We don't really know how the finalised version will sound until the album is released. But Vanessa has been doing this for awhile now. She's a smart musician. I really can't imagine her letting other people push her around and letting her music suffer as a result. That wouldn't be the Nessa we know. She had to stick to her guns to get signed in the first place, so she could be herself instead of being molded into a more formulaic pop star. I'm sure she won't change too much now. Obviously, she's growing up and will change (or "evolve") somewhat because of that , but I don't think she will "dumb down" her music or lose her edge- because her edge is what makes her special. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah, I know. I can sing it, but I just want to see her do it in a live performance, because it's so different to being in a studio, where you can record take after take.

MegJanie implied:
Quote:
Ok, all caps can be annoying

But au contraire MegJanie, Nessa happened to be very fond of CAPS LOCK herself!
Let me lead you through it:

Just to clarify...
I don't actually care whether people write in capitals, lowercase, or whatever. But I understand that some people do find it annoying to read. I simply stated that fact because I wanted to continue a discussion about the topic, not about writing in all caps- a conversation which you will find I did not start.

Oh, and my name is not "MegJanie". Where did you get that from!?

Yeah. As an artist she can express herself however she chooses, but I feel that there are enough songs in the charts about sex... most songs about sex aren't tasteful, they're nasty. I'm not a prude, I like sex, but not in a dirty way, like sleeping with lots of different people

Honestly, everyone I know here in Adelaide is over her and her music. I don't like her attitude... she thinks even her g-strings are "inspirational". I admit that she is good at singing, so I'm not saying this to insult her or her fans. I just want to know what the appeal is for you guys. I don't want to fight, I just want to know what it is about her that you still love.

Is anyone else disappointed that she doesn't hit the high note in "Don't Bother" live? It is quite high, a high E, but she can do it...

I'm not a fan of Nelly Furtado, but I always had respect for the fact that her music seemed to be more intelligent than most other songs on the charts at the time. But "Promiscuous Girl"? From the album "Loose"? WTF? I read the lyrics to that song and it is poorly written. (If you like the song, that's your choice, and I hope you enjoy it, no disrespect intended.) I just think it sounds skanky.

BTW if you're a very promiscuous girl, having sex with many, many men, you will get, er... 'loose'. Lol.

no way. the way it's overdone is not vanessa. on harmonium, the production, and whatever was added to the songs, enhanced them. this just detracts. it's overdone, and sorry, but i'm going to have to say it's perry. the other 2 tracks i've heard have the same..affliction.

Maybe it's like that to try and make it more "commercial", like other pop songs, to try to make Vanessa "successful" again. (Personally, I define her as successful, as she is doing what she loves and is exceptional at it, but I mean "successful" as in selling lots of CD's).

Ok, all caps can be annoying but I hope we can continue on with the actual topic of the thread... Out of the quotes in this thread, this one is one of my favourites:

Quote
About writing songs: "The way I write is confusing to me. I will sit down at the piano, and it's like a tide. It's very healing. I have no control over how it works. It scares me sometimes. I say things in my songs, I discover things about myself in my songs that I would have never discovered if I had never written the song. It surprises me every time."

I think it's fascinating, and I can relate to it too; I love songwriting. And of course, I love this one: (my sig... maybe that is my favourite.)

private radio is an amazing song...

i jus meant the situation is sucky...where she has to put out such songs...

I think Private Radio is a song that has great potential to be a hit, because it has a really catchy melody, and it's well-crafted, and fun to listen to.

However, I think what joey meant is that it kinda sucks that other amazing songs, for example, She Floats, just aren't seen as "suitable" singles for the market. It's unfortunate. But I guess that's the way it is. That Vanessa is capable of writing "hit"-type songs like ATM etc. and other fantastic songs like Wanted, The Wreckage etc., that aren't necessarily suitable for singles, really shows her talent and scope as a writer.

lol perhaps.... but i think removing bones from chickens is called 'boning'... i saw a job ad in the newspaper which said "boner required" at some chicken factory or something.... or maybe it was really meant to be in the personal ads... or someone wanted help for their impotence problem... lol

Creative Endeavors / does anyone have any good songwriting tips?
« on: May 14, 2006, 04:33:06 am »
That's cool. Check out Thirdmovement's thread. http://forums.nessaholics.com/viewtopic.php?t=9176 It's cool.

My songwriting tip...
in a song you can say what you want to say to someone's face but for some reason hold back. (A song that comes to mind is V's "Wanted"... she actually played the song to the guy she wrote it about, but he was stupid and didn't realize it was about him, hahaha or Kelly Clarkson's "Because of You".) You are the only person who can write that song you're trying to write. Anyone else would express it differently. You have the chance to express it your way. No one else can do that. It helps me to keep that in mind. Maybe that sounds a bit silly- but it's very important to be in the right frame of mind or you may unknowingly sabotage your chances to express yourself fully.  Let me know if this helps, anyone.

Let's hope it was something that she was mucking around with before, and it is now a complete song on her forthcoming album... could happen

You're very welcome  :D

Do you think removing the bone from the raccoon is called boning? "Darling... I was thinking of you, so I boned a raccoon..."
