They're Chinese? No, I think 'cause it's a "happy" color . . .yeah, happy. . .that's it. Smilies are smiling, which means they're happy, so they're in a happy color!

my art teacher in 7th grade said yellow was the first color you see when you look at things...if they have yellow in what you look like.

The modern smilie is a descendant of the "Have A Nice Day" logo that first appeared in the 1970s. The colour yellow represents the sun, the almost universal symbol for "day".
