Entertainment - Movies / TV / Books / Thirteen
« on: August 01, 2004, 11:09:18 am »
Im not sure if there is already a thread about this movie so im sorry if there is.

I watched this film last night by myself and I have to say that it was excellent.
I've heard people say that mothers and daughters should watch it together because theres an important lesson to be learned and its great for descussion but after I watched it by myself I didn't really want to talk about it.
Its more of a thinking movie, well it was to me.
After the movie I didnt want to be sitting there with mummy talking about peer pressure and drugs etc.
But if your a younger person then maybe it would be an idea to watch it with ur parent.

Anyway enough of the blabbering. Thirteen is about a yound girl named Tracey.
She is from a broken family but seems to have it all together until she meets Evie, the most popular/beautiful girl in school.
Evie befriends Tracey and they start to take drugs, have sex and do everything that a parent wouldnt want their child to do.
Its an eye opener but its so brilliant.
If you can manage to get the DVD with audio commentary featuring some of the cast- Evan Rachel Wood (Tracey), Nikki Reed (co-writer and plays her first acting role as Evie) and the writer/director Katherine (i forget her last name) watch it aswell because there are some sceens that some people might not understand (like the ending) and they explain it.

Evan Rachel Wood, Nikki Reed and Holly Hunter are so believable and great.
Its also great to see teenagers as young as Nikki was to play a part in writing the script because teens can relate to it much easier.

I loved it  :D
The music was cool aswell, new acts and some fresh songs by Katy Rose.
Lemon by Katie Rose was written for the movie.

Other Musicians / Diana Anaid

Another Australian to add to my collection of favorites.
I didnt put her in the Aus singer/songwriter thread because I feel that she has been around long enough so she deserves her own thread.
Most of you wont know who she is even though she has been on the Aus music scene for over 14 years but she has just released her new cd and if you go to her website http://www.dianaanaid.com you can listen to a few of her new songs.
I recommend Last Thing, its the 1st release and if you listen to it you can tell why.
I cant really compare her to anyone to get you interested but I suppose if you like music by Avril & Michelle Branch you might like Diana.
Please check her out  :D

Other Musicians / Anastacia

Second try

I cant believe that no one has made a thread about Anastacia.

Well if you dont know who she is, Anastacia's first album Not that kind went to number one over here in Australia as well as her debut single Im outta love and her second single Not that kind.
She soon followed that cd with her 2nd release Freak of Nature that was equally successful.

Anastacia has just released a new single by the name of 'Left outside alone' which Australian radio stations are flogging. So thats a great sign, its sure to be a hit and hopefully another number one.
http://www.anastacia.com/images/leftoutsidealone.jpg
You can hear a short clip of it on her official website along with most of her video clips from Not that kind and Freak of nature: http://www.anastacia.com

If you like you could also visit her Australian website that has a ton of pictures: http://www.sonymusic.com.au/artists/anastacia/home/main.do

Anastacia also has her own charity in bringing awareness of breast cancer to young woman and she has also raised funds for the charity.
Anastasia was diagnosed with breast cancer in the early part of last year but says that there are only 2 songs on her new album that touch on her experience.

You can also donate to the charity if you really want to.
http://www.anastaciafanclub.com

If you havnt heard of her or her music and want to, please make the effort because you wont be dissapointed.
She is a fighter, caring and genuine person and Anastacia has one hell of a voice.
Please check her out :) <3

Creative Endeavors / Songs/poems I have tried to write...
« on: February 18, 2004, 05:15:36 am »
Well instead of creating a thread each time i write something i thought i might just make a thread for all of them.

Here is my first one, its not very good because I havnt really written anything like a song before, well i have tried lol.
This is something personal that I guess I wanted to share with everyone.

It is called: Sunburned Face

When innocence was taken she casted it aside,
her family, no longer there to catch the tears she cried.
As her legs cave in she falls to the ground onto the dead grass below,
her head rest in her hands, the things he could demand are running through her mind.
Thinking back to yesterday, the games she played,
a child lost in the crowd.
Her innocence was lost.

