General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Chris Martin cowriting??
« on: August 23, 2005, 12:23:44 pm »
On musicnotes.com it says that Chris Martin (and other composers listed on Coldplay songs) co-composed a few songs off Harmonium. I never heard about that.... is it true? I'd guess it is true since it's on a trustworthy site, but if it's true how come we never heard anything about it???

I was just wondering if you guys predict she'll have a big comeback song or if she will always just have a small tight knit fan base like she has now and remain just popular enough to make small albums............ I'm undecided.

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / V's most difficult song on piano?
« on: August 14, 2005, 08:51:30 pm »
Of all V's songs I've tried to play, I think Papa gave me the most trouble. I play by ear and I can't seem to hear exactly what she's doing to try to mimic it. I gave up after a little while and might start it up again, but it did give me a little bit of a hard time.

Are there any harder, though? I haven't tried to play all her songs. I thought Half A Week sounded really hard until I learned it and it's not too bad.

"If Vanessa Carlton intrigues you but is ultimately too squealy and Gilmore Girlsy for your taste; or if you're a Fiona Apple fan who wonders what the Zoloft Queen would be like if she was just as depressed as always but reasonably functional otherwise, then Ms. Yamagata just might be your bag of sadness." -Matthew Gonzales

I think it's pretty humorous without being rude... I must admit, VC is a little Gilmore Girlish and squealy =P

Other Musicians / Fave Lyrics from other artists?

"Cry in the Sun" -Better Than Ezra

You clean out your room and under your bed lay a picture long forgotten.
With a hand to your head you sigh out loud as the memory rushes over
and buries you.
A summer rainstorm, but the shed was dry with the girl from Carolina.
And you held her so tight for the warmth that the rain denied
as the time all slowed to a flash.
So alive, listen to them when they say...

Cry in the sun, when the devil beats his wife.
If you cry, cry cry in the sun.
I hope I never see the price of my freedom.

We'd dance and sing out, trace the moon as it crawled across the night sky.
Covered in dew, a lovers pact, "Here's to now and don't look back."
And oh how I tried to heed the words written here.

Cry in the sun, when the devil beats his wife.
If you cry, cry cry in the sun.
I hope I never see the price of my freedom.

For everyone, there's a person, place or time
that brings you back and makes you feel alive;
before the reason clouds your eyes
you could rule the world if you wanted to.

Well I hear you're living far away and that life's treated you well.
You know that we were young and this picture's old,
but I can still hear you say through the pounding of the rain,
and oh if you try, tell me can you hear them say

Cry in the sun, when the devil beats his wife.
If you cry, cry cry in the sun.
I hope I never see the price of my freedom.
I hope I never see the price of my freedom.

..... so those are some of my favorite lyrics. I think they're beautiful and BTE is a great under-appreciated band :)

so share some of your favorites because I love reading lyrics :)

Other Musicians / Jack's Mannequin
« on: July 20, 2005, 08:13:33 am »
In case anyone didn't already know, frontman of Something Corporate, Andrew McMahon, has formed a side project group called Jack's Mannequin. Their debut cd is scheduled to be released August 23rd (from what I've seen). It may be pushed back again, because as a lot of people know, Andrew has leukemia... Very sad, but he's said to be in recovery/remission, which is good.

The new single is called "The Mixed Tape" and can be heard at www.myspace.com/jacksmannequin  along with two other songs from the album.

Visit the official site at  www.jacksmannequin.com

And in case you didn't figure, the new songs are awesome!!  8)

Other Musicians / Better Than Ezra, anyone?
« on: January 15, 2005, 04:10:42 pm »
Hey, I went to one of their shows this past December and it was awesome. It was at the 9:30 club in DC if anyone's familiar with that. It's a small little place with standing room only and it's pretty much like front row for everyone (well, not quite, but pretty close). Anyway, they were awesome live- funny and entertaining and just as good as on their records (if not better)...

anyone else like BTE??

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / my personal shrine for vanessa
« on: May 28, 2003, 03:30:20 pm »
I use old pieces of chewed gum and construct them into the form of her head and then i sit in my closet with a pair of jeans under a dress (like vanessa), my hair half over my face like her and i scream 'a thousand f--king miles!' and then i play my piano and listen to her music all night long as i puff the magic dragon alone....
