Vanessa Songs / Lyrics / Sheet Music / Re: Get Good
« on: February 16, 2011, 02:55:47 pm »
Uploading to my facebook now, maybe KULP can get it from there.  It seemed the easiest way through my Flip Share.  I could have done it to you tube as well, but I feel like I want to covet this song for us nessaholics...is that selfish?

I wanna see too :) Can I add you?

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Re: Vanessa Carlton Dream
« on: February 08, 2011, 09:13:39 pm »
I had another Vanessa dream last night!

So, I guess that somehow Rabbits on the Run had leaked onto the internet, so I downloaded it (I assume all this happened, I don't remember it in my dream) and put it on my iPod. Then when I came home from school, I went into the living room so I could go listen to and enjoy it. The only song I remember hearing was Fair Weather Friends, except she changed the name to Magical Thinking. I vaguely remember hearing it in my dream, but I do remember that it was a clear, obviously studio version.

I was so happy when I woke up. :) I love having these Vanessa dreams! In the other one I had a while ago (I think I posted this one in an old thread :\) I dreamt that Vanessa was there with me at the piano helping me learn how to play Half a Week Before the Winter. I didn't see her though, but her hands were there. Weird, I know. But the next day (not in my dream) when I went to practice HAWBTW, I could play the parts I was having trouble with! It was a very magical feeling. :)

Hey, I've noticed that some people have been guessing possible dates that Rabbits might come out. I think we should all pick a date that we think it will come out, and then we can see who's the closest or who guessed it right on........kind of cheesy  ;D, I know, but I think it would be fun. For me, I'm going to go with April 8th. That date has just been floating around in my head for some reason. :)

Live Shows / Re: August 5, 2009- The Americana at Glendale, CA (review)
« on: January 31, 2011, 05:32:27 pm »
This topic and performance is a bit old, but please tell me I'm not the only one addicted to these performances! Wish I could have been there as I live in California. I remember the day it happened and wanting to go so bad. Unfortunately, I was going through depression at the time and wasn't able to make it.

I always watch the videos and find her fascination with the wheels humorous because I go to the Americana all the time and I know what wheels she is talking about. It is such a random think to be amused by. Funny how someone as complex as V has this fascination with elevator wheels.

You are not alone! I am TOTALLY addicted to her performance of "Half a Week Before the Winter." The intro that she does absolutely mesmerizes me! I try to replicate it when I play it, but of course, it's no where near as good.

I wish I could have gone to this performance too because I don't live too far from Glendale, but this was before I joined the forums or anything, so I wasn't aware that there was going to be a concert. When I found the videos on YouTube shortly after, I was really disappointed, BECAUSE I COULD HAVE TOTALLY BEEN THERE!!!!  :(

YAY!!!! I am so happy to hear that you are able to go! I was praying for you!  ;D
I have a feeling she will drop a release date at the concert..... :)

Hey guys, I don't you if you remember, but one time when Vanessa played "Fair-Weather Friends" at a show, she prefaced it with a short blurb about the book The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion. It was on one of the live recordings of the song, and after hearing her say it each time I listened to the song, I decided that I should probably look into that book. So, I checked it out from my University's library at the beginning of the quarter and I started reading it. Sadly, my workload became heavier, and I was not able to finish the book. I was wondering if any other Nessaholics read the book after she suggested it. I didn't quite see the elements that V talked about, but that's probably because I failed to finish the book. However, I felt like it was a very well written memoir and I will have to return to it again when I get more time. Do any of you have any thoughts on this book?

lol, I don't even recognize Valentines day as holiday anymore.  My husband and I don't celebrate. We take every day to appreciate and love one another!
ANYWAY.  IF I can get someone to switch with me on Sunday, and cover four hours of my shift on Tuesday, I can basically drive, sleep, go to the concert, drive back home (13+ hours each way) sleep, then go back to work. Do you think it's worth it?? I DO!

Awww, that's so cute! I like your philosophy rather than celebrating Valentine's Day once a year!  ;D
I hope you are able to go! It's worth it!

Other Musicians / Re: What is the last song you listened to?

"Taxi Cab" by Vampire Weekend. I would rate it 8/10. It's a mellow song, but it makes me happy. :)

Entertainment - Movies / TV / Books / Re: "Lost" on ABC

Oh, no! They weren't dead the whole time! It's just that, at the end of season 5, you know how the detonated the bomb? And they thought it would take them back in time to 2004 so the plane would never crash? Well, in season 6, it was split up into two timelines, i guess? One was what would have happened if they never crashed on the island, and one if the bomb didn't work, but took them back to 2007. And somehow (I'm not sure how though) the timelines were linked, like they were happening at the same time and Desmond knew it, because he's "special" and can go back and forth between them. So it was his mission to tell all the characters in 2004 that there was something more than the lives they were living, hence, he took them to the church at the end where they "moved on." So actually, in 2004, they all were really dead, but in 2007 on the island, they were still alive. But it's just like after all of them died they were ready to move on together and they had to move on together because of the relationships they established while they were living on the island. It's like they were always destined to be together, even if the plane never crashed on the island, kind of like the "universe-course-correcting" element they talked about before. I know I probably contradicted myself in this explanation, but it's what me and my Lost-obsessed friends have agreed upon.  :D

I was pretty satisfied with the ending, even though they didn't answer a lot of questions, but I think the whole show was more about the characters and relationships, rather than details about the Dharma Initiative and other stuff. Oh, and I agree with you about season 5. It was not the best and I think the time-traveling element really turned people off. But all in all, I have to say it's the best show I've ever watched! :)

Oh my gosh, I am reading all these "Lost" posts just now for the first time and now it's over! It's kind of like going back in time and seeing people's first reactions to it. It's pretty cool. I was (and still am) such a Lostie! I miss it so much! Was anyone else out there a die-hard Lost fan like me? :)

That would have been nice to get unreleased songs on there! :)

Personally, I am not a greatest hits or best of person D: I'm picky lol.

lol, me either.  Half the time the songs that people swoon over and are popular with the masses, I rarely listen to.  Such as ATM, WH, OD, and NF.  I tend to skip them, or start the cd after those tracks.  Not that they aren't amazing songs or dislike them...I just want to experience something different than the masses.

Me too! My favorite song is Home, but when I tell my friends that I like Vanessa, they automatically think my favorite song must be ATM, so they start singing it or whatever, and it kind of annoys me that people automatically think that that's my favorite song. I think ATM and/or NF might have the lowest play count in my iTunes of all my VC songs. I wish my friends would like more of the music I like, because our music tastes are pretty dissimilar, but I also don't want to force my preferences on them, because I don't like it when people do that to me. Still, I wish I could spread the Vanessa love! <3
