General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Re: New Album- Euphoria?!
« on: April 15, 2014, 08:26:07 am »
Full name: Vanessa Lee Carlton. [My middle name is a family name and spelled that way] because my grandfather changed it. It was Lieberman, but he changed it to Lee.

Off of our very own forum, so I guess it's super credible, from an early VH1 interview

I don't believe that she has explicitly said anything about the title with regard to where it came from/what it means/represents. Any interpretation is all ours

Thanks for that,  hopefully Liberman's on the way then, if the running order is getting sorted., then it appears to be the penultimate step. Fingers crossed for some updates in the coming weeks.

She posted on the 14th (last Friday) that it was bein mastered get the next two weeks, so I'm not sure whether it's been finished very quickly, or half done. I suppose if it's just a mock up for Stevie to do the track listing, it doesn't really matter. Also, someone on twitter asked if that was the final artwork and she said no.

I know it's not strictly related to the new album, so forgive me for posting in here, it's just that I don't think it necessarily warrants making a new thread.

I've just been reading a Deer Tick interview, and this cropped up

Quote
"Might we ever see an album of duets/covers with the wife? Oh yeah. We’ve been thinking about that. Probably country and western songs. My mother-in-law really wants us to do it, and she’s a really smart lady.

I reckon this is actually quite plausible, Vanessa has recently been getting involved in a lot more independent projects, such as that charity Songs for Slim a while back, and a cover/new interpretation of lyrics and musical arrangement wouldn't be too time consuming, I don't think. It's a possibility we may have to look forward to :)

That's such a nice picture, they make such a lovely couple, I'm liking John's shirt/suit colours and Vanessa obviously looks wonderful :) I'm sure I've seen Vanessa in that dress before somewhere...

She's so sneaky, she's mentioned that title in quite a few tweets/posts and they slid under the radar. It's a quite an album name departure, don't you think? It's definitely not your more conventional titling choices, like perhaps her other albums are. Regardless, I'm looking forward to it, 3 songs left to mix!

Edit:

This is just me speculating, and I might be totally off, but do you think because of all of the events that have happened this past year, such as starting a family with John, and tragically losing her baby, that it has made her think about her past/heritage/culture and how this will move forward into her new family, her new 'dear, beloved.'? Jut a thought..

Have a great time, I'd love to hear how it was, if you've got time to type up a review afterwards :)

I know, I'd have thought by now she would have told us, or given us a cryptic clue as she normally does. Unless she doesn't know herself! Any speculative guesses? Euphoria can be discounted I suppose...

Hey there :)

I've just had a quick surf through some of your work, and you have a very impressive and extensive collection of wonderful poetry. At the minute, I'm particularly obsessed with the song 'Get Good' and reading your Endless Perennials, I got a really strong sense of that hope and optimism that permeates that song. Very beautiful, my friend :)

I wonder why she deleted the tweet? Perhaps it was accidental. Good to know anyways that she's nearly done with the album, and I'm glad that's she's had a wonderful honeymoon. I wish I could have gone to one of the concerts in Manchester, I believed she duetted with John, and I missed it!

Alright, so I'll admit the only reason I started to listen to their music because I was interested in who Vanessa was duetting with on 'In our Time.' However I have over the last few months become big fans of their music, and have tickets for their upcoming gig in Manchester (hopefully Vanessa will be there too :) )

Reading a few comments on here, and I do kinda agree, that John's voice can be described as a bit nasally, although I have learned to really his style, and also that he is a really talented guitarist and musician.

A couple of songs that I recommend, off of a variety of their albums:

Baltimore Blues No 1 - really good guitar line, and made me buy a cheap one off eBay, just so I could learn it
In Our Time - because Vanessa (duh) and a nice country style story to the song.
Daydreaming - (Strictly off another of John's bands called Middle Brother) but a beautiful song nonetheless.
Thyme - Makes me think of Christmas for some reason...
Twenty Miles - their most popular song on Youtube I believe? But for a good reason.

Any thoughts from you guys?

Looks like Vanessa's back in England to finish off the album, according to her Twitter. I wonder if she will indulge us in some snippets via soundcloud?
