Live Shows / Re: 2011 Fall tour with Matt Nathanson
« on: September 11, 2011, 12:55:57 pm »
I'm thinking of heading to the Chicago show, but we'll have to see how my schedule ends up falling into place.

Also, I've seen Matt in concert once before (about 3 years ago) and he actually puts on a pretty decent show. Lots of covers, good crowd interaction and he plays all his hits. I know at one point he did a medley of a bunch of different songs and, unless my memory is very much mistaken, he had the chorus to A Thousand Miles as part of it. He also did a meet and greet after the show and he was a really nice guy, very gracious to his fans and whatnot.

Does anyone have mp3s of her songs from the livestream event? I just got home from spending 2 weeks abroad (without internet), so I'm sorry if they've already been posted. Thanks!!

The day Nolita Fairytale was leaked, I got a brand new car (not even joking). I'm really wondering if the day Carousel leaks will be able to top that. I should buy a lotto ticket because V brings me luck :)

It says the article was up on March 10. Did they just add the listening feature today or is it possible Carousel has been floating around the radio waves for almost a month and none of us have caught it?

This is so exciting! I was wondering what her first single was going to be. We should check for casting info and see if we can get a good Nessaholics showing in the video :)

Vanessa has many amazing lines in her songs, but this was the line that got me hooked:

"He's my first... mistake."

Also, I love when she sings, "Darling, it's you I'm without."

I literally shrieked when I saw V in the video this morning. I loved the concept and think this might be my favorite music video in the past few years.

Was it just me or did some of Vanessa's dance moves seem oddly reminiscent of the "White Houses" video? Especially the part where she was kinda swaying her hands.

Is anyone going?

I hope so. I'd love for someone to record the performance.

Ooooh, Afterglow is a good one too. Very soothing. I love to play the bridge. It sounds so haunting. Tall Tales is another one of my favorites right now. I try to play it everyday so I can get better at it. Even though it's super repetitive, I love it. I wish I had a real piano too, though. I have a keyboard, and the notes don't sustain for very long, so the songs don't sound as good as they could, but they sound alright in my head. :)

I had that problem with my keyboard, so I bought a pedal for it and the difference is amazing! The songs sounds so much better with it and it only cost like $20.

And I think my favorite song to play is Heroes and Thieves. I recently learned I Don't Wanna Be A Bride on guitar though, and that's really fun too.

I guess I'm the oddball in this thread, but I loved Spring Street the first time I heard it. I think it was the first song on H&T that I fell in love with.

I think we're all being a little harsh here. Cheryl's music isn't supposed to be beautiful, deep or melodically moving; her genre is pop & dance hits, and this song fits that perfectly. True, she turned V's masterpiece into something less than spectacular, but if you listen to this with the idea of dancing to it in a club rather than being moved by the music, it's a fairly decent song and I would have a blast dancing to it.

Also, Ingrid wrote Parachute with the intention of someone else singing it, and she was extremely excited Cheryl was the one who picked it up. It gave her a lot of publicity and huge amounts of royalties in the UK. She only decided to sing it herself recently, and even her version has some auto-tune in it.

With that being said, I'm in no way saying that Cheryl is an amazing singer, but she is an artist with a genre very different than V or Ingrid's, and we should respect that. Her trying to do an acoustic version of ATM would be a totally different story though, but luckily, that's not the case here.

i'm kinda skeptical that it's her, only because everything she writes on there we've heard before. it's not quirky thinks like "victor ate my flip-flop" or random stuff like that that other artists put on their twitters.
