« on: August 05, 2004, 09:22:10 pm »

C
Crashed on the floor when I moved in
This little bungalow with some strange new friends
                                 Am  C
Stay up too late, and I'm too thin
We promise each other it's til the end
Am
Now we're spinning empty bottles
It's the five of us
With pretty eyed boys girls die to trust
 G
I can't resist the day
No, I can't resist the day
C
Jenny screams out and it's no pose
         Am                                            C
'Cause when she dances she goes and goes
Beer through the nose on an inside joke
Am                        G
I'm so excited, I haven't spoken
Am
And she's so pretty, and she's so sure
Maybe I'm more clever than a girl like her
G
The summer's all in bloom
The summer is ending soon

F                        C               G    F
It's alright and it's nice not to be so alone
        C     G             F             C       G
But I hold on to your secrets in white houses

(same as first verse)
Maybe I'm a little bit over my head
I come undone at the things he said
And he's so funny in his bright red shirt
We were all in love and we all got hurt
I sneak into his car's black leather seat
The smell of gasoline in the summer heat
Boy, we're going way too fast
It's all too sweet to last

(same as last chorus)
It's alright
And I put myself in his hands
But I hold on to your secrets in white houses
Love, or something ignites in my veins
And I pray it never fades in white houses

F C Am   G
My first time, hard to explain
F C Am G G7
Rush of blood, oh, and a little bit of pain
F C G F
On a cloudy day, it's more common than you think
F C Am C
He's my first mistake
C
Maybe you were all faster than me
Give each other up so easily
Am
These silly little wounds will never mend
C
I feel so far from where I've been

F C G
So I go, and I will not be back here again
I'm gone as the day is fading on white houses
I lie, put my injuries all in the dust
In my heart is the five of us
In white houses

F C G
And you, maybe you'll remember me
What I gave is yours to keep
In white houses
In white houses
In white houses

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Vanessa on Friendster
« on: August 05, 2004, 06:18:11 am »
I am sorry to disappoint anyone that doesn't already know...
that I am Vanessa on Friendster...
or at least the good Vanessa on friendster
I only check it about once a month to add friend requests, etc
so I feel it's my duty to post some of the personal messages that Vanessa
gets from fans and friends - so, i am sorry if this is an issue for anyone - but i thought by adding VC to friendster we could have a little VC network there - but I feel it's almost invading VC's privacy cause I do get these messages... but anywho - here they are Vanessa - read them if you would like... sorry for any confusion anyone!

you can read more about this in the frente thread...

Jesse Plays Guitar!
Well, you probably knew that already. But what you probably didn't know is that he's currently playing guitar for Morrissey. Morrissey's standard guitar man is unwell; while we're not sure how long Jesse will be filling this gig, we do know that he will appear with the band on the Craig Kilbourne Show this Thursday, July 22.

Splendid EP 2004 / Album 2005
Official word on the Splendid release front is that an EP is scheduled for a November release in Australia. Angie says that it will be available online before that, though she didn't specify a timeframe. Splendid's anticipated album is slipping to a 2005 release. I'll keep you posted on both releases as information trickles down the ladder."

:.  Splendid (Angie Hart and Jesse Tobias)

Click here gig guide for Australia tour dates....
Splendid is Angie Hart (ex-Frente) and Jesse Tobias. Splendid will return Down Under to play songs from ‘Have You Got A Name For It’ and new tunes from the album-in-the-works, at venues in Sydney, Canberra, Newcastle and Melbourne.

It’s been a while since Splendid’s debut album, ‘Have You Got A Name For It’ was released on Australian turf, and it’ll be a just little longer before the sophomore effort is completed and available at a store near you.

Why is it taking so long? Well, the folding of their US label for one and subsequent shelving of their album outside of Australia for one. Angie’s ‘music’ heart was broken and she needed time out. Pursuing other fields of creativity she learned how to make and design jewellery for a company in her Los Angeles neighbourhood.

Jesse continued to do what he does most successfully, be a girl singer’s best friend. He proceeded to land a couple of extremely promising music direction gigs for then nobodies, Michelle Branch and Vanessa Carlton.

