I’m on this flight from LAX,
I scramble quick to read your text
Before my phone is forced to quit,
And then I have to face this shit.

“Goodbye” is never fun to say,
But I have never felt this way –
I feel like I have left behind
A part of me, so intertwined.

Now I’m Pacific Ocean blue,
Bluer than I thought I knew;
I’ll listen to these songs so black,
But know that they won’t take me back.

I sit here, helpless, on a plane,
These feelings hard to just contain –
I never thought I’d grow so close
To people who now seem like ghosts.

This plane will land somewhere and then
I’ll go back home, and once again
I’ll think of you and what you did
To bring out things which I had hid;

And then in me a thought will grow –
The thought that I may never know
Your touch again, the touch that healed
And good abstruse in me revealed.

And purple now does me amaze,
The purple of the skies ablaze
And of the flowers in the court
At our petite west-coast resort.

I’d live through smog and sweat and pain
To spend a day with you again –
To spend a day with anyone
That changed my life below the sun.

Although Pacific Ocean blue,
I feel a light pervade the dew
Because, although they’re miles away,
They are a part of me each day.

Live Shows / 8/5/2008: 20th Cent. Theatre; Cincinnati, OH (review)

Hey, so I went and saw Vanessa on Tuesday night at the 20th Century Theatre opening up for Joshua Radin and she did a wonderful job! I don't know about her other dates, but she was using like 4 members of Joshua's band. She had a guy doing percussion on three or four songs, she had the bassist play upright on four songs or so, she had Joshua's guitarist play on most of the songs and she also had Laura Jensen (the very "hot" Laura Jensen, as she said) sing backup vocals on "The One". I definitely wasn't expecting to hear, like, a full band-sounding version of "White Houses" or "Heroes and Thieves" but it was really cool!

Joshua did a great job as well. He's an Ohio boy, so he had a pretty good turnout. I like his music and I thought he did well. Alexa Wilkinson was very impressive. She did a great job and we talked after the show about chord progressions and Scarlett Johansson's album and other musical things. She was really down to earth and nice.

Vanessa, of course, didn't come out and greet her fans. I'm getting the sense that she's a bit of a diva or something. The lady who worked the merch table said that she never comes out. If anyone actually reads this, I know I'll get shit for it, but whatever. Her performance was incredible, so I can't complain about that. It was 45 minutes of amazing musicianship and her connection with the audience was just great. She said that it was one of her "most favorite" shows and that she has really enjoyed this tour. "Home" was just plain old moving and it was cool to hear Laura Jensen on "The One".

I'll post pictures when my friend Alicia uploads them. I forgot my camera. Sorry it took so long to actually post this. My last two days have been busy as hell.

So I wrote this poem today and I was curious as to what you guys thought. I don't really write poetry (I write songs, but that's quite different), but this one sort of flowed from my fingers.

This is not love, I know that much;
For it does seem to manifest
An innate need for human touch
And self-perception not it’s best.

I saw thee amble up the stair,
Direct attraction I did feel -
Thy golden legs and golder hair
The center of thy pure appeal.

But seeing thee disparate is
From knowing thee, or touching thee;
This self-imposed forbiddingness
Will take its toll, increasingly.

This is not love, for love is kind
And cozy in its soft repose;
These notions filling up my mind
Reflect not love, but all my woes.

Live Shows / 10/18/2007: Madison Theater - Covington, KY - Bosom Ball

So Vanessa announced back in August that she would be doing the Bosom Ball, which is a Breast Cancer benefit that Q102 (our local radio station) does. Unfortunately for me, it's 21+, but I just talked to one of the DJs about maybe showing up for sound check and get a chance to talk to her. He said that they have, in previous years, had a little mini-show before the actual show for underage people. So that might happen. We'll see. I just figured that since it is a show, it ought to be posted on the forum.

I was watching True Music with Katie Daryl and I discovered yet another indie band that I know I will love. Before it was Stephen Kellog and the Sixers (sk6ers), now its Grace Potter and the Nocturnals (gpnals?). I love her song "Nothing But the Water" and I am going to go out and buy her latest album tomorrow.

Ok so here's the deal, I just listened to the song "My Fave" on Gwen Carlton's myspace and it's the same song Vanessa Carlton plays in PTMY.  Around 2:52 she plays a little clip of it, and I was wondering what song that is? Does anybody know?

Live Shows / 8/9/2007: Bar Louie - Newport, KY (review)

Hey, everyone!

Sorry it took so long. The thing was at noon. After the whole deal, my friend Yazzy (who I took) and I went and saw Hot Rod. It was good, nothing great.

Anyway, so... the show/meet and greet/lunch! It was really fun, but a lot shorter than I was hoping it would be. Anyway, so I decided to take my friend Yazzy. She has now vowed to go buy HaT on October 9th (V confirmed the date... I know there were people here saying it wasn't definite or something). So we got to Bar Louie and I was really excited and nervous and was seemed like the only one there who know who Vanessa was (besides Yazzy). I had a seat right by the keyboard.

So we're sitting there and I'm looking around and there's V giving an interview across the bar. I'm officially getting fanboy-y on her. They gave us sheets of paper and we could write three questions on there. Anyway, I was having trouble picking questions. I used two of Yazzy's three, haha. So then Brian Douglas, one of the DJs from Q102, introduces her and she comes down and I say, "Please play 'Fools Like Me'" and she smiled at me.

