The 'Dreams' cover is so - excuse the pun- dreamy! I'm in love!

It's really cool getting something new every month and it's getting me super excited about the next album!

Do we have any idea of when the next album is due?

And ugh... "A little  bit of rain" is so beautiful. I die.

Unbelievably amazing show tonight by Mrs. Carlton. This is my 7th time seeing her live, and I believe this was her best performance yet. She really performed tonight and got into the music in a way I hadn't seen from her before. Her singing has not sounded better. I was surprised when she said that this was the last tour they would be doing in this kind of intimate setting, and that next time she would he back with a full band. Of course I was also elated to hear that. I believe she said that right after or before she played her new song, "love is an art", and it made me wonder if she might already be anticipating bigger commercial success for her next album. She certainly seems to be at the top of her game and, given the great critical reception of Liberman, it might be safe to assume her star is on the rise again. Regardless, it's good to know there's more to come from this amazing talent.

I don't remember every song she played but a rough setlist:

Thousand miles
Carousel
Who's to Say
White Houses
Fairweather Friend
Take It Easy
Operator
Blue Pool
Nothing Where Something Used to Be
Love is an Art
The Marching Line
I don't want to be a bride
Duet with the opener and I'm kicking myself for not remembering her name because she was super talented.... they sang some song about mustangs and Porsches that sounded like a song I should have heard before (but haven't)...

Anyway it was a great show, great energy, great experience

I don't know where to post this. But what do you guys make of the comment Irv Gotti left on her instagram post about taking a break from/ using less social media? I am intrigued.

"irvgotti187@vanessacarltonactual I actually knew this was gonna happen. As I know my V too well. So please before she disappears. Please. Someone. Management. Record Label. Someone. If not her. Get in touch with me. I have ideas and business to do with my V. This is real. I need to connect with her. She will love the ideas that I have for her. Trust me. And yes. This is Irv Gotti. And yes. Heroes and Thieves came out on my Murder Inc label. And yes. I'm Vee's GANESH! And Yes. I love and respect her and think she is a genius with the pen and that piano. And Yes. I will never stop fighting for her cause of the genuine love that I have for her. So please. I know someone is reading this. DM with her IG account so I will see it please. And get to talk to her. ❤️❤️❤️"

What does he mean by "before she disappears"? Does he think this is going to be her last album or something? And are there romantic undertones here? He sounds a little desperate, which is not how V sounds at all...

I thought it meant 'before she disappears' from social media, but who knows...

Anyways, I would totally be up for a V & Irv collab!

You're probably right. I should be slapped for gossiping about v ✋

Great Pitchfork writeup. I love what he says about Vanessa's confidence in this album. She comes off as very worldly, I think. Particularly in songs "Blue Pool" where she portrays this older washed-up celebrity (that's the story, right?), "Take it Easy" and "House of Seven Swords" where she seems to be giving advice to someone younger about how the world works, and "Operator" where she portrays an older woman seducing a younger man. Even "NWSUTB" approaches a breakup with more wisdom than most songs do. If you want to call me, just do it. That's actually very adult.

We've all been calling Liberman "mature" and I was never really sure why, but this review made me think about how true that really is.

Very true, the review was really smart. I think you've really hit the nail on the head with your analysis here. It's definitely her most mature record. I think the improvements in her vocals really help here also. Her voice really sells the wisdom and one of the albums biggest strengths is how well she is able to use her voice as an instrument now.

For sure. Her voice really does "sell the wisdom" this time around. Before this album, I thought her voice was her biggest weakness. Now it seems like her biggest strength, like she's not leaning as much on her piano. And yet she still has some of her best piano work in this album

from pitchfork? that's a fantastic review :) am delighted. i think we should see these rolling in soon

Amazing, right? This is huge. It looks like this is the first-ever VC album reviewed by Pitchfork, and the author himself, Matthew Schnipper, said on twitter that he was

Super happy to have reviewed the excellent new @VanessaCarlton album!!!! First time I ever reviewed an album tbh!!!!

There are murmurings about a "Pitchfork Effect" -- here's hoping V gets a nice little boost.  ;D

Has anybody noticed how hard it is to find an "official" review of the album? I'm not sure if there is some intentional timing behind this, or if it's a red flag that this album is getting no critical attention. But usually new album reviews are posted in advance of the actual release date? Maybe I have not been keeping up with the music industry. But, for instance, Joanna Newsom is releasing an album on the 23rd as well, and yet it is easy to find 10 reviews for hers...

Why nothing for V? Seems suspicious.

Liberman has a better production, I believe, though there are more individual songs I'm kind of lukewarm about. But I've only listened to some of them once, so when the album comes out I'll really give it all a full listen and do a track-by-track review as well :)

May I ask which ones you are lukewarm about?

And if so, which ones are you lukewarm about?  :P

Basically all the new ones haha. "Unlock the Lock," "Matter of Time," "River," "Ascension." I also don't love "Take it Easy," mostly because the first entire minute is nothing haha.

I'm sure they'll grow on me with time, but I loved "Young Heart," "Willows," and the living room session of "NWSUTB" after just one listen.

Edit: I'm listening to "Unlock the Lock" a second time, and the harmonies in the chorus are SO spectacular, I might take it off the lukewarm list. Haha!

what! matter of time and river are two of my favorites! willows is also grand. im surprised you don't like the intro to take it easy -- though i will say the first time i heard that song i was a bit disappointed about how the intro faded when vanessa's vocal started. ascension i also find fascinating because the chords she uses seem to allow for multiple melodic interpretations, and they play with my ears.

river, i think, is my current favorite. the song sounds like a river to me.. starting of flowing serenely, and then gaining rapids in the chorus, then mellowing out again and winding a bit...

This album is amazing. I wrote a week ago how I wasn't excited for it, but now I can't stop listening. It's so beautiful and so happy and I think it's the best work she's ever done. I can't wait to see her on Halloween and this album is everything I need right now. You can tell how happy she is with John and bb Syd and it's so great to see it in her work. I love it.

Yeah you can totally catch her mom vibes coming through! And agreed..her best work. Vocally, lyrically, musically... She has soared with this album. Its beauty is almost hard to believe!

I'm so obsessed with this album. I believe this is the only VC album I've loved immediately after the first listen. What also stands out is that it seems to be V's first "true" album, in the sense that here we have a complete body of work, of distinctive cohesiveness. I feel an elevated sense of Vanessa's mastery of her craft, a sense of wonder at how she was able to create such a beautiful work of art out of 10 smaller works of art, all of which beg to be replayed multiple times and appear to have been perfected to their finest details.

I think this album is going to be incredibly successful and I'm so happy for V! She's arrived!