Jesse toured, Angie bejewelled, Splendid sat at home.

It must’ve been at least a year before the duo even contemplated a note towards a second album: ‘It took a long time of letting it go completely, for the music to come back, I had to really feel a desperate need to make my music be heard again, before the songs began to come through. I had to get the love back,’ says Hart, ‘and in order to do that, I had to put myself in a position where I had to fight to get it back.’

When time allowed between the commitments that had risen to take Splendid’s rightful first place priority, they began writing, mostly in fits and starts. The odd gem poked up through the matrix, for instance ‘Tomorrow We’ll Wake’, which found it way onto Buffy the Vampire Slayer in glorious demo form.

Jesse had branched out into producing and engineering recordings. He produced a handful of recordings for television that were featured on shows such as, Buffy, Angel, and Miracles. He also produced and developed a few independent records, including one for the Australian singer songwriter, Felicity Hunter, the acoustic production of Michelle Branch’s ‘Goodbye To You’ and an Emmy nomination for co-production and musical direction on the (Buffy maniacs take note) Buffy musical, ‘Once More With Feeling’.

With these tools he began recording the new songs that were blossoming on the homefront. ‘We live in a one bedroom apartment and don’t always have access to a studio, so there’s a pile of blankets we have on the ready for soundproofing, if the need arises. As soon as we hear our upstairs neighbour’s car pull out of the drive, we run around like maniacs, getting our ‘studio’ set up in the hallway’.

With Angie’s working hours, the upstairs neighbour, it could be a while yet before we can hear what some blankets, a few hours here and there, and the rumbling of the odd passing bus can do for a song.

They hope to bring a couple of tracks with them to share with you at these forthcoming shows. Keep your ears out for the tracks 'Iron Man' and 'Dear Friend' at radio now, and an EP to follow in July/August.

As for the rest they promise won’t take too much longer. "

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / "Vanessa Carlton Has Legs!"
« on: August 03, 2004, 09:53:41 am »

July 21, 2004

Apparently, young piano player Vanessa Carlton had another life before she became a Pop star - that of a ballerina.  And in her upcoming video for her new single, "White Houses," she finally gets to prove it.  Carlton told MTV, "There's a bit of schizophrenia in the video.  I'm a musician who just sits there forever, and I'm someone who likes to jump around and move. I actually have legs!"  In the video, while Carlton sits at her piano and sings, another version of herself gets up and dances around and on the piano.

Of the song itself, she said, "It's about jealousy, it's about losing your virginity, it's about living on your own.  It's a story that most people can relate to, that chapter in your life from 16 to 25, where you're trying to figure out who you are, and you go through all these triumphs and tragedies on a daily basis, and how they shape you. It's really the journey of one girl and her perception of her environment and how she starts out as a wide-eyed person, but everyone gets hardened by life, but not necessarily to the point where you can't feel anymore — all these things, in one little snapshot of a song."  "White Houses" is the first single from Cartlon's upcoming disc Harmonium, which hits stores on October 19.

July 30, 2004 - World Entertainment News Network
Vanessa Carlton is nervously awaiting the release of her second album - because she fears it will make or break her career.

The A Thousand Miles singer scored success when her debut album Be Not Nobody was released in 2002, but now that she's on the verge of unleashing Harmonium, Carlton is well aware of the pressure she's under to repeat or better her sales.

She says, "I've killed myself for this record! It's the most important record 'cause it's your second one so I think either I get to establish my place in music or I don't."

The album was recorded last winter at Star Wars writer, producer and director George Lucas' legendary Skywalker Ranch, and she is proud of the music she's created.

She continues, "I think the songs are more sophisticated. I think the lyrics are better."

There are 10 tracks on the album, which Vanessa helped produce, as did her boyfriend, Third Eye Blind star Stephen Jenkins.

She adds, "We gave it a couple of weeks to figure out if we were really gonna be able to work together. But he understands me really well and he's a great producer."

The first single from the album, which will be released on 19 October, is White Houses.
