err... never mind

Germany's Ratzinger is new pope
Joseph Ratzinger of Germany has been elected the 265th pontiff today by the College of Cardinals. He was announced as tens of thousands of people gathered in St. Peter's Square. He has chosen the name Benedict XVI, the Vatican announced. The announcement came shortly after white smoke rose from the Vatican chimney and bells rang to announce that a new pope had been selected.

yup, he is 78, gawd he won't last.

He is the cardinal that gave the funeral mass for Pope JPII.

I was sitting here all mellow watching some tv show and suddenly 'news flash' popped up and gave me a heart attack bc when they do that, its usually bad news.

How very predictable. In theory every unmarried babtised guy can become pope. Fitting into that category I'm a bit dissappointed that I wasn't chosen..., oh well..., I would've refused anyway; I don't look good in white.

yes, baptised catholic, and you must be ordained immedietly.

although if he is not baptised catholic there might be a chance if they are willing to convert.

oh and u must be of age of understanding, which is of course the legal age of drinking in your country. haha

Nah i think if the cardinals wanted a 17 year old to be pope, it would go ahead. imagine it. how cool would that be?

I didn't trust this guy exactly back when he was a Cardinal (though his conservative stances were right up my alley, he seemed to say some conflicting things), but reading over some of the quotes which have been brought up now with all the media coverage, I can fully voice my support for Pope Benedict XVI. VIVA PAPA!!!!!! :)

they won't elect a pope >80.

But I do think he was an appropriate choice, and I think he will turn out to be a good Pope inspite of his media rep.