He thinks that hes above her as he cuts into the core
Hours run by as her story goes untold.
Taking sips of poison, dying from month to month
living in the shadows, all she wants to be is found.

In the distance she hears familiar voices calling out her name.
Dirt under her finger nails scraped from the surface of betrail.
Rain falls onto her sunburned face,
the calling getting closer
She waits as the anticipation grows a little stronger
wishing the victum she became wasnt any longer.

He thinks that hes above her as he cuts into the core
Hours run by as her story goes untold.
Taking sips of poison, dying from month to month
living in the shadows, all she wants to be is found.

The pain fades away after years of rememberance
Courage regained as she buries her pain
Free from the monsters of her damaged soul.
As rain falls onto her sunburned face he thinks that he is above her.
But he was deeply wrong.

Well I guess you guys dont have to like it but feedback would be cool.
 :D  Thank you for reading

Entertainment - Movies / TV / Books / Popular
« on: February 04, 2004, 05:46:37 pm »

Well the final series of season one is airing over here in Australia today in an hour an a half so cant wait to see it.

Even though the first season is pretty old (2000) and well we are always behind on the cool shows, im really glad that Popular was around this Summer.

If you havnt seen it, it is about 2 social groups at an American High School and they both start to merge when the Schools most popular student's- Brooke McQueen (Leslie Bibb) father and the not so pretty, unpopular rebelious Sam (Spam) McPherson's (Carly Pope) mother get married.

The show is full of satires, product placement and also shows what its like to be a 'typical' American student.

I really like this show and Im not sure if it is still playing on American tv or if its been axed, I also know that there is a second series so yay for that.

'Brooke' and 'Sam'

top row- Mary Cherry, Nicole, Sugar, Brooke and Josh.
bottom row- Carmen, Harrison, Sam and Lil' Lilly.

My favortie character is Mary Cherry because she is so damn funny and has me in stitches when ever she is on the screen.

Other Musicians / Lydia Denker

Well i dont really know much about her, or even where she comes from but what i do know is that her new song "One Perfect Day" really rocks.
It kind of has an Evanescence feel to it with the female vocal and the rock background.
The song is getting alot of air play over here in Australia which is cool and it is also the theme song to a new Australian movie with the same title (well i think its Australian anyway because it has Kerry Armstrong an Aus actress in it).

Also i found this picture and its supposed to be Lydia but I have no idea because i havnt seen her before lol.

I really like the song and her voice is nice also so maybe you could check it out, i dont think she has a website yet either because I looked for one.

Ok,ok,ok a few months ago I really didnt think that I would be making this thread but ever since World Idol ive been finding Guy more and more attractive and sexay!
Im addicted to his CD
My favorite songs off his debut album 'Just am I am' are: My beautiful friend, Angels brought me here (1st single), When doves cry, All I need is you and What a wonderful world.
His voice is angelic and believe me I was not saying that when I first heard him with his voice aerobics but now Im inlove with The Fro.

Guy is a 21 year old Christian who does not have a girlfriend but soon I hope to fix that LOL.

Here are a few Guy Sebastian sites you might like to check out:

« on: December 08, 2003, 05:13:00 am »
I know most of you guys will have no clue who Cosima is and probably never will but she was a contestant on Australian Idol.
Cosima is going to be HUGE when she finally makes it, the reason she didnt win Aus Idol (and she would of) was that she got some kind of voice condition that prevented her from continuing.
She got very sick and her Dr advised her that if she continued her voice would suffer.

Any way, the only other time ive felt this excited and interested in a singer was when Delta Goodrem released her first single so this is a good sign.

Here are some facts about Cosima:

When Cossie was on Australian Idol she sang songs such as: Predictable- Delta Goodrem
My heart will go on- Celine Dion and Hot stuff by someone I have no clue lol.

I got to see Cosima in person at the ARIA awards this year (i went with Aaron- NESSAussie <3 ) and she looked stunning.
I didnt get to talk to her buttt it was worth going just to see her meet one of her Idols- Delta.

