Oh and one last thing, I HATE Stevie in the vocals! Arrrggh she sounds so low and croaky and clashes with Vanessa's voice. And Stevie does sound like a dying water buffalo... lol (that's a quote from someone else..)

And unfortunately My Chemical Romance came up with the "soldier marching theme" first, otherwise More than This would have been the PERFECT song. It's still awesome

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Spring Street.....and the new album

To be honest I'm not sure that this album IS Nessa's best work.. Like don't get angry at me its just my opinion, but the whole reason I loved Nessa in the first place was cause I love Classically based music, and I loved how she was so creative not just with words but rhythms and styles too. All her old stuff, especially the B-sides and many off Harmonium like Papa, were all amazing songs that were so original compared to ANYTHING else out there. She has to be the only performer who can play just her and the piano and still sound complete.
With Heroes and Thieves this isn't the case. It needs the back up vocals, the drums, the orchestral arrangements and the layers. I'm just not sure she has stuck to who she is, or whether she is sacrificing her style for the sake of commercial success? Thats not to say I think that's wrong, its all about different priorities. But If you guys listen to Other Linda Perry songs- many of Christina Aguilera's songs are written by her. You can hear the EXACT same construction techniques. Simple compositional techniques like not straying from a key, sticking to simple triad chords (major or minor) modulation, 1st-5th and 7th chord progressions etc. Very "modern" But NOT avante garde or original. Vanessa's new album is very beautiful in its honesty, and I think it will do well. But only because it's content is aimed for those with a limited musical palette. Notice how it's labelled as "Pop"?
I just feel that creatively, Vanessa showed SO much more variety of styles and ideas in her old stuff! Compare Red Ditty, Papa, A Thousand Miles, Unsung, Prince, Birdie, and Twilight. All very different from each other. But to me, The One, This Time, and Home are all very similar. Don't get me wrong I love her stuff! I just think maybe she gave up on her old stuff because people "didn't like it"
So sad....

Anyway just my piece ^_^ Hopefully no one takes offense to this. 8O
And this isn't a dig! I'm just disagreeing with those who think that this is her best album..

Dosn't this song remind you guys of that Chemical Romance one- They have the whole "marching band soldier theme" to it. You know, with the chanting voices and everything. I love it though, its my second favorite on the album- second to Fools Like Me.

I am posting a tutorial for Home tomorrow or the next day, (before the end of the week) and it includes the end of the studio version. Here's what she plays in short:
the left hand is the same, with the right hand playing the melody as well as an arpeggio. Goes from D,B,G, to E,A,C, to C,A,F (not quite in that order) and then ending on the C Major chord without the third. (So no E) And yea, the simple way of me explaining this is on the tutorial lol

Oh and Im doing Best Behavior....

Hmm I have to say isn't it amazing how similar Vanessa sounds live and on the album versions. That's quite a feat! To sound as good and accurate live compared to on the album!
Does the end section of Home, remind anyone of Where the streets have no name........? I thought that was interesting.. Some parts of other songs have the same notes/chords/rhythms as her older stuff. Like in ummm I think its Come Undone (or is it Spring Street?) There's a similar pattern that sounds like the bridge of Who's To Say, except in a different key.
I think, whoever did that transcription of Home, forgot the extra riff at the end! Just a note ^_^

Yep just adding my bit. I would love a transcription to More than This....

Hey...i was just wondering if someone has time to start making new sheet music for these songs...
for Best Behavior..i think the sheet music we have now the chorus is wrong...
for the one, it is now in d major, and some of it has been changed...
for nolita fairytale, what we have is pretty accurate, but the opening piano intro i think is missing a few thingss...as well as the bridge..

if anyone could start working on these id greatly appreciate it
if you do start working on one, please post, and update us with your progress

I agree about Best Behavior, its pretty much the right chords but the notes are wrong. I have figured it out. Reckon I have it 95% accurate! Im posting it soon this week on my youtube site as a tutorial. would you prefer the sheet music?

Ok as I speak (or rather, type) the tutorial is uploading so within the hour it will be up and this is 10 o'clock on Monday here in NZ so yea. I finished it, in two parts, the simple way and the actual version. No doubt there will be a note here and there that could be changed but it sounds good and you can listen to me playing and singing the simple version too!

Yes! Oh my gosh i know! Its so hard to find examples of her songs, especially the instrumental parts etc. Dont worry, I will put all the songs up and tutorials. It is actually a lot of work now that you mention it, but I like to finish what I start, so this my most recent project.  
And yea, Its SO good to know people like you guys appreciate it, as most people on youtube dont quite understand the effort involved- some people are so demanding! lol
But thats alright, and yea, I can't wait to post Fools Like Me either!!

Introduce Yourself / Hi Im new and Im here to help with sheet music!

Hello!  
My name's Katherine and I have been a secret fan of Nessa for SOOooo long now- at least 5 years- but I only just joined. Im from NZ and I love my fish, my chickens and painting, and mainly fashion. I love to play and sing every one of Nessa's songs, and Im working on transcribing all her new ones for y'all!
I have a site on Youtube to help those with tutorials etc, just so you know, and yea. I decided to join because i figured i might as well talk with like-minded people who love Nessa too and appreciate the work involved with transcribing and helping out with sheet music!
 
But yea, so everyone who loves Nessa can go have a look at my site, there are tutorials for one and all! and let me know what songs you want, and what tutorials. I reply very quickly and I will send sheet music from Be Not Nobody to all those that want it!
