Entertainment - Movies / TV / Books / Billy Elliot
« on: December 29, 2003, 09:00:25 am »
I searched, and was shocked to find no thread for our Billy!!

I can honestly say Billy Elliot is one of, if not the best film i have ever seen. It was a suprise hit here a few years ago, i have yet to meet anyone who doesn't like it.

Its about a boy who grows up in the North of England during the Miners' strikes and discovers that he can dance- and he's bloody amazing! His teacher wants him to try out for The Royal Ballet but his family won't let him, basically because they're nothern men- and they can't cope because Billy's mum has died. lol, i adore this film, its not too soppy that you won't believe it, you can really feel the twinge of real life but its not too gritty that it doesn't have a happy ending.

All in all its THE BEST (and Tatiana likes it, so i must be right)! And if you can't get it there i will send you all videos of it, lol. Oh and The Royal Ballet building he goes to is my mum's old school, another reason you MUST see it, hee hee.

Polls / Breakfast: A Thrilling Insight
« on: November 27, 2003, 11:38:08 am »
I have always found that no matter what country i go to- breakfast is always the meal that varies the most.

When i went to Italy, my exchange partner made herself a cup of tea every morning, poured cornflakes in and drank it that way! They also had the most gorgeous toasted sandwiches, and they laughed at me when i asked for a bowl with my cereal. When i went to America all you guys seemed to eat was bagels, bagels and yet more bagels!

Ooh dear, so the million pound question is-

What do you eat for breakfast?

P.S- if there is already a thread on this, i don't care! Answer anyway!

FAQ / Board Issues / Baffled by Smileys
« on: October 27, 2003, 12:49:39 am »
In my increasing use of the wonderful world of smileys i have noticed something:

they dall dance and jiggle and show off, but once you select one- they stop it! What if i want to select another one but on the basis of their dancing!? Its not a one smiley show!

okay okay, i don't actually expect anything to be done about this- i just thought it was kinda weird! haha

Other Musicians / Something fishy going on...
« on: October 19, 2003, 07:25:18 am »
Okay, Something veeery strange seems to be going on. With this whole American Idol/Pop Idol thing going on, it has proved to me even more what a corrupt industry the music business is.

Clay has a song called 'Invisible', am i right? Well how very strange that a band here called 'D-Side' sing the exact same song. They must know forewell that Clay will never try and break England with that song, so they use it for two artists.

Ruben sings a song called 'Flying Without Wings', am i right? Well that song was first sung by a boy band called Westlife here, that never really made it big in America.

Straaange, no? Its not even like Clay's song is a cover, because D-side only released it about 2 months ago! Ooooh its all very weird.

What does everyone else think about this recycling of songs!?

Completely Off-Topic / A Question...
« on: October 11, 2003, 08:07:15 am »
This is something that has been bugging me for so long now, so i figured someone would have the answer.

Why do, in american magazines/newspapers/any american writing when they quote someone they always add in [something else]- like that? I know that sometimes you add in brackets when you take words out of context in a quote, but this never seems to apply!

I am going to try and find some examples, but please help me! It is annoying me so much!

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Vanessa with Rufus Wainwright (Pics)
« on: September 20, 2003, 12:09:29 pm »
Shades posted these on the other boards and i didn't think they had been posted here. The outfit she's wearing just doesn't seem to be very Vanessa. Does anyone else know what i mean? I don't think she'd voluntarily want to show that much chest!! Agree, disagree? Can't stop drooling at the teeeny pics? lol

That has loads of pics, of course, but they are teeny. It looks like she went to pretty much every day of fashion week! lmao. She has to have got a new stylist, she is looking so amazing! (except in those pics, hee hee)

Completely Off-Topic / *Happy Birthday Nerea!*
« on: August 05, 2003, 02:36:51 pm »
Well Nerea i have known you for over a year now and what an absoloute pleasure its been. We've been through tears and laughs (haha, plenty of both) but each time i know i've come out of the situation a better person because of you. It feels like we were just supposed to know each other and its always so nice to know that no matter where you are, or what language you speak you'll always run into the same situations again and again.

So happy birthday Nerea, 19 will be the best year yet. Lots and lots and lots of love sis,

Rosie :)

Hey again everyone, i missed you all (i've been on holiday!). In about week i go to New York and i have a number of questions which i would really appreciate some help with:

1. Where's the best shopping? And how much do things on average cost- for instance a normal T-shirt- how much would that cost?

2. How hot is it usually? What is the weather like in general?

3. What the hell do you do if you're not 21!? I mean, can't you go and hang out in bars for an evening drink? Are there no places like pubs?   :?

4.Where the hell am i gonna meet all of you guys on the 10th!? We arrive at 12:30 so it would be just lovely to go for an evening meal with all of you- if the jet lag isn't slowly killing me!! PM me!

Thanks so much, love you all!!

