Vanessa Carlton - Heroes and Thieves (Review)
Monday June 11th, 20079:46 am
I was able to hear some tracks off Vanessa Carlton's forthcoming album, due October 24th on The Inc. Records. I will also post a song, "Hands On Me", later today. It's only the demo version, though. Here is the review:
1. "Nolita Fairytale" (Mastered)
This is a really sweet song. It's the first single, and I really like it. We need more songs like these on the radio. I hope it's a hit for her, I really do.
2. "Hands On Me" (Unmastered)
This is an accoustic version Vanessa did in a couple of minutes before fully adding the rest of the music. Irv Gotti of the Inc says it reminds 'me of The Breakfast Club'. I will be posting it soon, so be on the look out.
3. "Heroes and Thieves" (Mastered)
This is the most personal song on the promo CD. 'Heroes and thieves at my door/I can't seem to tell them apart anymore' sings Carlton, in desperation. This is one of the deepest songs I've heard this year.
4. "This Time" (Unmastered)
I don't really like this one. It's a little bland, and the beat is overused. The other songs are better.
5. "My Best" (Unmastered)
This is my favorite. It's a really personal song. Vanessa's vocals here are wonderful, and she sings out of emotion. I can't stop playing it.
6. "Thinking About You" (Mastered)
There's a guitar use in this one, which I completely love. I think this is my second favorite after "My Best". It's full of emotion. 'I'm thinking about you/I'm dreaming of you/You're my one and only' she sings.
