I'm not really expecting answers, I just posted to see if I'm the only one thinking about this.

Like, it's June and we haven't heard anything about her doing any TV or radio promo. How are Vanessa/R&T going to promote this album? At least she went around a few radio stations before 'Heroes' dropped - she hasn't even been doing that with this new single/album. Surely they can't expect to rely on internet promo to sell the album? I'm getting slightly concerned. I mean, even though The Inc were awful, at least they tried to push her music with radio, TV appearances, etc. What have R&T been doing? They had her make a music video, uploaded it on Vevo and then ... that was that. I know they're not a major label, but still...shouldn't Vanessa be out there promoting right about now?

I'm just wondering how they plan to promote & sell this album.

Just listened to this with my headphones on with the volume loud and it just gets me going even more!

I might be on my own here, but I think it was the perfect lead single for that era.

A heavy metal cover of "A Thousand Miles":

This is so awful & hilarious at the same time, especially when he screams "TONIGHT".

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Larry Carlton (Vanessa's uncle)
« on: February 24, 2011, 08:17:50 am »
I only just found out he's an American Jazz player and he's played with Lindsey Buckingham a few times. Maybe it was he who introduced Lindsey to Vanessa?

Either way, it's cool there's two Carlton's in the industry!

Not to an extreme extent, but say she made her music more relatable to the masses (lyrically, musically) and she changed her image drastically (cut her hair, dyed it, less clothes, more make up, etc). Would you be upset? Would you understand why she did it?

Not that she ever would do it, but I was just thinking about Avril Lavigne.

On the closing track to her new album.

It's called "Waiting" and samples the song V is most known for.

I'm dreading this. Cheryl is awful.

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Vanessa Carlton and Irv Gotti.

Why does this keep getting deleted? Which one of you is on a power trip? This is ridiculous!

Anyway, my friend sent me this:

and I have a contact who know irv gotti....so of course I asked him to hit irv up and answer some questions about our vanessa.

Irv said they are still friends and she's the most down to earth singer he knows (not that she wouldn't be)
He said she smokes weed like one of the boys playing pratical jokes and was happy for her when she came out of the closet.

Then he touched on what's she's known most for....those flops.
He said they planned to promote the album heavily but she didn't want to. And when they told him how much it sold the first week he thought they were joking and kept saying "seriously...ur joking right"?
Cuz they got all this positive feedback and then it flopped so hard.

He said vanessa didn't care at all and was unfazed by the terrible sales and low concert attendance. He said she's unlike a lot of young artists. And that time after time her albums tank and she stays true to her artistry and isn't fazed by sales but it is a business and that's why they parted company.

He has a few connections in the music industry since he's trying to get in and asked a contact who knows Irv to talk about Vanessa. So here it is.

One of our favorite wineries, Swanson Vineyards has launched a new website that presents Swanson as more of a lifestyle than just a winery. The brand already sold Swanson-branded caviar and the delectable Alexis bonbons (a delicious curry and cabernet sauvignon chocolate confection) but now the site includes more gifts. "We're presenting a new and lively face for our wines with our new website," explains proprietor W. Clarke Swanson. "This fresh approach with our website characterizes Swanson as a winery with elegant lifestyle choices, which is expressed by the detail and personality of our new site," he added.

Orchestrated by the winery's Creative Director, Alexis Swanson Traina, the Swanson Vineyards' new site communicates the Swanson wine experience through illustrator Jean-Philippe Delhomme's fanciful renderings. The website will offer new material each month and includes Alexis' Napa, a blog written by Alexis Swanson Traina, full of tips and her personal point of view on life in Napa. Her blog will also include profiles of San Francisco Bay Area personalities in a section called Peeps & Players: currently featured are Katrina Markoff, Ira Yeager, Trevor Traina, Andy Spade, Thomas Britt, Jean-Philippe Delhomme, Torryne Choate and Sam Godfrey.

Swanson Vineyards is also opening the Sip Shoppe this summer at the Rutherford, California vineyard. Billed as a candy store for adults the shop offers sips of Swanson Vineyards' finest library vintages paired with small bites as well as gifts and wines available by the case of the bottle. Tastings include caviar, chocolates, pates de fruits (jellies) and sorbets, in mini pairings such as Swanson Vineyards Pinot Grigio served with a large dollop of Swanson Vineyards' domestic caviar on a potato chip. The signature tasting is the Salonnière, featuring "Alexis" Cabernet Sauvignon paired with Alexis Bonbon and served with the highly delicate dessert wine Angelica. The shoppe sells playful kits including the Newlywed Kit: six bottles of Swanson Vineyards' special occasion wine "Just Married," accompanied by an ostrich feather duster and a sage bundle (complete with instructions to clear out bad energy and create wedded bliss). Coming shortly, The Break Up Kit, The Stork Kit and the Please Forgive Me Kit. Swanson Vineyards' partners include retail genius Andy Spade; renowned illustrator Jean-Philippe Delhomme; interior designer Thomas Britt; illustrious chocolatier Katrina Markoff of Vosges Haut Chocolate; Singer Vanessa Carlton and her exclusive stationery line (unique to Swanson Vineyards); avant-garde florist Torryne Choate; and renowned California painter, Ira Yeager. The shop opens July 15, hours are Thursday – Sunday 11:00am – 5:00pm.

I mean, this year she hasn't released anything and only played a handful of dates. How does she afford to live? And she's travelled a bit this year, too.

I guess this is an appreciation thread for "A Thousand Miles" - not only is it the song that 'made' her, but it also allows her to keep doing what she's doing.

:)

I really would love to hear "Unsung", Private Radio", "Rinse" and "Come Undone" done with a band on the next tour. I miss hearing those songs live, and now that her vocals have grown I bet they'd sound even better.

I'd also love to hear "Twilight", "Wanted", "She Floats", "The Wreckage" and "Superhero", too.

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Can anyone remember that story...
« on: September 24, 2009, 03:36:31 am »
about her performing on some show (I think it was during the 'Harmonium' era) and half-way through the performance they cut her off to go into an ad break, but she decided to carry on finish playing anyway and as a result, she was banned from ever performing there again (don't know if that's still the case)?

What channel was it? She's hilarious.
