Polls / Will Britney Spears pull herself together?

Where's the "I don't really care, I just wish she'd get off my TV" option?  I can't even watch CNN anymore without seeing her meltdown make BREAKING NEWS...what the fuck?

Yeah... Well, I do hope that she'll get better, just because I hope everyone gets better, but I hate that she's getting so much attention.. I hate that Britney/Paris/Lindsey/whatever 'trendy' celebrity that can't get their shit together(/put underwear on) gets all this attention. I check my news on cnn.com, and there is almost always something about one of these girls, taking up valuable news space...
I mean, how many people actually know what's going on in Kenya right now? I understand why the rest of the world is so frustrated with us, we are more interested in what these girls are doing, rather than the people that are dying.

(ps, not an attack on anyone who is posting, just a general thought)

Polls / Do you think creationism should be banned in schools?
« on: January 03, 2008, 10:27:15 pm »
Today, I was watching ABC news and they were talking about banning schools from teaching about creationism and all the stuff that goes along with that.

I'm personally for banning it. I don't think that we should teach religious stories as scientific facts. Well, I guess I don't mind if evolution is also taught, then it's more fair. But then we should account for other religious and cultures and their creation stories (however similar or different). This most likely won't happen, and I sincerely doubt that they would cover all creation stories, and defiantly not with respect and sincerity that they deserve. I will vote for teach everything because I know that it would be a problem only teaching the two, because then you are excluding people who possibly have different beliefs! Actually, that would make an awesome class (I'm thinking college level though).

Also, what were you taught? I come from a small, conservative Christian farm town. I honestly don't remember being taught either way, but that's in part because everyone just ''knew'' that God created everything in 7 days.

Please don't start an immature fight, intelligent conversation is welcome from all sides!

Polls / I support Gay rights. Do you?
« on: January 03, 2008, 10:18:46 pm »
Wow, I've never heard of the argument. Not that it changes my mind, but you know, something new to think about. It's always good to know what the opposition is thinking.

Today, I was watching ABC news and there were talking about how schools handle creationism vs evolution. They were trying to ban creationism in schools (which I am personally for). What were you guys taught?

Hold on, I feel this should be a new poll.

Completely Off-Topic / It's finally snowing!
« on: January 02, 2008, 09:04:57 pm »
I did make a snowman the other day with my grandma. It was awesome packing snow. Now it's all dry, light snow... Won't pack for anything, and it's drifting like crazy.

Finally? Where I live, it's like the 3rd biggest snowfall in history in December!
We have a good 6-8 inches in places.

Polls / War in Iraq

Why is "don't care" an option?  That's fucking insane.  Read a little and understand how if affects you and generations to come.

Well said. I think the "I don't care" should be "undecided"... At least that's showing that thought is going through people's heads.

Anyway.... I was very against this war when it began... However, we are in the middle of it. I think we need to finish it in the near future, but we must not pull out as quickly as possible... We do NOT want Iran to get involved with our Iraq mess, or will we all be dead in 5 years.

Polls / Clinton or Obama?

why does everyone hate hillary?

I think people hate her for a couple of reasons.
1. She's married to Bill. Some people just can't get over Bill having the whole Monica thing so she's guilty by association.

Sadly, that's true... and yet so funny.... She's guilty because her husband cheated on her? lolz for real.

I don't know why people hate Hillary either... It's quite annoying, at least the people who I argue with that show no reason.

I haven't picked... Although I'm a democrat, I'm thinking of voting Republican in the primary.... I think Obama and Clinton are both alright, and if I vote republican, I have a say to which way they are going.... liberal or conservative republican. I'm honestly more concerned for what way the republican party is going. I do NOT want to go conservative, or they will make the last 8 years look like a party.

I'm in Illinois, so there is Obama craze. He seems cool. The thing I HATE is when they say he doesn't have experience - I think this could be a benefit, because perhaps (just maybe) he hasn't been corrupted by the political system already. Anyway, every president has the best of the best advisors anyway, and they'd tell him what to do practically anyway.

Either way, I'm happy minority candidate are out in the front for president!  (although that won't influence my vote, as it shouldn't ANYONES, because we should be voting on platform, not superficial details)

Polls / Sex before Marriage
« on: January 02, 2008, 07:27:41 pm »
I'm not religious (in the conventional way), but marriage has a deep meaning for me... Saying that you will stick by someone throughout whatever crap happens, and that you will love them unconditionally. Obviously, this doesn't always happen, but it's what to strive for.

