Yes, many people do not know about Lemony Snicket. My friend started me on them and I started my town on them :) Despite the fact that his books are well-loved by the fanbase he has, Lemony flew under the radar, just as many other great authors have (Ursula K. LeGuin is a perfect example. Her book A Wizard of Earthsea was recently made into a miniseries- which was awful; atrocious if you know the source material as I do... I read the books because they sounded interesting and they are truly  beautiful works of literature.)
I advise you to read the books. They are touching, funny, and not too lengthy (I read the first book in about 3 hrs.)

I have done both (books and movie), and actually it is quite faithful except for a few minor grudges I had (since I am an ASOUE bookie). One was that the time spans they stayed at their relatives was greatly elapsed (I guess for running time reasons) and some of the plot events were out of order. But overall I loved the movie, and was very happy about how it was adapted. I'm sort of on the fence about Carrey as Olaf, as he overacts a lot. However, Olaf in the books does too, but his humor isn't as over the top as Carrey's portrayal... if you have not read the books, you may be lost and/or hate the movie. Most people I know who didn't read the books and saw the movie hated it, but my mother and stepfather thought it was good, so really there've been mixed opinions.

Entertainment - Movies / TV / Books / Elektra (2005)

What I found funny about the novelization is "ELEKTRA: The Junior Novelization"! Honestly, I was 12 when Daredevil came out and even then I was like, "OK... it's a blind guy in leather tights. Big whoop." Only later did I really appreciate it and start to get into superhero movies. But I can't see anyone under, say, 9 or so getting into Elektra. Plus, it's only 144 pages, half as long as the regular novelization- I think they can suck up the extra half :) Plus, Elektra's an assassin. Should 8 years olds really be reading about someone who kills people for a living? Eh... I guess it's not as bad as what's on TV today.

Is anyone else but me excited for this movie? I absolutely loved Daredevil and the novelization rocks. I've been reading a lot of message boards and such and many people think that the movie is going to tank. I'll gladly see it more than once. Does anyone feel the same way?

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / all I ask...
« on: January 01, 2005, 04:39:50 pm »
I think some of her old songs are her better ones. I like Ordinary Day better with the Divide and Conquer part, and Carnival, Superhero, and All I Ask are beautiful. It's actually kind of funny because I like some of her b-sides better than more recent stuff (Swindler and Morning Sting). When she played those two songs at the TLA concert I went to, I was so happy  :D

Dors anyone know how old Vanessa was when she recorded the demo tape? I've been listening to Carnival, Superhero, and All I Ask lately and she sounds really young, especially in All I Ask. If anyone could answer it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Introduce Yourself / Just joined... howdy
« on: December 10, 2004, 01:24:52 pm »
Hey, I just joined here but have been a 'Nessa fan since 2002 or so when I first heard ATM on the radio. I saw 'Nessa in concert on 10-30-04, as you can see from my signature, and she was amazing... Papa was the first song she played and one of my favorites off of Harmonium... hence my username. So... hello to all you NESSAholics!  :D
