Live Shows / Re: 09.28.11 9:30 Club - Washington, DC (review)
« on: September 29, 2011, 09:02:42 am »
I ate my chocolate as soon as I got up to the balcony to my friends, haha. I was hungry! I also stayed for all of Matt's show, which was really good. Let, I think she said the chocolates were made by her friend and were inspired by I Don't Wanna Be A Bride. They're definitely expensive - $4 for just one - but they come in a cute little bag with a card and are very tasty.

Arwen, I didn't get a cupcake! I was a little too annoyed at the time though. I felt like they packed us in there and the bartender was pretty rude. Then there was this woman who yelled at anyone sitting in front of her at the bar because she wanted to "protect the integrity of the line" - which I could maybe understand more if we weren't the first people to be let in to the club. But, that's the 9:30 for you!

I'm a horrible Nessaholic ... Arwen, I was also one of the first bunch in line and was in the back bar! I stood upstairs on the balcony, though - I like being able to see everything. And Alexander, I was the girl behind you in line to meet Vanessa! I guess I'm too lazy to find out if people are Nessaholics or not, I should start asking at shows :-p

V put on an awesome show! She was great last night, but even better tonight, I thought. The setlist was:

Carousel
Tall Tales for Spring
Fairweather Friend
White Houses (rhodes)
Dear California (rhodes)
London
Hear the Bells
I Don't Wanna Be a Bride

I took a few videos of Dear California, Hear the Bells and I Don't Wanna Be a Bride on my phone - I'm sure they're awful quality, but I'll upload them this weekend anyway. She was so sweet to sign and take pics with everyone, we talked about how I met her for the first time nine years ago and how fast the time has gone - I mentioned Nessaholics and she got really excited. All in all, a great night :-)

Also, the chocolates are a little pricey at $4, but so worth it!

Live Shows / Re: 2011 Fall tour with Matt Nathanson
« on: September 26, 2011, 09:20:27 pm »

Also, I've seen Matt in concert once before (about 3 years ago) and he actually puts on a pretty decent show. Lots of covers, good crowd interaction and he plays all his hits. I know at one point he did a medley of a bunch of different songs and, unless my memory is very much mistaken, he had the chorus to A Thousand Miles as part of it. He also did a meet and greet after the show and he was a really nice guy, very gracious to his fans and whatnot.

I've seen Matt Nathanson a few times, and even if you're not crazy about his music, he puts on an excellent show. I'm a fan of his older stuff and many of his fans are really annoying - but he's hilarious and like you said, has great interaction with the crowd. I'm going to both the DC shows :-)

The show was great! It was nice to meet a few of you, and put some faces to the names :-) I loved "Fools Like Me" on the rhodes, but I think Marching Line might be my new favorite song by her. She seemed pretty nervous, but sounded great and told some fun stories about a few of the songs. I'm sure she'll only get better with the rest of the tour!

What time are people arriving/would anyone want to get there a little early and grab some dinner beforehand? They serve some dinner food and drinks before and during performances. I'm planning on just going right after work, and will probably be there around 6:30 or so.

my ticket for this is purchased :)

just need to figure out transportation now :(

Kulp, do you mean transportation to DC or to the show in general? I'm more than happy to help people figure out the metro, bus, taxi, etc. as I live in DC :-) The venue is a little out of the way, but not as hard to get to as I had thought!

After looking on the website, I see that it is somewhat metro accessible: http://jamminjava.com/home/main/contact. The biggest thing will be getting a cab once the show is over, but since it begins so early I don't think it will be a problem. :-)

I was way late to this party ... if anyone has an extra ticket for the 26th show, I would be forever indebted to you. I would also repay you in cookies and compliments in addition to the cost of the ticket, if that helps  :)

I'll be going to this one as well.

I checked on Google Maps and it seems like there's a bus going there from downtown DC. But if anyone is going, I'd be glad to carpool too (I don't drive but I can chip in for gas money).

Ghis, can you send me that info? Thanks :-)

I'm almost 100% that I will be going to this show. The down side to living in DC is that there is no need for a car, and this is the ONE venue that it is impossible to get to by metro alone. Will anyone else from the DMV area be going that would be interested in carpooling?

thanks to Ghis for his facebook update which led me to check here.

Yeah, pretty much. I was like "V has a new song? Where the hell have I been?" lol.

Haha, you're welcome guys!
Now I miss Vanessa even more after hearing that new material!

Yeah, thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the video and the mp3, it is currently playing on repeat on my itunes :-)

there are only a few lines of the lyrics I can decipher, like in the opening she says:

"wasting days away
waiting on a new age
times have changed
but I get older one more year"

then later on I can hear her sing "but I've never been so sure," and "never gone", "got a knife throwing...", "but the walls have to move/and she never answers back" and that's about it.

Hey all, sorry for the delay but I finally have my pictures up on photobucket. Here's the link: http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/littlejess/Vanessa%208-02%20Spiedie%20Fest/

Also, I'm working on the video clips I took, but the computer I have for the summer is pretty basic so loading is taking forever!