I used to think that people should always wait before marriage (I was brainwashed)... But then I fell in love.
Anyway, I think people should have premarital sex if they want to.. I don't see anything wrong with it, as long as people are smart about it (which, of course, they won't be.) I think you should have sex with someone once both of you want to, you love each other, and you honestly think you have a good shot of making a relationship work. I don't think anything else is required.. Although I hate age limits, I really don't think anyone under the age of 17 can really make that strong of a commitment. Who knows though, everyone has a different maturity level.

I HATE abstinence-only sex ed. It's what I was taught in my high school, and that would explain why so many girls my age (19) and younger have gotten pregnant. Birth control isn't explained, it's just "Don't do it". There are many studies that prove the worthlessness of abstinence only sex ed, and how a comprehensive sex ed actually raises the age of first sexual experience... It's so dumb that the (American) government just throws millions at abstinence only sex ed...

I also hate the religious argument. In the times of the bible, kids (I stress kids) were getting married at much, much younger ages than people are these days... So the 'no sex before marriage' thing wasn't so hard., as people were getting married in some cases when they were first sexually maturing.

Here's an interesting article for you... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16287113/

Anywho, slightly on a tangent, but it's all good.

Other Musicians / Reccomend me a new artist or 3...
« on: January 02, 2008, 01:33:22 pm »
WANTED: A new artist(s?) for me to listen to.

Vanessa-like... I would prefer it to have decent piano music, possibly with any classical instrument. Doesn't matter if it's a guy or girl.

I like... Vanessa (obviously). I like some Ben Folds, but he sometimes annoys me with all his cussing... I don't mind cussing, unless it's in excess where it's not necessary. I think my favorite songs by him are "Zak and Sara" and "Landed". I used to kind of like Michel Branch, but I hear she's headed country. Oh well, never a huge fan. I semi-like Graham Colton. However, a lot his music seems to sound the same... It's okay, he's new. I do like "Forget About You". I liked Sara Bareilles's "Love Song", but I barely enjoyed the rest of the cd. I liked old school Nelly Furtado. I've been trying out Regina Spektor, but I haven't made a full decision on her. I'm leaning towards no..

Can be upbeat or not... Poppy is okay, as long as the artist has more than just that... Variety is good. I don't care if they are popular or not, and I don't care what era. I have tended to like single artists as opposed to bands, but if they are good, I don't care. However, bands I have liked include (old) Goo Goo Dolls, Yellowcard, (a little) Coldplay.

I do NOT like R&B, rap, or extremely twangy country. I like music where people sing... Sounds funny to say, but I guess one must specify these days.

Anyway, I have been searching for a few months, but I just cannot find anything. (Why can't there be more Vanessas out there?)
Please help me! Thank you.
(yes, x posted, but I figure I'd get a bigger span of people.)

yeah! i think she's aware of that... our nessa knows better:)

That's what I thought about Danielle Fishel, and some other celebs who have gotten DUI's recently. Let's hope Vanessa doesn't make the same mistake they did.

As an avid BMW fan, I was really sad about that... :(

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Censoring of White Houses

That article talks about it briefly.

I think it's insane. I remember watching the premier and saying "WHAT?" Especially compared to all the booty shaking, smacking bitches music that there is out there.
I understand censorship. However, I think it actually brings more problems to the table. Because it was censored and made to be a big deal, people actually found out what it means and such... thus bringing more attention.  Most people wouldn't have thought twice about it. But whatever, it was good publicity for V.

Completely Off-Topic / JAIME LYNN SPEARS IS PREGNANT
« on: December 20, 2007, 11:13:40 pm »
I feel really bad for her. It must be hard to deal with an unplanned pregnancy at a young age anyway, but to think that she has to deal with all the media talking about it and her sex life...
I really wish the media would leave her alone. I mean, it's a great conversation opener if you want to talk to your kids about sex, but seriously... I know the news channels have bigger things to cover.

Moogs21, is that Drew Barrymore in your avatar?! WOW!

She's MY favorite actress in the whole wide world :)

I got an autographed picture of her, seriously :)

Haha, yes. When I was semi active on this board, years ago, I was really into Ever After. I've just never changed it. I like her as an actress too, I think she's almost always on!

It's a hater blog anyway, I don't know why people are taking it so seriously... Honestly, they were 'nice' to her considering how they rip on other celebrities.
There will always be haters... And in my opinion, at least her name is out and they know who she is. You can't like everyone.
Read it for comedy...

Live Shows / 11/18/2007: Park West - Chicago, IL (review)

I didn't get to meet her afterwards :(. I live four plus hours away, and the weather was getting bad (where I live). I was REALLY sad, but I understood that we needed to get driving. How long did you have to wait anyway?
HOPEFULLY next time she comes around, it's in the summer too... I can't believe how cold you guys must have been waiting around for her!
