Guitar Pick Necklaces...
« on: July 16, 2006, 02:58:08 am »
I got custom guitar picks made with one of my logos and my myspace address on them... then i drilled a hole and added a jump ring - put it on a necklace... voila!!! They are going to be for sale at my shows... how much should i sell them for? Getting the picks made was super expensive... about $1.00 a piece... so, I would rather make necklaces and earrings and sell them for a little more than I could sell just the plain picks... what do you guys think?

ps... they are so expensive because they have to make the screens for the first time you print them... everytime you reorder its a lot cheaper... anywho...

That's a really good idea... I had thought of that to do myself, when I get around to it... they say great minds think alike

Hmm, prices... I'd say maybe $2.50... then it's not too expensive, but you'll still make money. If you're selling CD's you could  even give it away free, as long as you're making enough from the CD's. Just an idea.

The pics look great.
I wish you the best of luck! And thanks for the request on myspace. Added! :D

well, I don't have an album yet... so this is my merch.....
i sell the mini buttons 2 for $1.00 ...
$5 is reasonable for the necklaces right? $10 is too much?
you have to also factor in the cost of the supplies to make the necklaces... the jump rings and necklace cording etc... those cost about $10 for 10 and the jump rings are about $5 for 100
so the necklaces just went up to about $2.50 a piece to make...
so charging $5 is not too high yet is $10? I recently bought a guitar pick necklace for $14. Which a lot of people I know gladly purchased including myself... yet .... i can't see charging that much at my shows... My goal is to make shirts and stuff too ... because until i have an album out... I just want to continue to spread the word... what do you guys think?

Just a question.. nothing to do with your merch but are you a signed artist or are you just gigging now? Do you have a demo tape in the works or finished? I'd like to hear you stuff

Well, I don't live in the area you do...but 10 dollars sounds like too much, but 5 sounds like a good price.  That doesn't turn over a big profit, but you're an indie artist and would probably sell more with a cheaper price.  Also, I know they were probably expensive/took awhile to get to you...but maybe you should have white ones too?  So more guys would buy them (not saying guys won't buy pink ones...but yeah).

Well, it's a bit hard for me to say, seeing your dollar is worth more than mine... but yeah, I would say $10 is too much. People will be much more likely to buy it if it's $5.

But anyway, I'll just shut up.

well, i think $5 is good too. I am an indie artist... I have recorded a two song demo but not so happy with it... so i am recording more... i have tons of live recordings though from my shows... I am indie... NO label...
i would like a label though... so i dont have to do everything myself...but mostly its just financally draining at this point and not too much of anything else... i am gigging... and as for different colors of picks... I wanted purple --- but they only came in super thick picks... i intend on getting more made though... this was just my first venture and wanted to test the waters first. When I have the money... i am going to do a different design and multiple colors... Thanks everyone for all your sound advice.

xoxo

I admire you for getting out there and gigging your ass off. I haven't done a gig for awhile, I'm focusing on perfecting my songs for recording. I'm not sure I'd call myself indie, because my goal is to get signed. My manager is cool and has contacts and now EMI's head of a&r (australia) want my demo... so I have to record it pretty soon. My manager used to work with a sound engineer/mixer who has gone on to have success in New York, so he is being really generous and is gonna fly over next year and record me. It's a great opportunity but I'm scared!

i wish you all the luck and happiness...

because if making music doesnt satisfy you... than you need to do something else... it is tough... it's tough to be criticed...it's tough to sell yourself... it's tough begging friends to come to your shows... it's tough being on stage and being entertaining... it's tough stuff... i make music because it's pretty natural for me... it's just something i do... but sharing it is a different story... that is not natural... being on stage is natural... but selling myself is not... and i give props to everyone else out there that is doing it and successful.

I relate. It sure is tough. My songs are like my soul in another form. How hard it is to put your heart and soul out there to be either shot down or embraced! No matter what you do, there are people who either don't like what you do, and people who will say hurtful things just because they are jealous of other peoples' talents and success. It sucks. But there isn't a real reason to be a singer/musician/songwriter/artist, unless you know in your heart that you HAVE to be, that it is what drives you, and it is a goal in the journey of your soul
