soooo sat down to watch last nights episode of New Girl on HULU and a commercial came on with Blue Pool as the music.  a commercial for EOS body lotion (or perfume, I don't know I wasn't really paying attention, lol.  I just sat there wiht my mouth open ..I couldn't believe what I was hearing!

Omg! No way. I love EOS products. Blue Pool totally sounds right for the brand, too. I'll have to try and find that commercial!

Live Shows / Re: Troy Savings Bank Music Hall 12/3/15 review

At the Cleveland show, while we were at the merch table waiting in line, this girl in front of Phil went up with her stuff to sign and asked Vanessa for a photo to which Vanessa said she would love to but it would hold up the line and she couldn't do that for everyone. She put it very sweetly and calmly and I appreciated that and then she said, "Well you can take one right now if you want to?". She meant that while the girl was getting her stuff signed maybe her dad or whoever was with her could just take a photo but this girl misunderstood and literally walked AROUND the table over to Vanessa's side and stood behind her and posed for a photo.

It was so weird seeing Vanessa want to say "No, I didn't mean you can come over to this side" but stop herself and kind of decide how to respond to this chick without coming off as rude or bitchy. One of the girls from the merch table came flying in and literally propped up a sign saying "No photos during signing". I completely understood why this had to be done. She didn't have the time to take photos with EVERYONE and granting someone this opportunity would just mean that she would have to do it for everyone.

But it also made me realize that there is a personal space that an artist would want to have and kind of invading it is little I dunno... I guess they need to be respected? Its sad that it may come off as diva-ish but I think at the end of the day their human as well. So, yeah. I'm sure she means well if she's refusing hugs. She also sounded kinda sick in the HuffPo interview. Hope she's doing well.

Live Shows / 11/15/15 Cleveland, OH - Music Box Supper Club (Review)
« on: November 17, 2015, 08:50:44 pm »
OK. First show and had to obligatorily make this thread because I've never had the chance to. I mean 12 years and the first time I see her live - I need to give my review.

Cost me 60$ each way via Lyft to get to the venue but it was totally worth it. I may never get to see Vanessa again (long story - Expat foreign student here) so totally worth it.

The setlist was:
1. Carousel
2. Fairwea.... Wait. My copy of the setlist says FWF but she played Tall Tales for Spring. Someone who was at this show correct me if I'm wrong.
3. White Houses
4. Take it Easy
5. Willows
6. 7 Swords
7. Operator
8. Blue Pool
9. Nothing Something
10. River
11. ATM (She actually calls it ATM on the setlist!)
12. Hear the Bells
13. Marching Line

My first time seeing her in person. Most fans often say that she looked beautiful but I never really understood what they meant until Sunday night. I was expecting some acoustic stuff with just her and Skye but I was completely blown away. Skye is doing some really amazing music ju-ju with his feet and a loop pedal and garage band on stage and it's insane. I always wondered why the Living Room sessions of HOSS was so unacoustic and more like it was tweaked but I think this is why. My favorite moment in the show was when she stopped and appreciated how the audience was actually listening to her and she mentioned how she couldn't even hear the clanging of cutlery which I think was really sweet of the crowd.

She did have a small signing session in the end. What was weird was that she mentioned it on stage? Like before the encore she mentioned that she would be at the merch table to sign stuff, which also resulted in a really huge crowd :(. Buuuuut I had the pleasure of meeting Phil(pswik09) and Steve, who taught me the ropes on how to at least try and navigate the crowd when meeting Vanessa. We even waited afterwards to try and meet her after the show, which I only hope wasn't too creepy. And yeah... I actually had her sign my stuff which included the copies of my audio tapes of BnN and Harmonium, she reacted a bit and mentioned that Liberman will be available on audio cassette as a limited edition but I totally froze and wasn't able to say a thing when I met her. It didn't help that I hadn't eaten the whole day and had only consumed Rockstars (Yay! Gradschool). But anywho, it was absolutely fun meeting other NESSAholics. I think if you're ever making it to these shows, and if you think coming on here and talking about Vanessa stuff is such a release, meeting other NESSAholics and actually talking about her in person is... so relieving and the ability to actually be able to get along with other people with this same love for someone totally amazes me.

