Polls / Least favorite VC song?

What is your least favorite VC song?

96
This is not the o-VCMB.  We have Mods, and rules and are not afraid to use them!   :D

Please spend 15 minutes and read through all the rules prior to posting.  They're here to make your posting experience here more enjoyable.

1st) Please proof read your posts prior to submitting them.  You don't have to be an English major but don't purposely bastardize the English language.  "How r u doing 2 day?" or "|-|3y +h3r3" does not make you look cool, it just annoys the Mods.

2) As your post count increases, your Rank will.  Your Rank is that little Vanessa lyric below your name on the left.  Do not request that it be changed, it will annoy us.
Mods and VCUBs only may have their Rank Info changed.
    Current Ranks
    0: You're a Genuine Wannabe
50: Willing and Able to... Run
100: Make me high on lullabies
250: Just a day, just an ordinary day
    500: Your true colors shown
    750: You aren't tryin'
    1000: I'd Walk A Thousand Miles...
    1500: Fine as dandelions
2000: You never thought it'd hurt so bad
    3000: Keepin' secrets at midnight
    4000: Speeding into the horizon
5000: Just looking for some affection
6000: It's nice not to be so alone
7000: Will always reach too high
    8000: Who are they anyway?
9000: Summer dies & nothing lasts forever
10000: I know what you did...
    11000: I see the ruin[/list]

    C) VCUBs -- With time and support of Vanessa you may be initiated into the VCUB group and gain access to a hidden section of our forum.  You will notice several members of the forums have a special Unicorn icon under their custom Rank that looks like this: .  VCUB stands for Vanessa Carlton Unicorn Brigade (Thanks Trish!).  Don’t request to be added to this group… as we observe you helping others and supporting Vanessa you will be nominated and discussed amongst the group.  Do NOT take this gif and use it as your Avatar.  If we find that you have, it will be deleted.  If you continue to place it there, your Avatar rights may be taken away.

IV) Don't contribute to the idiots that show up and say "Vanessa is not talented" or "I don't like Vanessa!"  We have Mods for a reason... let them deal with those individuals appropriately.

    5) Don't be an idiot yourself.  Meaning don't spam the forums, don't post wh0re, don't start or contribute to a flame war, please post in the appropriate forum, read other topics before posting and use the search function before starting something new... Now, because there is no post wh0ring, there is no need to have "milestone" threads.  If you have 100, 200, 500, 1000 posts... we really don't care.  We love you and we're happy you're posting but leave it at that please ;)

    f) Don't start an entire thread to talk back and forth with someone.  Use PMs, AIM, IRC, Yahoo Chat or whatever other direct chat method... If you intend for your thread to have a conversation with many people, that is fine.  Don't announce you're here or gone, everyone can see who is online or not.

7th) Yes we like Vanessa here, just because you do too doesn't mean you're cool.  Save your love and praise for Vanessa for someone else.  Commenting on something she does well is fine but starting a thread because you're in love with Vanessa Carlton is another story. Also just because someone is your best friend, does not mean you have to start an "Appreciation Thread" for them. Save the ass-kissing threads for the O-Board.

VIII) Avatar Rules: Size Limit -- 100x100.  Do NOT use the Vanessa unicorn from the official Vanessa Carlton Message Board.  You wouldn't use it over there, don't use it over here... it's kinda disrespectful as that is her personal unicorn.  Sig Rules: Size limit -- Width=400 & Height=120.  If we find that your sig is larger than 400x120 we will PM you and you have 1 week to resize it.  This means you may only have a picture (or multiple pictures) in your sig reaching a total of 400x120... you cannot have two pictures that are each 400x120 totalling a sig that is 400x240 or something.  If you need help making a sig, check this thread.

    9) Remember to watch your language if possible.  We just want to point out that we do have quite a few younger visitors and just avoid the use of heavy swear words if possible.  We aren’t going to strongly enforce this but assume everyone will use their best judgment.

    J) Remember to have fun while you're here.  If you're not having fun, you may be banned.  ;)

11th) You MUST read the rules and FAQ prior to posting.  If you post something that is in the FAQ or covered in the rules, your thread will be locked with a helper text in Red pointing you to what you should have already read.  If you are upset that your thread was locked, get over it.  When a Mod locks a thread, it is the final say.

    42) If you create an account and don't activate it within 10 days, we'll delete it. We assume that if you don't activate it by then, you don't intend to use it. If our assumption proves to be wrong, just create an account again and remember to activate it this time! Just check your mail and click on the link we send you. It really is that painless.

