I understand completely.  I know a few girls who really don't look anything out of the ordinary, but there's just a beauty about them I can't deny.

Do you mean that you prefer people who have a "conventional" look then? (ie. not "out of the ordinary")
I'm a bit confused

I can understand what you're saying.  The problem is that it's not fair to try to rewrite it for everybody, because it is still sacred to a number of people.

I see what your saying but it's not like they are trying to take marriage rights away from man/woman marriages...all they want is to be treated equal.  to be treated like human beings.

Yes. I don't really get the issue, it's like some people think that if gays can get married, then somehow their own straight marriage is no longer meaningful... really, marriage is meaningful because of the commitment between the couple, it doesn't become meaningful because of the marriage ceremony or the papers... your marriage doesn't become less meaningful because your sister got divorced or because someone got drunk, married and anulled in Vegas, or because the lesbians down the street got married. That shouldn't affect the sacredness of your bond. I get that some people don't understand gays... I cannot understand completely because I am straight... but I didn't choose that, I just turned out that way, just like I didn't choose my skin colour or the country in which I was born, so I don't want to judge others for something they did not choose.

I'm not going to tell anyone what to do with their own lives, but just don't try to force your opinions on me.  That's who I am, and if I can't be that, then we have a problem. :D

Do you mean you are against same sex marriage (I'm a bit confused by this thread as I don't know what the "protect marriage" thing is....)? What is your opinion?

I don't know what "protect marriage" would mean because so many straight couples get divorced...

To each his own.  Ya know, lots of people don't realize how absolutely gorgeous Vanessa is.  Nobody I know seems to think she's as stunning as I do.  But honestly, I think even V is someone who wouldn't look great with really short hair.

I haven't seen her with short hair, so I don't know, maybe it would look good.
Photoshop, anyone?

Actually I think Vanessa looks unusual (in a beautiful way... I mean she looks unique)... I think maybe lots of people think of beauty in very conventional terms and don't see the beauty in people who look unusual even though many other people think unusual people are the most beautiful, and the most interesting to look at.
(I don't mean that people who don't look unusual are not beautiful or interesting.... I hope this makes sense)

don't really hate short hair, but I just think that at least 68% of girls and women don't look their best with it. I have seen a few really cute short haircuts, but it just looks wrong on most.

 :2guns:
If i remember correctly, you made a comment about me when I first posted my pic here that wasn't complimentary... (a long time ago, something about not liking short hair on women) so I guess you must think I look "wrong".  Oh well, every person has their own opinion. Someone out there probably thinks you look wrong. Someone would think Vanessa looks wrong even though us fans in general think she looks wonderful.

i really think if you have the right facial structure, you should do it. lots of girls look good with short hair, and then some not so much. i know this one girl who had great hair when it was long, and it caught on fire, and its short and it looks great. when i modeled there were 2 girls who got their hair cut short, one already had it short, the other didn't, but they both turned out great.

its just hair, it'll grow back. :)

Her hair caught on fire!? That's awful! Was the rest of her ok? But if that hadn't have happened, she may never have tried a new style.
Yeh I agree you have to choose a style that will suit your face shape, but that applies to long styles as well, and for guys as well as girls. I think girls and guys can look great with short and long hair; it's not like I base someone's attractiveness on their hair unless they have a really unflattering style that draws attention away from their other features.

I have fairly long hair, but have had it cut short in the past- a feminine cut, like Keira Knightley had hers for the movie Domino, not a boyish style.

I'm thinking about cutting it short again because I like it, and so does my boyfriend. He actually prefers short hair, as long as it's a good style that suits girls. I'm a bit indecisive though as it takes a long long time to grow back, so I asked myspace friends their opinion (and I posted a pic here a few years back too). I got a lot of negative responses, mostly from guys! I don't understand. They act as if girls with short hair are ugly, which is definitely not the case- there are plenty of ladies who look gorgeous with short hair (like Keira Knightley). Their comments will definitely not stop me from getting it cut if I decide that's what I want to do, but it's a bit disheartening...

I'm interested to see what you think about the topic.

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Her record company

Personally I think the way they changed her songs on HAT were awful. It made a too upbeat Vanessa. I think this last record, and her personality at her concerts have really turned me off from Vanessa for a while. I mean I still support her, but her last cd sucks. The music is good, but the instrumentation, and the plastic-ness of it really took its toll - EX. HOM is upbeat, and not as emotional as it could have been. I don't know I STILL think that Harm was the best and HAT was my least favorite cd.

Hmm, I looked for an emoticon with clapping hands but there isn't one.
I agree about H&T being too upbeat in a plastic-y way. Personally I think even the songs that aren't really "upbeat" as such sound diluted and therefore bland to me.
I find H&T both cheesy and dull. I know some people find it to be excellent, but I don't. I found her music to be so interesting and full of character before and I miss it.

So what is her "personality at concerts"? (Never been to one unfortunately...)

I’m extremely dreary.  Perhaps I’m writing some positive stuff to try and prop myself up.

HA! I thought as much. Hehe.

All I have seen is a youtube clip of a male Britney impersonator. He was good!  8O It's not on TV here... we had an Australian version.

I'm a fan of Sharon  :)

As long as someone doesn't look like a heavy metal band member all the time without specifically going for that look, sure.

What KIND of metal band...?
Some wear corpse paint, some do makeup like girls, but most don't wear any makeup (assuming we're talking about men here, but girls are just as varied)....

You know early bands like Kiss or whatnot....I was just an off-the-cuff comment.  Right now to my suprise I'm noticing a few women who might look a little better with a slight use of makeup.  I don't know.  I'm just sharing my observations.

Just curious, that's all.  :)

But now I'm laughing,    imagining someone with unintentional KISS makeup...  8O  haha
Or maybe like Dee Snider (Twisted Sister)  8)

Polls / Peanut Butter
« on: August 19, 2008, 01:56:59 am »
I can't stand peanuts... or any nuts for that matter.
An American on holiday here once gave me a rees's peanut butter cup, and I didn't realize what it was... I spat it out when he wasn't looking. I can't believe how strong those things are. Also, reading about peanut butter and jelly sandwiches was always amusing when it was mentioned in kids' books, coz here "jelly" is what Americans call "jell-o", and your "jelly" is "jam" (I think... jam as in a fruit conserve/preserve), and I thought that jelly and peanut butter was the oddest combination in the world. I imagined the jelly wobbling... bizarre... then I came to the conclusion that it must have been jelly crystals (before you add water to make jelly)...lol
