Vanessa Songs / Lyrics / Sheet Music / Re: Get Good
« on: July 25, 2011, 04:52:55 pm »
Not sure if anyone has tweaked the lyrics more, but I think she's singing:

"Are the echoes coming back to you?
Is wisdom seeing patterns on a loom,
like a blanket around you?
And you were weaving colors
when i saw you.

But you're velvet on the moonlight,
or have you lost your constellation eyes?
Well, you could give it time.
I wish I could be there,
wish I could make it right.

And don't you worry, you'll soon be on the mend,
and that's no trick, that flicker of radiance.
And you'll feel lucky, darling, i'm sure of it.
You'll figure it out and get good again.
(Nah, nah, nah)

A Stonewall run, hills of green,
golden dust and dandelion seed, a bout of sorcery (not sure)
oh, it's been so long, this bout of sorcery, (don't think this is right, it might be a different language even)
oh it's been so long."

Oh, I watched the livestream, but I don't remember her saying anything in particular about it. She's all better I hope!

Very pretty.

She said she wrote this when she was "sick for a long time" and this song is the best reflection of that time. I'm wondering if she was physically or mentally sick.... does anyone know?

Isn't it Fairweather Friends, not Marching Line? Confused!!

This is the only song I've heard so far that doesn't do it for me. I don't know why, I just can't seem to get into it and it seems disjointed to me lyrically. Maybe it will grow on me, who knows.

I will just pick one from each album:

*Never cared, never wanted, never sought to see what flaunted / So on purpose, so in my face, couldn't see beyond my own place" (maybe just because I loved singing it, not sure)

*"You say we're too young, but maybe you're too old to remember." (because I felt that way!)

*"The cracks don't count, it's gotta break in front of me." (because I knew someone who was just like this)

*Not sure what my favorite will be off the new album :)

Vanessa Songs / Lyrics / Sheet Music / Livestream videos here

I made youtube videos for "Dear California" and "Tall Tales for Spring" because those were my two favorites from the Livestream. It's only the audio, but in case anybody would like a quick way of hearing them w/o downloading the whole Livestream, here you are:

Completely agree. I have a good feeling about this one guys... :)

So does anyone have an overall interpretation of this song's meaning? I'm loving the lyrics, just wish I knew more about what they mean

I may be completely off on this, but I get some sort of religion feel to this. I'll explain why:

God rest his head Sunday afternoon
And the wicked in me is surely the wicked in you

Typically, people go to church on Sunday's. It's a Holy day. The second line to me makes me think of some people who go to Church on Sundays and act like a good person that day, but for the rest of the week, they do all these bad things, whatever they maybe.

In the bible, God created the world in 6 days and on the 7th day he rested. I assume that's what she means by that lyric in a literal sense, but you never know if there's a double meaning! I think the next line would be about how everyone is part of the human condition so our feelings are all sort of the same as each other's in a broad sense-- the reason why we can "relate" to other people, etc.

Great song. Musically, and maybe lyrically my favorite so far!

If you click the link on her facebook page and then "more videos" or whatever it says in the UI, you can watch the stream at any time. I looooved "Tall Tales for Spring." Not the first time we've heard it, but I believe the first time with both the violin and guitar. It was awesome!

I just realized that the "riff" is just the C octave in arpeggio!! That is just so easy, why didn't I think of it? I guess I'm not Vanessa =P

I REALLY like the video on her website now. A couple of the snippets sound VERY alt, it reminds me of Azure Ray a little bit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LDw5r4_Tx8)

I am getting so excited for the album now because I think Vanessa could do very well with a more alt-folk slant as compared with the poppy sounds she's done before. I have noticed her singing becoming more delicate or melodic lately as well, I wonder if it's part of her new evolution :)

Thanks for the link. It's a very good song.

And yes, I do agree that V could do very well with alt-folk genre, but more of the dreamy and airy songs.. Just my opinion.

Oh, I agree. That's why I linked that particular type of song :)

The song at the end of the video sounds like a Kimya Dawson song :o

It reminds me of Azure Ray: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LDw5r4_Tx8

I love that type of sound. I would love Vanessa to make a softer more alt-folk album. I'm getting pumped!!

It's always been my favorite song off the album. It became especially poignant when my best friend and cousin both had baby girls at the same time :)