XIII) Don't insult other members of the forum. It's not cool. We want you guys to have fun and enjoy yourselves here, and we're not saying you have to like everyone and agree with everything they say, but be respectful of others and their opinions. It will make your experiences, along with your fellow members experiences, much more fulfilling.

14th) It is okay to use the "report" button if you think a post is breaking forum rules. We suggest you use it. We can't watch over everything like Big Brother, but we're pretty close.

    o) If you have news, a live recording, or anything else to share, that's great. If you're here to share your experiences, that's great too. If you're here to gloat or flaunt what you know/have that others don't, don't waste your time--or ours.

XVI) When you make a thread title, make sure it is specific. If you are posting an article from Billboard with the title "Carlton's Fairytale", say something like "6/27/07: Billboard.com article - "Carlton's Fairytale"" not "Look what V said!?" ... It will make all of our lives a lot easier. :)

    17) Discussion of contact information that you don't have permission to give out, especially Vanessa's, is a bannable offense. Don't go there.

The list of rules is subject to change at any given time and breaking of the rules may lead to your threads being moved, posts being deleted, you being banned or you could just be ridiculed endlessly by the Mod team.

    Happy Posting!

    Thanks,
The Management – Also known as eclv, tricia, katia, Trolan, oveplasticlove, Vultch, B and Will.

    Live Shows / 11/23/02 Atlanta, GA -- Eleven50
    « on: November 22, 2002, 02:27:19 am »
So i ended up going =)

    Setlist:
C'Est La Vie, Papa, Unsung, Rinse, Prince, Pretty Baby, Sway, Swindler, Wanted, ATM, Ordinary Day, Paint It Black

    Encore'd She Floats and Twilight

    (I think that's it...)

Very good show.  The band seems really on tonight and Vanessa seemed excited to have her mother at the show along with Let, Steph, Jason, Scott etc etc.  She kept glacing over at them and smiling.

She came out with one of her red unicorn hats on saying she was having "really bad ass hat hair" thus she was afraid to take it off.  'Bout halfway through the show she took the hat off after asking if she should a couple times.

It seemed like Jesse had some problems a couple of times -- for the first part of ATM i couldn't hear him.

Pretty Baby was performed acoustic styleish with all of them "in a round" -- very good version of the song.  Sway was incredible... she was walking all over the stange and singing... she seems really into it.  PIB was even better, she was kneeling on the piano bench for a while, then at the end she was standing on the piano bench.  I got a few pictures.. Scott got some great shots.  Because i'm on dialup i'm only gonna upload one but here is the end.

She introduced ATM in a similar fashion... A Thousand Fucking Miles -- then noted that her mother wouldn't be happy she just said that.  She said how she missed maggie (her dog) but couldn't bring her on the bus as she'd shit all over the place.

Nate -- that man is crazy.  He was breaking sticks right and left and flinging them into the crowd.  Jesse threw several pics into the crowd (i got one) and Sasha was his usual cool self making the bass playing seem effortless.

Hung out with Nate and Mike after the show with a bunch of the local nessaholics.  that was a lot of fun

There were quite a few interesting characters in the crowd that kept screaming but it was fun.  Of course the entire crowd sang ATM and OD.

oh well... that's all for now folks.

Live Shows / Vanessa in Towson MD 9/21/02 -- Another long review!
    « on: September 21, 2002, 10:02:02 pm »
    Short Version:
    Set List:
    C'est La Vie
    Papa
    Unsung
    Rinse
    Prince
    Wanted
    Pretty Baby
    Sway
    A Thousand Miles
    Ordinary Day
    Paint It Black

    ********************************************************
    Long Version:
Ok, so i show up fairly late due to getting lost in the 'hood' in MD and i didn't care to see the opening bands.  I wait outside until it's close to 10pm (when Vanessa is supposed to come on) and i go inside.  I see Nate, Sasha and Jesse walking around on the right side of the stage... Nate is warming up -- he so rocks!

So the pink floyd music starts and i'm like "woot, she's coming on soon!"

There are a few things of note for this performance... the crowd (at least around me) was completely obnoxious!  Talking through the entire time about how they didn't know this song or that song, or answering cell phones etc... you get the picture.  I made a point that right before she was going to play ATM, i turned around and go "Next is A Thousand Miles..."

Vanessa was excellent as usual... she had a vew very interesting comments during the show which i'll quote in order... and her family came to see her!  very cool...

    Set List:
    C'est La Vie
    Papa
I like both of these new songs, i think they're very good.  I was really hoping she'd play Superhero, but no go... I like how she plays these herself on the piano and the lyrics to Papa are very cool.  I can't wait for the next CD with these songs!

