General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Re: Rabbits On The Run Vinyl
« on: August 13, 2011, 12:59:29 pm »
Mine is 183/200.  Haven't played it yet, or done an A/B comparison witT the CD.  The album only runs 37/38 minutes so it should sound nice on a single LP.

I don't understand why they don't just make them as the orders come in.  ???

Vinyl isn't like, say, a CD-R.   A pressing plant makes a run of a few hundred at a time.  Same with CD's.  When you make a real CD, the plant will make no fewer than say 200 or 250; it simply isn't worth it to make less.  There are always a few extras made called "overs".

WOW. Stevie Nicks sequenced the album?  That's amazing.
Thanks for that, Let!

Just got mine at the Best Buy at 62nd/B'way.  They have the name listed as VAN CARLTON on the little plastic separators.  Awesome, Best Buy, just awesome.  3 or 4 copies there.  Way to go, R&T!!!

Music criticism used to be cool.  Somewhere along the way, it degenerated into meaningless hyperbole and half of the time it's impossible to tell whether the reviewer liked the album or not.  The other half of the time, I think they're trying to impress us with how well they use an online thesaurus.

Still, I'll take a good review.....is that what that was?  Ha ha.

That was the Saturday Morning Show that I was at.  There was no stage manager there or anything, so it wasn't obvious when they were live or not. Confusing.  But, I've worked in the industry for years and that does not surprise me.

That's also the beauty of truly live TV.

The renovated version seems like it will be a big improvement. They have drawings of what the layout will look like here:
http://www.joespub.com/content/view/546/44

I think all of it will be seated as well.

Looks pretty well thought out.  Did they get rid of the bar in the back?  Seemed like a waste.  No real place for merch, either.  Looks like that first pic is a view from the stage and the other from the seating.  If they pushed back the walls and got rid of that weird backstage area, it would be really nice.

I kinda like Joe's Pub.  Tickets are dirt cheap.  Even if you figure in minimums for food, you're still way ahead of the game, and the artist is right in front of you.  Compare what I paid to see VC with what I paid for McCartney tickets....yow!  Hurts to even sit down.

We definitely need to do a proper Nessaholic meet-up.  And not that place we went to after Sunday's show, 'cause we couldn't put tables together.  How ridiculous.  We all know that groups of people NEVER go out in the city.  ???

It's tough to do at a show.  It's usually dark and I'm hoping noone suggests name tags. Ha.

VC mentioned she's coming back in the fall...did I not see the dates or have they not been booked yet?

Come to think of it, that set-up could have been better.  You get reservations for dinner, a seat right by the stage, spend all that money, and get to watch the top of the Rhodes cabinet.  I mean, I'm 5' 11" and Vanessa looked like a floating head. That was Sunday's show.

Tonight, I was at a table in the corner and had to stand up to see her at some points.

I wonder why they didn't put the piano in the corner.  It would have given Ari and Skye more breathing room.  Also, lots of space was wasted by those huge floor monitor speakers.  I can't imagine they were needed at a low-volume gig like this where you could scare the band by cracking your knuckle.

I'll say this: being inches from the Rhodes cabinet was sublime, sound-wise.  Won't be forgetting that any time soon.

Before this thread goes any further, I must give the biggest shout-out to Let, who was cool as all heck and supplied me with a last-minute ticket.  Traffic was massive trying to get across town(I work on the West Side) and she was nice enough to leave a ticket for me at the door with my name and a nice spot at a table near the stage.  Let rocks my socks.

Also, great to see Brian, Ghisy, Nicole, and Katia!!

i was right in front of the stage.

but i had to buy a $14 cosmo.

(i'm only 18, fake id ftw)

it was really lovely. I got one of the posters, they were $30 and signed by both vanessa and the artist. i was just disappointed she didn't play the marching line as I was really looking forward to that. she messed up a few times but it's always cute when she does anyway.

I like mistakes.  They're funny and a reminder it's not some BS lip-synced show with sampled vocals.  I kidded Skye about missing the first 8th note in Nolita Fairytale.  I apologized for laughing out loud and persuaded him that I meant it in jest.  He's a cool guy.

It recently occurred to me that many Vanessa fans are also big fans of music across the board.

What other musicians/bands, etc., are you REALLY REALLY into, comparable to how much you dig Vanessa?

Here's mine, some of which eclipse my VC love:

Beatles(ALL-TIME FAVE)
Beach Boys
Rush
Marillion
Kevin Gilbert
Billy Joel
Barenaked Ladies

Those are the big ones, and don't include any jazz or classical or rap/hip-hop/dance/house music or latin.  Doesn't mean I don't like those styles of music; I'm just not a die-hard fan of any of those other artists/bands/whomever.

Balls.  I can't go, but I might go get a wristband and maybe someone else here can go.

Am I reading this right?  We have to go there TWICE?  What a pain in the Nessahole.  Still, Best Buy is one of the only places doing ANYTHING like this, so I do not want to badmouth them; they're just trying to get more people in the door more often.

Dan/NS

ha! gotta love it.  If it wasn't mandatory for my job to only have one summer vacation I think I would try to get to this..maybe I can finagle something with a shift switch.. I'll look into it when I get back, so I may take you up on the offer to get the wristband.. I'll let you know unless someone else who can FOR SURE go wants it instead.

Sara,
Not entirely sure I'm going.  If it were Lincoln Square, it would be closer to where I work and thus be easier to get to.  If there are lots of other N-Holes meeting up, it might be a nice social event.

@Martin    Best Buy isn't exactly Madison Square Garden, but if you're in the business of selling physical CD's, you could do a lot worse.  I don't think people realize just how much the business has changed.
