General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Hands On Me Video (discussion)
« on: February 18, 2008, 02:19:10 pm »
What a boring video!! I don't think it fits the song at all- the video doesn't really have any strong emotion coming through it, but the song really does. There was nothing that reflected the orchestra in it. Ugh, dissapointment.

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Vanessa in the UK?
« on: November 28, 2007, 06:32:08 am »
I kind of doubt that she'll be coming again- but I hope to be proven wrong. The UK market is a lot more open to singer/songwriters now so she may well stand a chance.

Did she really last come in 2002!? That seems like forever ago! I'm getting oooold.

You guys seriously need to stop harassing her, no matter what you may think about her.  :?

You're totally right.  This is the internet.  It's serious business.  We should all hold hands and sing songs.

That's right, because hiding behind a computer monitor gives you the inherent right to act like a complete jack ass. I'd be pretty bitter too if I was an unattractive out of shape man nearing his 30's living in fucking Kentucky as well, so I can't blame you.

HAHAHAHAHA. One word: brilliant.

GTFO, Rosie   Who's side are you on here anyways?

  Oh, I TOTALLY buy that he is/was a promoter or promo guy.  Most of them are a dime a dozen, and about as disposable as shirts.  And when they answer a third-rate blog, it makes one wonder what work they're really doing.  My guess? Watching Judge Mathis.

So this reviewer doesn't get it.  So what?  There is no one artist that everyone gets, not even The Beatles or Beethoven or you name it.  Criticism of my fave artists used to make me nuts, but now I could not care less if someone else likes something I like or not.

Dan/NS

The only reason it upsets me is because of the people reading it.  He can hate her all he wants, but when people read that, they're not going to want to check out her new music.  Lots of people just can't think for themselves!!

I get you, but it's not as if he is some kind of uber-critic who has credibility.  30 years ago, there were critics with names that had some kind of pull or following.   Today, we have dickheads with laptops that blog.  Whoop-de-doo.  That page probably has less hits than the Jets defensive line.

She's had great writeups in major publications.  This one means nothing.
Real music fans---whom I believe comprise 99% of her audience---will not take this seriously.

Dan/NS

Exactly. We shouldn't pay this guy any attention at all. How happy would you be if you were some random blogger and suddenly you realised loads of people had read your article (no matter how bad it is)? Your head grows. So let him write all he wants.

The A&M guy thing is HILARIOUS. I'm SO sure it's real.

It's not terrible.  It's not terrible at all.

If you choose to live in a place that is subject to wildfires, do not expect me to feel sorry for you when they happen.

Listen, ladies.  Time for an ecology lesson.  The way that section of land works is such that the wildfires actually RENEW the growth.  The plant life there has evolved such that wildfires are part of the renewal process.  Just like winter is to the NE and midwest.

How arrogant would we be if we moved north and then tried to stop winter from happening?

You say "how tragic."  I say "serves you dumb fucks right for living there!"

Do you know why the Wildfires are so massive?  Because we stop all of the little ones.  We try so hard to stop the small fires that when a fire DOES catch, it's MASSIVE.  Immagine a giant damn filling with water, and you just kep making the walls taller to hold it back.  What happens when it breaks?  It's a shit load worse than it would have been if you'd just gotten wet for the last decade.

This is not New Orleans where people moved there then over time the land has been worn away.  People moved to those areas of CA and kept telling themselves "this won't happen to ME!"  Yes.  Yes it will.

And also, stop building your houses on mountains and crying when mud slides occur.  And stop moving into the wilderness and crying when mountain lions eat your dog.  I don't give a fuck.  And no, you don't deserve federal funding.

According to you, sympathy and empathy are wasteful emotions. What a great way to live your life.

True. Gina is right though- what the hell is 'Arabia'? Do they broadcast to the whole of the middle east and miss out Iran!? All very odd...

Exactly.  I knew that there were a million MTV's out there but "Arabia"... why would they call it that?  And Like Rosie said, is it broadcast through the entire middle east?  Just strange.

I'm sure MTV Arabia broadcasts to places such as Dubai, which is a huge commercial metropolis now. It annoys me that when people think of the Middle East they just think of Iraq, Iran and people living in caves. They're not as backward as you think they are.

I think what we mean is that 'Arabia' is a very abstract term for the region. Iran is not technically classed as an 'Arab' country so dos MTV Arabia broadcast there? I don't think many people think of the middle east as 'people living in caves'. The middle east had some of the earliest civilisations and has the most amazing wealth of history.

I just thought it was funny out of all the MTV's, they had her do a commercial for Arabia, lol. I knew there are like 6367653 versions of MTV in many countries.

MTV Arabia!?  8O  lol

haha, apparently there's MTV everywhere now.  We all had that look on our faces when she was recording it, and then she made a comment to us like, "no we're not in Arabia" because none of us knew what was going on... so when we heard her say that we all were like what the heck is she talking about?  Haha.  It was humorous.

I do kinda feel like V might have been offended that that was the only one they asked her to do.  C'mon, how many fans does she really have in "Arabia"???

MTV is everywhere and has been everywhere for a LONG time. There is even MTV Africa. I wish Americans would realise the extent of the cultural imperialism that is going on!

Oh and what was he hinting at about Irv Gotti? Confirming my suspicions that they are going out!!

Boy does that guy love the sound of his own voice...
