My new place!! (Need some ideas guys!)
« on: July 02, 2004, 05:59:52 am »
Okay. I just started moving in yesterday. In the blistering heat (at least, it's blistering when you're hauling heavy ass  boxes (ALL by yourself I might add!) up and down and having to haul a huge mirror down the street (it's a long story). I got sick I was so hot. Yeah, I know I'm sexy, but I mean hot as in my blood was probably boiling type thing.
"This is going to be lovely," I announced upon setting eyes on the place for the first time in three months. Apparently my imagination had distorted a few things since then. It was smaller than I thought, but it was still darn cool lookin'.
It's a studio apartment with one closet that's smaller than a locker- depth wise I mean- it's just as tall and wide as a reg closet. It has a LOVELY kitchen though with a restaurant style booth at one end (how cool is that?)
Then there's this 'other' section that's seperated by nice french doors (COOL) that has a bedroom area and the bathroom (the shower WORKS! Yet another thing in my apt that didn't)
Now my big issue and what I need your help with is this:
I have tons of pictures! In frames and whatnot. But there aren't any built in shelves or anything (one thing my other place did have).
Nothing but Ballet Studio things can go in the main "living area"- cuz duh, I'm using that for practice space. Barres, dance floor, mirrors, but that's IT. Nothing else goes.
So, for pictures I guess I'm going to have to hang them up on the wall? That's gonna look REALLY tacky. Especially since I can't afford to go out and buy new matching frames. Anyone have any tips for that?
Or any other living in a small ass place tips? Or I'm broke and can't afford jack squat tips? Either works for me.
The kitchen has a lot of space. It's probably going to be the 'living area'. I'm even going to put the TV inside a cabinet-cuz it's right in view of the 'booth'. Hey, I'm a dancer, you didn't think actual food was going to go in the kitchen, did you? Ha ha. No, actually, it's mostly cuz I'm broke!
I didn't move much in yesterday. Only a few boxes. I spent all day scrubbing and carpet cleaning and window cleaning- do you know how much crap can accumulate in an empty room left for three months? A LOT!
Things that I want to do:
Get white seat cushions with black foot prints on them to put in 'the booth'
Have the booth have that 'laminated thing' going on- like those old McDonalds' kids high chairs? I might just put a collage of pictures on the seat  backs, then cover it with something so they won't get dirty.
Get some Hello Kitty stuff for the bathroom, or something. Hey, I like it, shut up! Or any other 80's type stuff (I know HK is 70's deal with it)
Put my Disco Ball up
Move all my other crap in

Get MAIL!!! I LOVE getting actual mail. That isn't a bill. Or, to get things that are big enough to be delivered UPS (the UPS guy is hot!) cuz then he'd have to ring my door bell. I haven't had a working doorbell at my place in over a year! Yahoo!! I have to go email everyone my new address so they can send me stuff. It just makes my day.

More to come- pictures too, so keep checking this space.

you should have a blog, seriously, I think it'd b quite popular hehe =) and that way u'd have all the entries more organized and a nice layout( I can help with that if you want).

Anyways, about the pictures, why don't you just make a mural, I had one in the last apartment I lived in, I took part of a wall, and then I posted pictures, postcards, and ppl signed there too, like my friends left notes there and stuff.
Cuz since it's just a small part of the wall, it's easy to paint over it when you move out. I had fun with that :P And even though the pics were exposed, none of them actually got damaged or anything, they still look fine
I dun have any pics of it here in my pc, but it was something like this:

the wall :P