*Band Enters* -- present is Nate, Sasha, Jesse, and Mike.
Unsung - I love what Nate does in Unsung... He twirls the sticks around and really makes the the song sound great.
*Mike starts playing the trumpet* She introduces Rinse and says "This isn't about laundry!... there is a lot of dirty laundry right now"
    Rinse
She talks for a while, and does an introduction of her band and mentions that she came to MD because she likes us and that she's a lucky gal to have a band like them because they're "fucking cool" (direct quote btw)

Prince -- The end of this song is so cool when the band just jams before her last verse

She goes "It's just you and me now because we have some business to attend to"... talks about how she's come along way because she used to just perform in clubs in NY.  She says "for all the boys and men in the audiance, don't be afraid of me..." lol... she goes into "Wanted"
*While talking, band exits the stage*
Wanted.  This is when you here some chick in the background go like "uh i'm sorry but she needs to like, play the songs people know" and i thought "oh my god, why are you here?  just go away you f'ing airhead...".  It's not like i drove 2 hours to hear them talk!! grrr.

She talks for a while about how she feels like this is a little living room setting and introduces Pretty Baby... She mentions that it's just a little Lulliby and the girls behind me again go "oh my god, a LULLIBY?"  (If anyone wants more detailed information about what she said, let me know... she said something funny about being able to talk like death i think)

Pretty Baby -- Great song ... everyone continues to talk, blah

*band comes back on stage* Nate begins to Jam for a bit
She gets up and instead of playing the piano, grabs a mic and sings this song while walking around the stage!

Sway - Make me high on lulliby

She talks for a while ago and makes some funny comments about not sitting on the stage telling us a bunch of stories.  She then goes into how she wrote ATM and how her mother was THERE that evening... and how her dog was barking, or howls in this horribly tragic sound.

"So tonight for YOU people, the good people, that come to the shows, i'm gonna play you all 'A thousand fucking miles'!!"

A thousand Miles -- during this entire song, the entire crowd was singing, and dancing it was crazy.  I heard more of the crowd singing then i did Vanessa!  "If i could fall, into the sky" everyone in the crowd is singing.. oy

Now THIS was the interesting part... When she goes to introduce Ordinary Day she makes some VERY cute comments about the whole ADD thing.

"So um it's really strange cuz people know me by songs on the radio but, i have other songs... this is the second song that one might know vanessa carlton by and it's called Ordinary Day" -- I think she knew that the crowd wasn't into her whole CD... very sad and very perceptive of her

Then she says : "I think you guys should know that I have "Attention Deficite Disorder" In case ya haven't noticed.. (she says this in this REALLY funny tone too btw) This is the one song i was able to complete in one sitting without getting up and doing something really dumb"
Ordinary Day -- yet another song that EVERYONE sings for... highly annoying as i could barely hear VC... ha ha ha

*Set goes dark, VC stands up... Nate hits the base and the guitar chims in...*

Paint It Black!  the girls behind me go "oh my god, she does THIS song?"  Then a few min into the song they go "Wow, she's incredible!"  feh...

The entire crowd (other then a very few VC fans) appeared to be going because it's "something to do".  As soon as she was done they left... i was hoping everyone would cheer for an encore but nope.. oh well.

Then i waited around outside hoping to ask VC to sign my CD.  Nate came out and i talked to him for a while... he's very cool and nice!  He made a comment about how "no one ever gets pictures of the drummer" so I told him i had gotten some pictures of him yesterday in VA Beach!  He asked if i could send them to him and gave me his email address! (No, you cannot have it!)

I walked over a little late as i had been talking to Nate, and Vanessa had already come out and there was about ~20 people around her.  She was giving a few autographs then some guy is like "that's enough".  I was extremely surprised at this because it wasn't like there was not a ton of people there!  I mean, it probably would have taken her like 5 min to finish autographs... Unfortunately, i didn't get an autograph :(  she got in the car and left.  So sad... I'm thinking about writing a letter about that.. then the guy goes "Maybe next show" and i didn't have a lot of confidence in that at all.  She didn't come out in Vegas (big surprise, there were tons of people there)... she didn't come out in VA Beach, will she come out next show?  doubtful..

No pictures as they were frisking people on the way in... no autograph either... she came out and got in the car with her family and was off.

Good concert, none the less, happy i went.