Some more facts:

Other Musicians / POWDERFINGER
« on: November 05, 2003, 05:29:22 pm »
Powderfinger is an Australian rock group who well ROCK!
I got to see them live at the Aria's and they just blew me away even though they won Best Album and Delta lost to them I still like them alot.

Their new album Vulture Street is pretty good from what i have heard so far.
It has songs such as Love your way and On my mind.
So if you can and would like to,, please see if you can get your hands on their music from somewhere and you could visit their website at: http://www.powderfinger.com or to a fansite i stumbles upon: http://www.geocities.com/hindleysite/band/band.htm which is good also.

Love Your Way

I got to keep moving to stay warm 'cause I'm freezing in this room
And if I prove no good here I'll skip to where I should
It's only an imaginary vigil that we keep
You salvage what you need I'll take the love you leave

I love your way
I can't explain
What made me change

I'm wading in deeper ever deeper as I go
I drown the whole idea as I drift away from you
It's only and imaginary vigil that we keep
You salvage what you need I'll take the love you leave

And as the memory gathers dust, buried in its crust
Are the remains of what we've done and the seeds of what we just begun
The tapping of the rain beats a corrugated drum
And the city glow well it pulses on to the city hum
Until the day is done

I thought I would create a thread were we could all chat about the Idols.

At this moment Australia is having its first Australian Idol and its taking the country by storm.

The three remaining contestants are:
Cosima De Vito, a 26 year old Scorpian.
Cossie is a bit of a smarty pants who holds a degree in Commerce, but she’s not one to get stuck behind a desk in an office. No pen pushing for this performer! Singing is Cosima’s life and her dream is to become an international diva, writing and singing her own music. Move over, Celine!
(Cosima is my all time favorite!
She rocks so much and fingers crossed she wins, she also won me over when she sang Delta Goodrem's Predictable woo Go Cos!

Shannon Noll, a 27 year old Virgo.
Country boy, Shannon, and his family have just endured one of the worst national droughts on record and Shannon has been doing his best to keep his head above water, singing for his supper.

Shan is a sweety and has 3 cute kids Cody and Blake with his partner Rochelle.
If Cossie doesnt win I hope Shannon does.

And last but not least Guy Sebastian, a 21 year old Scorpian.
Guy’s original goal was to get into the Top 40 and anything he achieves after that while travelling on his Idol journey is an “absolute bonus”. Guy considers it a real honour to be considered in the same league as the other contestants.

Guy is also a wizz on the piano and likes to produce his own music.
Hes tipped to win

So just put your thoughts in about who you want to win in your country etc and Im going to love this thread!!
Thanks for reading.

Entertainment - Movies / TV / Books / Lost and Delirious
« on: October 22, 2003, 06:36:34 pm »
I saw this Canadian movie this weekend and it blew my mind.
Some parts are abit rude because it centres around 2 lesbians but other parts I really liked this movie.
Its about a young girl (Mary) who has just been sent to boarding school by her father and step-mother.
She makes friends with her room mates Paulie and Tori (Piper Perabo + Jessica Pare').
Any way Mary finds out that her rooms mates are seeing each other but accepts it until Tori starts to lose interest in Paulie and Paulie doesnt take it to lightly.
Its has a very dramatic ending that made me cry
But all in all its a really cool movie.
Piper Perabo is a very cool actress, and so is Misha Barton who plays Mary.

« on: September 21, 2003, 02:29:17 am »
J Wess Project is an Australian Hip Hop DJ.
The reason that I havnt posted about him before is because I thought he was from the UK or USA but I found out a few weeks ago that J Wess is none other than Australian.

He has been compared to the likes of Dr Dre, The Neptunes and Timbaland.

His new singles Bang This is doing so well in the Australian ARIA charts.

So if you are a huge Hip Hop fan (eg Danny lol) download this tune because you wont regret it.

Check out his website at: http://www.jwess.com
