Live Shows / Re: 10.27.12 Trask Coliseum -Wilmington, NC (review)
« on: October 29, 2012, 11:33:03 am »
Thanks for the reviews & glad you all had fun.

Vanessa looks and sounds fantastic. It's understandable why she didn't play any new songs, so I'm not too fussed about that. She'll debut them when the time's right. :)

Was stupidly hoping I'd bump into her while she's here recording.

Still; glad she's having a good time. Can't wait to hear what she & Steve cook up for the next project.

She said early on that she couldn't see herself writing a second record because "everything I wanted to say, I said with this album". She also said recently in her Vogue interview she hopes to leave the music industry for film. :( Hope she changes her mind.

She's releasing a "paradise edition" of 'Born to Die' in November though and recording her version of "Blue Velvet" to coincide with her H&M campaign. Woohoo. :D

Nice. I like the first one. I wish the photos from the 'Rabbits' era weren't so grainy though. :(

Vanessa Songs / Lyrics / Sheet Music / Re: New Album...expectations?
« on: August 12, 2012, 12:12:05 am »
I have no expectations for this album; I think that's the best way to approach it. The songs she's played so far are gorgeous, however, and it'll be interesting to see how well they translate in the studio. Since she's working with Steve again, I'm sure they'll be great.

Anyone still have this?

Links/MEGAUPLOAD is kaput

I don't have it, but do you still talk to Mandy??? She was fabulous!

Oh, she's definitely no Vanessa.

But for what she does as a pop artist, I think she's fabulous.

"Video Games", although full of cliches, is a fantastically well written pop song. It's actually one of my favourite of all time. She just captures the true essence of love perfectly with that song (for me).

She's climbing up my list of faves rapidly!

Have you heard any of her unreleased material? There's, like, five albums worth floating around on the net lol.

This is one of my favourite tracks out of the unreleased stuff:

"Never Let Me Go"

Quote
Hold me in your arms,
Love me like your best friends did
Promise I won't hurt you kid
Hold me really tight until the stars look big
Never let me go

All the world is ours
Like they say in Scarface kid
You can push your drugs and I can make it big
Singing CBGB's have a real good gig
Hey you never know

'Cause baby we were born to live fast and die young
Born to be bad and have fun
Honey, you and me can be one
Just believe
Come on

If you love me hardcore, then don't walk away
It's a game boy
I don't wanna play
I just wanna be yours
Like I always say
Never let me go

Boy, we're in a world war
Let's go all the way
Put your foot to the floor
Really walk away
Tell me that you need me more and more everyday
Never let me go
Just stay

We gonna go far
I can already taste it kid
LA's gonna look real good
Drive me in your car until the sky gets big
Never let me go

Send me to the stars
Tell me when I get there kid
I can be your Nancy, you can be my Sid
Get into some trouble like our parents did
Hey, they'll never know

'Cause baby we were born to be bad
Move on
Built to go fast
Stay strong
Honey, you & me and no one
Just believe
Come on

If you love me hardcore, then don't walk away
It's a game boy
I don't wanna play
I just wanna be yours
Like I always say
Never let me go

Boy, we're in a world war
Let's go all the way
Put your foot to the floor
Really walk away
Tell me that you need me more and more everyday
Never let me go
Just stay

I remember when I saw you for the first time
You were laughing
Sparking like a new dime
I came over
"Hello, can you be mine"
Can you be mine
Can you be mine...

If you love me hardcore, then don't walk away
It's a game boy
I don't wanna play
I just wanna be yours
Like I always say
Never let me go

Baby it's a sweet life
Sing it like a song
It's a short trip
Only getting one who can count on my love more than anyone
Never let me go

If you love me hardcore, then don't walk away
It's a game boy
I don't wanna play
I just wanna be yours
Like I always say
Never let me go

Boy, we're in a world war
Let's go all the way
Put your foot to the floor
Really walk away
Tell me that you need me more and more everyday
Never let me go
Just stay

I also think she's a fantastic songwriter. She can do no wrong in my eyes.

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Re: New Album- Euphoria?!
« on: August 05, 2012, 09:48:18 am »
SO excited by this!

Looks like she's breaking the tradition of waiting three years between albums.

I think it's a good tradition to break!  However, it could still be awhile, how long did we wait from recording to release for ROTR?!

About a year and a half? But even then it took her a while to build up the courage to go ahead & write 'Rabbits'. This time it's a bit different - she's been writing since she finished 'Rabbits' and already plans to record. It's a very good sign.

I just hope she books a few gigs here too. I'm dying to see her live.

^ It's not just you, lol. I hate the drumming in "The Marching Line" too! :X

And V sounds a pitchy mess on "This Time". I'm surprised at Linda Perry for that. The live version is much better.

I'd love to see "She Floats" performed with an orchestra, but I'm guessing I've got more chance of having a chat with Michael Jackson.
