Behind the smile
Underneath the layers of makeup
Beneath the shallow surface
Where she looks so perfect and so fine

She hides behind her façade,

Her true feelings
And an ugly secret

She cries herself to sleep

Her despairing screams
She hardly fights to stay alive

Doesn’t anyone know
There’s more than what the eye can see

There’s much more complexity
How can anyone not see?
She bleeds
And she screams “somebody save me”
Her screams sound like whispers
And no one can hear
And her tears aren’t there
‘Cause she is too perfect
Too perfect to cry
But she knows so well
That she wants to die
