuff! Thanks :)

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Be Not Nobody- A gift or a curse?
« on: April 09, 2012, 01:33:31 pm »
I've just been listening to my daily dose of Vanessa and cracked out some of the super old stuff (demo tape tracks) and I remembered just how much better I find the Demo tape to BNN. Don't get me wrong, I love all V but I definitely think some of the tracks of the Demo are among her best.  This got me thinking about why I love the early stuff, I think it's because of how raw and personal it is and when you listen to BNN in comparison you can see how much she'd been stifled by her label. But then again, the huge success that was brought to V by BNN has allowed her to continue on her own way and look what she's produced: ROTR. (Again some of her best stuff)

What do you guys think, was the A thousand miles era a blessing or not?
