yeah...i get ur point...but still we dont say bad things abt Stevie now do we?  :?

Are you kidding? When H&T came out this board was flooded with people saying that her vocals on The One were terrible and that they ruined the song and that she sounded like a goat, etc. etc. etc.

People are allowed to not like Vanessa and I think what that poster on Stevie's board did was nice.

I was in Kohls yesterday and there was her poster up, with a bunch of flowy, Bohemian tops. Eh, publicity is publicity.

wooh! I like it, almost Shakesperean with the iambic beats. good job!  :D

Thanks for noticing the iambic beats. That was the hardest part of writing it. I try to stick faithfully to iambic pentameter/quatrameter/etc. when I write.

So I wrote this poem today and I was curious as to what you guys thought. I don't really write poetry (I write songs, but that's quite different), but this one sort of flowed from my fingers.

This is not love, I know that much;
For it does seem to manifest
An innate need for human touch
And self-perception not it’s best.

I saw thee amble up the stair,
Direct attraction I did feel -
Thy golden legs and golder hair
The center of thy pure appeal.

But seeing thee disparate is
From knowing thee, or touching thee;
This self-imposed forbiddingness
Will take its toll, increasingly.

This is not love, for love is kind
And cozy in its soft repose;
These notions filling up my mind
Reflect not love, but all my woes.

Vanessa Songs / Lyrics / Sheet Music / Vanessa Carlton...THE MUSICAL!

I would wait until she's published more than 50 or so songs before you start talking about a musical.

Woo! The National! One of my favorite bands! The lead singer went to my high school.

I like David Archuleta from the guys. I'm probably not going to watch this season, though.

No.

First of all, it wouldn't be fair - she went to New York School of Ballet.

Second of all, no. Dancing with the Stars is for non-celebrities.

Meet the Spartans was hillarious, but only like an hour and 20 minutes! i was like wtf isnt there more!?

but last weekend i saw the Orphange and it was in spanish, i thought it was english, so i was like ok great i have to read subtitles the whole movie. but it wasnt good and the ending wasnt clear so dont waste your money on it.

No offense, but I can see by these two remarks that your taste in movies is not to be trusted, unless you mature as a person and your sensibilities develop into something more... desirable.

Meet the Spartan is to movies what Jessica Simpson is to the art form of acting.

To keep on topic with the thread, I saw There Will Be Blood last weekend and I was absolutely blown away by it. Daniel Day-Lewis's performance was one of the best that I've ever witnessed and the movie was basically perfect. If you haven't seen it yet, then I highly recommend that you do.

I saw Cloverfield, I don't know what you guys saw. ;)

Anyway, I thought it was good. Not brilliant or anything, but intense.

Other Musicians / Brooke White (from American Idol 08, piano driven)
« on: January 20, 2008, 12:54:17 pm »
If they showed her, she'll probably be in the Top 50, at least. My cousin got cut off when they cut it to 50 or something like that (in the current season) and they only showed him for a second when they showed other people from Philly getting through. I doubt he'll be on again.

Anyway, based on my own personal logic, Brooke'll be on it for a while, at least if she was shown already.

I used to think the paparazzi stuff couldn't be SO bad and that, if you were a celebrity, it's a small price to pay for the wonderful life you get to lead...

BUT NOW, after seeing several videos and getting a taste for what it's really like, I'm convinced it would drive almost anyone completely insane.  I wouldn't be surprised if they are the sole reason for Britney's problems (although I don't think they are).

I partially agree, but here's my issue with that statement - if Britney truly didn't want the attention and the paparazzi around her then she could easily get away with it. Take a vacation to Wisconson or Montana or something. If she doesn't want to be bombarded by the paparazzi then she would go driving around Robertson Blvd. or hang out by the Chateau Marmont. She needs the attention to feel important.

Completely Off-Topic / are AP classes hard?
« on: January 11, 2008, 10:05:30 pm »
I'm taking AP US as a junior right now. Obviously it depends on the teacher, but I think that (in general) it's a lot of work. We do a lot of writing and analysis - they looked at our English grades for admission into the class. It's an interesting class and it can be rewarding if you put a lot of effort into it. Case in point - I just got back a 12-page research paper and I got an A+ on it. I put in a lot of work and it payed off.
