General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / I GIVE UP!

i think vanessa is an artist like Kate Bush. they are both very individualistic and put the music first, but they both also tend to shy away from the public. Kate is now a legend, and vanessa would do better on an indie label, but that's just because of the times. it's the kind of people they are. very much into their personal lives, and emerge to make new music, but then disappear again. it's mysterious, i feel. it doesn't mean that either artist appreciates their audience less... again, it's just the kind of people they are, i believe. i don't know though. i've been with vanessa since the beginning, although i tend to not post on the boards i follow it daily, so even though i'm new to posting i'm not new to nessalicdom. maybe, also, i'm just used to kate and seeing aspects of her displayed in this situation i apply it to v. just my impression.

Kate Bush. I think I am too young to know who she is, I am not denying that she was good though. I will have a listen.

So I just listened to her.... Really? are you kidding? different taste, is she joking?

Pandora keeps offering Enya when I click on Kate Bush... Enya is INSANE

blueditty made a valid point, and did not say that their music is similar. Anyway, I suppose you could even say that some of it is- piano + unusual female vocals + a sometimes melancholy or dark twist

I also think Kate bush is amazing!
Kate seemingly went into hibernation for years between albums, and then only came into the public eye again when it was necessary to sell the music. She is a very private person.

Anyone else watch it?

I am in love with Kat Von D, she's really good, she's actually inspired me with my art, and made me consider being a tattoo artist if my projected career doesn't work out.

That's cool  8)

I already made a thread:

The problem is alot of people say I look italian, so I'm afraid by the time they are done I'll look like someone out of the "Godfather" , and other times people think I'm french and I'll end up looking like Nepolean Bonaparte or something. geesh

Yeah, the image they make doesn't just depend on you but also them!  I once received a haircut from a transexual at Supercuts in downtown San Francisco and man did I look stupid!  If I would have grown boobs and started to wear makeup it might of looked better, but that is not in any of my short term plans at the moment.  My boob job doesn't come for another 50 or so odd years.   :?

Eww.... mental images... *clutches head*

yes, making over someone to look how YOU want to look yourself is NEVER a good idea!!

i do have a good taste in clothing and fashion, i also make mistakes in it.

given that i am an actor model, i probably will have to hire one later down the road when my name gets more known, but i would rather it be a partnership in the sense that ultimately i would make the final desision.

Yeah, of course it's ultimately your decision what you wear :)
Good luck with your career. How are things going for you at the moment?
Hehe I am looking forward to being my own stylist (I'm a musician) and hoping to work with some bands in building or re-vamping their image.

got scammed last week with a fake casting call...that was interesting.

i just need to start sending stuff out everywhere.
making more copies of my headshots and i have a huge list of places.

thanks for asking :)

Oh, that's awful. Glad you're not discouraged though. Unfortunately being scammed is part of the entertainment business. My "manager" and I became close friends (or so I thought) and then straight after I lent her money she moved house and seemingly disappeared off the face of the planet. So for now I'm trusting only myself with my musical endeavors (and money). Oh man, I have stories. There was even a guy who pretended to own radio stations... (when he said he was 18 years old it kinda gave it away...HA!) I must be doing ok though, I have been asked to record a song for a charity CD here in Australia and also asked to be on another compilation for a record company in California (hmmm, hope that's not a scam...lol)

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Maggie was put to sleep today
« on: November 21, 2008, 04:13:14 am »
This is a bit off topic, but...

My mum's friend heard about someone who was moving interstate and didn't want their dog (perfectly healthy, well-behaved 9 years old) so they were getting it put down! She rung them up and said "I'm coming round to take your dog; don't try and stop me!"

I can't believe people get their pets essentially KILLED because they don't want them anymore! Why can't they at least take them to an animal shelter? Even then, if they are not sold, after a while they have to be put to sleep. I just want to encourage people to adopt from shelters/pounds if you want a pet  :D

I LOVED the Harmonium shirt that was in the online store, when I had convinced my parents to let me use their credit card so I could buy it, the online store had vanished. It had a drawing of a chandelier on it.

I still have that t-shirt.  When I bought it it was a size too small but now it fits perfectly.

*jealous*

haha, I just went to look on ebay to see if anyone was selling that shirt, and apparently one of her CDs is in the "1980s" category...
and somebody has made lots of plain black tees and hoodies with "I love Vanessa Carlton" on them, and one with "got vanessa carlton?"

okay, let me re-word that
I didnt know that vanessa was into sweats so that some sweats would be inspired by her...

Maybe it's just the 'Girls Rule' part thats inspired by V :D

"girls rule"  :? ... it sounds like something from the Kmart kids' department...

If it's inspired by Vanessa shouldn't there be some unicorn designs? What would have been cool is something with a vampire and unicorn design. (Although she doesn't write about them anymore  )
I LOVED the Harmonium shirt that was in the online store, when I had convinced my parents to let me use their credit card so I could buy it, the online store had vanished. It had a drawing of a chandelier on it. It had that vintage vibe Vanessa is a fan of.

Haha, I'm just imaging a Vanessa-inspired piano key necktie. Lol. (Anyone a fan of Zoolander?)

Would you consider hiring an Image Consultant (also known as personal stylist, personal shopper, fashion stylist etc.) to make over your wardrobe and recommend the best colours and styles of clothes and accessories (also possibly makeup and hair styles) to suit you and your body shape, colouring & lifestyle?

(I'm asking because I will be a certified Image Consultant in a few months and I am just curious about what people think of the industry and services. I haven't seen one myself but the study is interesting, challenging, in-depth and fun.)

ps - you still look skinny. Even skinny people can have a little flab, I admit I do too! It doesn't look bad though. When skinny people are really buff it kinda looks weird to me!

Thanks. I don't have as much flab as it looks like in the picture though.
I used to work out a LOT, but haven't for a while. Still in pretty good shape, but now I'm inspired to work out more again, lol. I love to dance, and do yoga, tae-bo and Jillian Michaels' workouts (she kicks your ass!!)
I love Bellydancing, and the only reason I could think of to keep my hair long was because it looks better than short for dancing (when you turn and twirl it looks good swishing around) and also headbanging (lol) but I'm not dancing professionally (yet- haha!) so I thought that wasn't enough of a reason.

i like the pic of you laying the grave, that's a cool one. :)

Aww thanks. :)
You have long hair, don't you? I like long hair on guys (generally I mean, I definitely do not include Bert McCracken from The Used -that's "Cauliflower Dick" to you if you watched The Osbournes- in that statement)