Live Shows / Vanessa in VA Beach 9/20/02 -- LONG Review!
    « on: September 21, 2002, 12:09:18 am »
So the pink floyd music starts and Nessa comes out... the end of the Pink Floyd song is an exact match for the beginning of C'est la vie!!  I'm hoping Joe can tell me the name of it... :D

So the set was as follows:
    Acompanying herself on the Piano
    1:39-4:34 C'est La Vie
    4:49-7:17 Papa

Band comes out.  Nate on drums (w00t), Sasha/Bass and Jesse on guitar and Mike on Trumpet/Guitar/Keyboards
    7:18-11:28 Unsung
12:01-16:39 Rinse "this is rinse, and it has nothing to do with laundry" -VC
"It's hot in here!" then i think she hmms "it's getting hot in here...i am getting so" then she goes "ok , i'm gonna intruduce you to my band!" ... very strange.  She mentions that being at the nava base is like being home as her dad is a pilot, then announces Prince!
17:28-22:36 Prince... I love the end of this song in concert when she jams on the keyboard, it's great.

    She talks for a while...
"Well Thank you! alright, so this is the part of the show where i'm going back to my roots because i just want you to know that i started out not being able to play for people because i was a dancer and i was very embarassed to get on stage, it's kinda hard especially when you're sweating... but i smell fabulous right now."  It should be noted that after this comment, i was the only one that screamed -- as aparently no one else there realized this whole 'smelling' thing is an ongoing issue for her.
Band goes offstage and Vanessa plays by herself:
    23:11-26:57 Wanted -- i was very excited... i love this song :)
She talks some more... makes a very funny comment about the next song:
"Ok so this song is gonna be the next single after ordinary day so you might wanna stick around and listen to it but um it's just right now it's just me and the piano wait *does a little doodle on the piano* ok this song is called pretty baby.. it's a sweet song and it's perfect for the navy, ok ready, this is a lulliby this is for what every girl wants a guy to sing to her or either way around so boys you need to listen carefully even tho there is a chick up here playing the piano you have to pay attention."
    27:37-30:32 Pretty Baby

    Band joins her again...
"Ok so one time i sat down at the piano and it went something like this *plays the interlude to ATM" and um my mother came running in from the living room, she's a pianist, she plays the piano and she's also a little bit crazy and she screams 'Vanessa you wrote a hit', i don't know what a hit is, i don't know what that means, all i know is it got my mom really excited and made my dog bark and so i think i was on the right track with this song and i just want to play it for all you fine people on this georgous evening... this is a thousnad miles!"
31:40-35:40 A Thousand Miles -- Joe, it should be noted that aparently she's been working on the beginning of ATM... it didn't sound like Megan Marie this time but instead a minimally garbled version of Makin My Way... :)  There was also a nice pause at the end in the usual spot... where i believe she waits for people to yell "tonight".  No one yelled tonight but everyone did scream!
"Thank you, ok so um i also have attention problems but this next song is the only song i ever wrote in one setting and this is a testimate to my concentration and this song is about 'love' which i've been told we write to many songs about that, but that's really unfortunate isn't? um this is called ordinary day"
    36:19-40:10 Ordinary Day
40:12-44:09 Paint It Black .. Her performance down Paint It Black is awesome.  She dances all over the stage and seems to really be getting into the music.  I enjoyed it a lot.

She screams "Thank You!" and walks off the stage... everyone continue to clap and guess who comes back out???   Non other then Vanessa!!!  And what does she perform?
    TWILIGHT!!!!

If you haven't heard unsung in concert you don't know what you're missing.  Off her original CD, unsung wasn't one of my favorite songs but in concert this song totally kicks ass!

I had to drive 3.5 hours to get to the concert... and hit a ton of traffic so it was rather annoying...I was fairly far in the back (about 25 ft away) and on the left side of the stage (if you're looking at it from the audience).  For those of you that have been to a concert you know that isn't the best spot as she places faces towards the right side.  I took a few pictures but only a few turned out... she also has a fairly dark stage which create a few problems...
    1) no point in using a flash if you're >20 ft away...and it just annoys the artists
    2) i can't hold the damn camera still enuff for night mode
    3) with the flash off, the pictures are fairly dark.

so that was the night.  overall i really enjoyed myself.  I'm kinda bummed i didn't bring my video camera in because they were letting people record the entire concert!  I assumed that it would be banned... oh well maybe some other time.

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / replacement picture for phpbb
    « on: July 08, 2002, 11:03:54 pm »
    hello,

i was thinking it would be nice to replace the phpbb picture with something vanessa related.  anyone have any suggestions or example pictures they would rather see up there?  either post the picture or provide a link so we can all check it out.  depending on the feedback for the picture i'll change it out