Completely Off-Topic / Does anyone have Ghis' Number? (Help Nerea!)
« on: July 12, 2003, 01:05:34 am »
Nerea has just phoned me in a complete panic. She is meeting Ghis today and has left her phone at her residence and they had only vaguely agreed a time, and to meet at the train station! But there are two train stations in Lyon!

ANYONE who knows someone who has his number, or if you have it yourself- please please PM me, otherwise they will be wandering around a town they don't know not being able to find each other! Thankyou so much,

Rosie :)

Completely Off-Topic / The Leavers' Ball (pictures! hee hee)
« on: June 28, 2003, 10:27:07 am »
Sorry this is so long, just look at the pics if you want (i'm really sorry they are so bloody huge aswell!!) lol, you can get a reaaally long description at: http://www.livejournal.com/users/rosieposy87

Getting Ready: I had got ready, the girls from next-door had done my hair and make-up and Adam called me while my hair was being done asking me how i was etc which was really sweet- i was feeling great.

Then my mum took about a million and a half pictures and i got rather annoyed. I waited for a while downstairs and then *ding dong* the doorbell rang and it was Adam! hee hee, we had loads of photos and it was so sweet because i could tell he was shaking! And the sweetest thing was he gave me a bunch of roses- my mum cried, as usual!

Outside my house:

The car we went in was a ROLLS ROYCE CONVERTIBLE! ooh and i got a corsage too! wow, that was even sweeter!

The Drive: Halfway through Adam said "By the way, you look so amazing" and i was stunned! Then we drove up to the school gates and EVERYONE was waiting because so many people come in amazing cars. There were loads of people taking photos and this lady from the local paper took our picture and asked for our names!

The Ball: We lingered around for a while with everyone then Adam asked if we should go inside so we linked arms and walked into this huge marquee walkway and we queued to have our picture taken, then he said "so do you wanna go in?" so we walked in to the hall  and we ended up walking in holding hands which i wasn't expecting but it was so cool anyway!

The Beggining:I started dancing immediately and Adam kinda hung back with his friends. So i boogied for a while with all my friends and sometimes Adam came to dance with me and i danced with all of his friends, they are so funny.

Me and All my friends:

The Middle: It was then time for the Teachers' Cabaret, the whole way through that Adam has his arms around my waist.

We danced some more, had some more photos, and then there were speaches and then it was time for one more song.I SO thought it was going to be a slow song, but UGH it wasn't and i was so offended! However, it was Oliver Cheetah and Room 5-Make Luv which was not only such a huge song here but i know Adam loves it so i went to find him and i kept thinking "do this now or you'll regret it, do it!!" so i put my arms around his neck and we danced for a teeny bit, but that song isn't good for that kinda dancing and what got me down was that he wasn't reciprocating- i was so sad about that.

The End: Then i went to get my bag and everything and he came over and we hugged and i thanked him for everything.

Well, i really really enjoyed myself but i was so sad that nothing more happened. Actually i think i had built up this scenario so much in my head that i was SURE that something was going to happen, and i was so upset. But really i think i did so well, and now i'm so happy with how it went- its like a whole different level now. I regret constantly looking around for Adam the whole time but there's nothing i can do now.

Me and Debs after The Ball at hannah's house:

I need your opinions! Do you think i was right to make a move? Why didn't he reciprocate in the dancing thing!? I need your overall opinions, thankyou!

Rosie :)

Completely Off-Topic / 'I Need Advice'- the Return!
« on: June 25, 2003, 07:25:57 am »
Right, well i figured Holly's thread worked so fantastically well last time that i'd start another one because i need your help!

The Problem: This guy Adam asked me to the Leavers' Ball (alright alright, prom!) way back in October and ever since then its been a road of crap and greatness and now the Ball is on friday. I am SO nervous its quite unbelieveable!!He spoke to my best friend and told her he really really liked me and i think he would be a bit of an idiot not to notice my undying love- lmao.

This has been building up for so long that i don't know whether i have just made up in my head the scenario that 'something is going to happen'. And what if he doesn't make a move? Please HELP!- confusion is majorly striking!

Completely Off-Topic / The Mets vs The Giants?
« on: June 16, 2003, 10:11:23 am »
I was wondering if any of you yanks (oh and Ghis, lol) could help me out? When me and my family go to New York we have booked a box at The Mets vs The Giants.

Are these teams big? or are the Mets like the crap second rate version of NYC's baseball team? Any information (and advice on cool things to do in NYC!) would be greatly appreciated!

Other Musicians / World Recommendations
« on: May 29, 2003, 02:45:59 am »
Well recently Nerea has introduced me to so much spanish music i had no idea existed, and it made me think- there are hundreds of countries in the world yet we rarely hear music from anywhere but America and our own country.

I'm not saying thats a bad thing, i'm saying it would be great to hear some artists from all over the world that are big in your country: whether they sing in english or not.

Post them here- even if they're just one off songs that you love. My first recommendation is: Misteeq- Scandalous

Rosie :)