So she didn't play "Fools Like Me". They allowed her to do three songs. She started off with "Hands on Me" and it was awesome. Yazzy was very moved, she started to cry. It just felt surreal that V was right there performing one of my favorite songs. So they get to the Q&A thing. They ask Yazzy's one question, which was "Where do you get the inspiration for your songs?" Yazzy was mad that they asked it, she thought it was a dumb question. Then they read one of my questions, the least important of my 5: "When you go on tour, can you promise to come to Cincy?" Anyway, so she definitely is coming in to do a show for the Q102 Bosom Ball, which is a breast cancer benefit.

So she starts off with ATM. After the intro she stops to scratch her nose and re-enters with "making my way downtown...." (down down?) I got some video of this. Everyone in the place recognized it and was happy that she did it. I wanted "Fools Like Me". But I am in no way bitter. After ATM, they asked her some question which led to her talking about Stevie, which segwayed (sp?) into "Nolita Fairytale", which was awesome. I can't wait to hear this song with a full band, it's going to be great. After that (or maybe before...), they asked the question "If you could have any superpower, what would it be?" So she starts talking about how she would make a "powder... or no, a pill" which would make her say the right thing, because she gets into a lot of foot-in-mouth situations. Then she said, "Or no, a pill that would make me disappear. Wow, I'm talking alot about pills." She clarified that she was not into pills. Always good to know.

So after that, they formed a makeshift cue for people to get autographs and pictures. Yazzy and I went first, so I'm standing there, nervous as hell. I walked up and said that I joined the O-Board in August of 2002. She said, "Wow." And I had her sign my copy of Harmonium and a picture for my sister. I really had a lot to ask her, but I felt really condensed and really weird because I was the only fan there. I then said that I had recorded a cover of "Ameriteen" and she said, "Yeah, I remember that I wrote a song called 'Ameriteen'" and she gave me permission to put it my album, which was exciting. Then I asked her if "My Best" and "Best Behavior" were the same song and she said that they weren't and that "Best Behavior" would not be on HaT. Sorry, guys. I didn't get to ask her about "All Is Well".

Somewhere in there, I don't know the sequence of events (it was all a blur ), V played the intro to "Fools Like Me" which was really awesome. We got a picture with her, which will supposedly be on the Q102 website. I'll post the pic when they put it on there. The people who were running seemed irritated by my taking "so long", they told everyone else to make it quick. But I was the only superfan there, so fuck them. It kinda pissed me off, cause they were making us hurry so that they could all take pictures with V and sit down and eat lunch with her. Really annoying.

So she went over and sat down (was surrounded by, actually) a bunch of Q102 people that I don't think she wanted to be around. Yazzy had a good view and she said that she looked like she was bored as hell. Oh well. It was a short encounter, but it was REALLY awesome.

OK, so I'm a member of Cincinnati's Q102 Rewards and I just NOW found out about a special offer for Rewards Members for a private mini-concert, lunch, and meet-and-greet with V in Newport this Thursday. I am convinced that I am going to be there. There's one ticket available for 300,000 points (I have about 280,000 , and there's an auction, which is currently at 220,000. I just registered with the auction and am waiting for the e-mail telling me I've been outbid. I'm so damn worried that I'm not going to get a ticket. This would be the best day of my life if I got the chance to go...

Anyway, if I get to go, I'll post pics and review here. Here's to hoping I'll get lucky.

Michael Bay made a reaaally good movie here. I just got back from the theater and it was awesome. If you're looking for high-quality film-making, go to your art-house theater. But if you want pure summer action, then Transformers is the movie that Spidey 3 and Pirates 3 and Live Free and Fantastic Four wanted to be. It's hilarious, but it doesn't interrupt the action like the comedy did in Spidey 3. It's got amazing visual effects. The cast is loaded, and I mean loaded.

Go see it. Period.

Can't believe that there isn't a thread for the greatest singer-songwriter to ever grace this earth. Her music is timeless and her songs are gorgeous. Please tell me I'm not the only person obsessed with her?

Listening to her interviews on BBC Radio 2 right now with Amanda Ghost. She's got a new album called "Shine" coming out later this year and it's goint to be amazing.

THIS SHOW IS FREEKING RIGGED! AS A MEMBER OF CLUB HUD AND A JENNIFER SUPPORTER IN GENERAL I AM BOYCOTTING THIS SHOW. It was obvious how they set it up that this show is a sham. They don't do groups with 7 people left, and they put the best 3 in the bottom 3 to get better ratingd, to get more attention, and honestly, it will only lose them viewers by getting rid of Jen. She was amazing, and is going to be a great artist. I have to go, bye!

I had heard of hear from Perez Hilton. When her CD "Back in Black" started making Best of 06 lists, I downloaded it (cause it hasn't been released in the US yet). I love it! What a great voice. Any Brits on the forum like her?

I saw this tonight in a sold-out theater. One of, if not the, funniest movies I have EVER seen. My abs hurt from laughing. It's absolutely grotesque, offensive, and hilarious.

Someone HAD to make a thread. I saw it tonight in a crowded theater. It was the most fun I've ever had at the movies. Everyone go see it with a big crowd, it's TOO much fun. We were clapping whenever someone killed a snake or Samuel L. Jackson said "motherfucker". It was amazing.
