General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Re: Liberman

^I totally agree. I'm also still unsure why White Houses didn't do as well as I believe it should have. Perhaps because MTV banned the vid and TRL was the way for people to experience new music? In 2003/04 iTunes existed, but wasn't huge until like 2005 or so. I still remember the first time I heard WH. It was on the radio and I was struck by it. I was only 14 at the time, but I could still relate to it even then. And now at 25 it's still my most played song ever. It means so much to me and has helped me through any bad time in my life with friends or boyfriends.

I think Vanessa came out at a great time, but her singles did fit into a certain niche. Besides WH and WTS I think that Harmonium was too "dark" for the general public that listened to the radio at the time. I actually think Harmonium could be really successful if released now. I will always cherish Heroes and I cannot for the life of me not understand why Hands and The One and Fools Like Me didn't get more (if any) airplay. Maybe a generic Top 40 station wouldn't, but there are a ton of stations that would.

I think commercial success is not really in the pic for V, but I think she's realized that for a while. I also hate when I choose Vanessa Carlton radio on Pandora artists like Avril Lavigne come up.

I don't really like it either and I'm not super excited for the album since she's released so many of the songs. Can't wait to see her live, but I think my excitement for new albums died with Heroes and Thieves.

I'll be there! I've had to drive four hours to Chicago the last four times I've seen her so I'm ecstatic she'll be just an hour away.

I really like Willows. It sounds like an Harmonium song and I must say I have always been in love with this album so it is a guilty pleasure to ear a song in the same vibe. The lyrics are very different however.

I also like the album cover even if I had rather have a more colorful cover.  Ya I have exactly the same feeling she looks like a dreamy creature, an elf from Lord of the rings.

Still waiting for the final tracklist now !

Totally agree. The piano reminds me of HAWBTW. I've been listening to Harmonium on repeat lately and Willows is making me excited.

Okay I know the lyric vid is official, but some of the lyrics on the vid don't sound like what she's saying.

Just listened to FWF at the Hollywood Cafe from a few years back. I think what I miss the most about her old stuff is the passion. Like I know this is her dream record and I'm proud of her and do like her new stuff, but I miss when she would almost yell the songs sometimes. It seemed so much more real. I know dreamy and ethereal is her goal, and it's beautiful, but I've been listening to Harmonium and her demo tape nonstop recently.

I don't know why I feel like Liberman has Stephen Jenkins written all over it. I'm sure it's because he's really the only public relationship she's ever had, but knowing a lot of Heroes and Thieves and Fairweather Friend was about him, some of these songs remind me. Like Blue Pool, NWSUTB, and now this. Just like a deep retrospective album of a past relationship. It's probably about many different people (real and not) but I keep going back to Jenkins.

Also--in the new YouTube version which sounds like the studio version she says

"Guns ain't just for boys".

And I'm with you Joey--it's very sexy and I too am waiting for a moment for me when it all clicks. Cannot stop listening