My Asian Lyft driver asked me why I was in Cleveland and if I also took a Lyft to get there. I kid you not, when I told him that the reason I was there was for a concert, he made me write down her name because he was so intrigued as to who she was that I would be willing to travel that far.

All in all, definitely a wonderful experience. Just wish I could've actually talked to her and not bottled up. In retrospect, I think it was the fact that I realized that saying something like: "I'm your biggest fan" wouldn't really justify how much I really love her and her music... I dunno. I'm rambling. I do hope I do get a chance to see her again before I graduate from school and also get to meet more of you! :D

Completely Off-Topic / Re: Vanessa Carlton on reddit
« on: November 17, 2015, 08:27:13 pm »
Oh. Just saw that this was active. reddit.com/r/VanessaCarlton

And the funny thing is I never got reddit in the beginning either though trust me its a bit of a rabbit hole what once your down its VERY difficult to get out of. I literally had to use RescueTime to help me get outta there.

I've seen some celebrities do AMAs (Ask Me Anything)s on there and their a really nice and quick way for celebrities and fans to interact. I don't really know if Vanessa would ever do one but it would really be nice. I dunno. Just brainstorming.

EDIT: @Tricia, the weirdest thing is that the only reason I know how to use reddit is because of the o-boards and this forum. I KNOW how forums work and how rules work and about admins and mods. It's not that complicated once your in the rabbit hole. :D

OK. Weird question for anyone who is going to this show, but would you any of you by any chance be driving through/by/from Akron? Looking at my options to get there and thought I'd just check here as well. Looking for a ride to and possibly back from the venue. Will be willing to split gas!

I really really wished I could've made it to this show. I mean, I've just been in the US for a year and that too in Ohio and she does THREE SHOWS here and I'm making it to only the one in Cleveland. :(. Sucks to be the expatriate! :S

But that was really awesome! Handsome got me really excited for a second there. And I have a feeling who the big magazine review is: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/albumreviews/vanessa-carlton-liberman-20151029

FINALLY GOT THE CD.

Required a bit of running around to the USPS offices yesterday but worth it.

Don't know if anyone noticed that the artwork inside (if you lift the CD) is a replica (of sorts) of the painting (by Vanessa's grandfather) but done by Jo Ratcliffe - the artist who did the album art for ROTR and this album as well.

OK. From which blessed orgasm filled bowels of this planet was that studio version of HOSS made?

I. AM. DEAD.

It's like... It's just an acoustic version. No biggie right? She can't have done anythi... What. The. What?

Also, does anyone hear a Stevie-esque voice in that version?

OK. So... I'm not the only person who pre-ordered who hasn't received any update on the status of the shipment or anything, right?

The production on this album is amazing. It's like a Hear the Bells aesthetic like HTB was the easel and she painted this album using those colors.

All the songs are listenable and some points in the production make you wanna close your eyes and just take in the moment.

I'm so proud of her.  :'(

OK. Just bought my ticket to this one and well... in my 10+ years of being a NESSAholic, this will be my first concert and I am so psyched, you have no idea.

Anyone else making it to this?

That last tweet with the Florence + The Machine video(s) is very interesting. I wonder if it's a foreshadowing of what she intends to do.

I'll explain. I had this theory when I noted that Vanessa said that she had shot two videos.

So, F+M released the music video for two songs combined in one video itself. So both "Queen of Peace" and "Long & Lost" which are two separate songs on the HBHBHB album are back to back in that 9 minute video but like... the 'story' in the video continues.

I was wondering now that Vanessa has shot two videos if this means that she could be trying to do a similar thing? Maybe its a music video for two songs but in one video itself? Or was the second video she shot the trailer? Je ne sais pas! Was just hypothesizing since Vanessa has already praised F+M's last album and she's probably inspired?

On a side note F+M's videos for their last album HBHBHB are so far amazing! I've found all of them so poetic and metaphorical... like the visual art in them is really really amazing! It would be nice to see Vanessa take a page out of them!

Song, release date, album cover  ;D

Just when the kids started to complain.

But cool. So we're back to having Vanessa on the cover. :D Minimalist. I like it. Though I hope there's some artwork. I LOVE her album artwork.

And Willows. That harmonizing. Goosebumps.

Also, is it just me or does the song have an escalating percussion beat? Not a musician so... dunno if it makes sense but like the percussion is not consistent... It seems to get faster with the song? That was interesting.
