I think maybe this was written regarding Vanessa's loss?

Find a love, go build a cabin
Find land and a tree, carving a wish
On your knees, plant seeds
the dirt plant a rose,
Where the devil don't see

Love thy green, so lucky you find it
Our memories, they
don't stay behind us
Our minds are strong
Could it be enough to bring strength to the bone

Arm of the willow is hanging above me
Now I'm back in the sun, will it fall upon me?
I won't let you down, Man you will keep safe my love
Safe my love

Sow the earth, blanket a bounty
in our destinies hearse
the devil drives empty
And a babies' eyes
The ritual purifies every design

Arm of the willow is hanging above me
I'm back in the sun Would it fall upon me
I won't let you down, Maybe youll keep save my love
Maybe youll keep save my love
Man you will keep save my love

Arm of the willow, hanging above me
My back in the sun, Would it fall upon me?
I won't let you down, Maybe you will keep safe
let you down
Maybe you will keep safe
let you down
Man you will keep safe my love
Save my love

With Vanessa i think she's pretty set for life from earlier royalties. Artists who write their own music make much higher returns on royalties. A Thousand Miles is a universal song that will be played forever and used forever.

62 means around 6.5k-7k Given Britney Spears at 47 shifted around 8.5k this week.

Not awesome for a start. But about half of Heroes and Theives,

I resent the implication that its the fans fault of an album doesnt do well.
We are the very people buying the albums, it's not up to a fan to spread word about an artist. It's about that artist and the label getting exposure.

Not top 50 isn't wonderful news from a sales perspective, I doubt the label will be thrilled given that Carlton is one of their more marketable assets. But then again she self funded the production aspect so really they were just doing a and r for a share.

Given that it's a large indie label, their business model will not be solely tied to record sales. Far from it. They'll be looking for artists with rabid fanbases they can exploit at tours and online. We are that fanbase.

Real shame Carlton can't seem to break out of the shackles of A Thousand Miles though. It's like the industry are always looking to her for a repeat of that, I'm very surprised she promoted this record on the platforms she did given her current profile and marketing. I guess Razor and Tie were looking for 10k+ at least.

record sales for an artist such as vanessa carlton is irrelevant, there are a whole set of indie girls and boys making a comfortable living off of sales far less than what is being discussed here. She wont have to work again after the success of her earlier hits so remember this is not necessary, and music will still find its way to us.

Sales are so irrelevant to her career right now. I think the label would hope for around 12-15k given that Heroes started with 18k when the industry was a lot stronger.

It went onto sell around 80k so id say anything above that would not be a realistic expectation, especially given this albums less marketable approach.

As was mentioned, touring is the revenue generator for almost all artists now - which is fuelled by strong record sales, so generating interest and marketing the tour is really the purpose of a hit cd now since the costs only usually really breakeven.

As she self-funded this CD, the only expense to the label will be the promotion, and right now that hasn't exactly been a heavy ads campaign affair, its been almost entirely artist driven. I have to admit the theyve handled her a lot better than THE INC did. Shes one of the more famous names at the label, but fame does not correlate to record sales.

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Re: UK Tour?

Shep Bush is too big. Somewhere intimate in London Bridge, East London or Camden would be cool.

Shep Bush is for hundreds of people.

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Re: UK Tour?

I think a London show would be enough for the UK. She played Edinburgh once too, i think those are cities that would embrace her and her music.

I've been waiting on baited breath re: a London show. I work for a tv show in London now and i'd love to try and get her on it even if that's not an area i specifically control!

I think they say "You're not as clever, but she brings you to life"
im not sure any more! lol

also definitely diamonds on rings.

Say you see through the folly but you do it for the fame
Im fighting jet streams drinking cheap wine on airplans
Your in LA not Chicago
Key under mat, i walk the dog order in home alone

Found your letter on a full moon sunday night.
Some other girl that hes found has these plans a real life
Pour the vodka and it dulls sharp lies,
Breathe the words, Diamonds and Pearls

I got from the first segment. I prefered dulls sharp knives. I think the first draft of the song was better but maybe vanessa felt it was too close to the bone

Creative Endeavors / Two very basic 'Rabbits on the Run' wallpapers

I didn't want to use the traditional Vanessa font for these, because to be honest unless its going to be very floral and busy then it looks out of place, so heres two very simple images i literally threw together in five.

Creative Endeavors / Some old Nessa music videos we did.

Not sure if you guys remember this, but I posted a Fools Like Me music video about three years ago now at the end of my first year of University.

Even though we did it on literally zero budget, and it was a starter project for us that allowed us to negotiate rights, get to terms with filming etc etc, we definitely had such an amazing time filming it and even now, despite it having its flaws, every one of us watch it back fondly and I think thats super rare for ANY project.

Check it out.

Also we had started work on a Who's To Say video for the track from Harmonium but since we were so limited with budget and time we couldn't take it any further than the test shoot i did in studio. This was the first time I'd operated a camera myself and edited, so it was again part of a learning curve.

So thanks to Vanessa's music for allowing me to explore my creativity! Three years later, we'd learned so much, upped our game and all of the stuff i made is on a reel. Including Fools Like Me!

Let me know what you guys think of this old stuff. We loved making it and had such a blast together. Nearly every shoot ive been on since has been so brutal that this was definitely a set of great memories.

If you could pick any vanessa song from Harmonium or preferably Heroes and Thieves to have a video, bar MORE THAN THIS (too grand, epic!) then which would you rather see a music video for.

It seems the early favourite is Who's to Say.
