Completely Off-Topic / I gotta kick out of this.
« on: October 01, 2003, 11:03:38 am »
I joined the army because they promised me:

#1 $20,000 for college
#2 1 year in language school
#3 that language school was on the cali coast
#4 a job specialty in Special Operations

Now I can tell you, I never really thoguht I would go anywhere when I signed up.  BUt when it came time to go to Bosnia, after all the training I had, did I feel like I had the right to say no?  No way.  Did I WANT to go?  No way.  BUt while there i never would have second guessed myself, or questioned why, or demanded anything more than what i was provided.  because it was my job, it was what i agreed to do, and I was proud to do it.  The military is truly an honor, I don't think enough people know that or believe that.  and sure everybody jokes about how tough it is sometimes, but deep down, i can't imagine anyone who isn't proud to have served....

Completely Off-Topic / R.I.P. - Robert Palmer
« on: September 26, 2003, 07:29:03 pm »
Robert Palmer died Friday (September 26) in Paris of a heart attack at age 54. His biggest hits were "Addicted To Love," which hit Number One in 1986; "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On," which reached Number Two that same year; and "Simply Irresistible," which spent two weeks at Number Two in 1988.

Damn if some pretty big icons aren't deciding to take off a bid earlier than expected...

Entertainment - Movies / TV / Books / most disturbing movie youve ever seen?
« on: September 17, 2003, 06:19:36 am »
I think disturbing and scary are two completely different things...

Most Disturbing:  I still stick with A Clockwork Orange as MOST
but I'll add KIDS, Caligula, and Scarface...possibly even Taxi Driver

Now if you want to add scary:
The Shining is scary as hell
and The Blair Witch Project because of its style creeped me out

Completely Off-Topic / RIAA Online Petition Spread The Word
« on: September 11, 2003, 05:31:32 pm »
That is one of the most poorly written and horribly justified petitions I've ever read...  i would sign a petition.. but one that doesn't appear to be written by a 10 year old.

Aids is most definetly not preventable Joey...

What crack are you smoking???  AIDS is quite possibly the most preventable disease on Earth.  AIDS has very limited transmission methods Rosie, people are choosing to participate in the risky behavior that spreads it... people are CHOOSING to spread AIDS... it could easily be prevented.

But why isn't there a day to think about all of the thousands of people starving in Africa?

Because we're talking about a day of rememberance in the USA, for an event that occurred in the USA.  I don't see the correlaton to events in Africa.  The events in Africa hold no relevance in this day.  But also, With the amount of aid sent from the United States both Public and Private to Africa... it's almost silly to imply that the US doesn't think about the situation.

Or the 400 people dying an hour of AIDS in South Africa?

See above...

Or the thousands who died in Afghanistan in the war America waged?

This has always bugged me about people who throw out sentences like this.  it was the same with Anti-war protesters.  How can you in good concience throw out a phrase like this and NOT mention the 100's of thousands tortured and intimidated women kept under the rule of the taliban.  How can you not mention the priceless historical sites and artifacts destoryed by them in their so called holy crusades?  I think you've been watching too much of the Beeb..

Or the people dying in Israel and Palestine?

Again, who said we are NOT?  is it appropriate on THIS day?  no. It holds no relevance.  Believe me I'm thinkiing about it.. I was thinking about how skewed the reporting was on CNN last night...  I'm thinking how im amazed there is still anger against israel as hamas openly announces they will attack homes and women and children... even as israel does it's best to limit casualties...  I'm amazed that sole thing stopping peace from occuring, Arafat is allowed to just go on, mocking the world with his bogus "peace" prize.

There are a lot of complexities in the world.. and none are out of the thoughts of Americans Rosie... certainly not out of mine...  but to think there's something wrong with a nation taking personal time to greave over it's own tragedy.. that to me seems wrong...

Completely Off-Topic / Users should not accept RIAA's offer of amnesty
« on: September 10, 2003, 06:32:12 am »
U.S. privacy group the Electronic Frontier Foundation is warning individuals not to admit to illegally trading copyright music online, even if the music industry offers a reprieve from its anti-piracy campaign, saying that users could still be subject to legal action...

...The EFF issued a statement Friday in response to several published reports that the Recording Industry Association of America was set to launch an "amnesty" program this week, in which it would excuse users who swapped copyright music online if they erased the music from their computers, destroyed all hard copies, and promised not to engage in future online piracy.

"Stepping into the spotlight to admit your guilt is probably not a sensible course for most people sharing music files online, especially since the RIAA doesn't control many potential sources of lawsuits," EFF Staff Attorney Wendy Seltzer said in the statement....

Completely Off-Topic / *Shakes Fist* At Ticketmaster
« on: September 09, 2003, 09:47:35 am »
All that has to happen is have the fans NOT support it...   simply DON'T go to any shows until they change it...

problem is you will have idiots that keep buying tickets...

Businesses DO respond to the consumer and if they start losing money because of this they wil respond.. so I would suggest starting a campaign against it... tell people to simply stop going to concerts where the tickets are sold through ticketmaster...
