What is the deal with these dating agencies/personal friends
« on: August 21, 2006, 10:17:28 am »
Is it me, or are these dating agencies/personal friends just targeting nessaholics? There's another one of these threads in the off topic forum and it's not the first time they've appeared:

It's difficult to do. I think whoever is doing this shit is using a botnet, meaning that none of the posts use the same IP addresses. We're trashing the posts as soon as we see them.

how about banning them through email addresses?
are they all comming from the same place? isn't there a way you could ban anyone from registering if their email address is @something.blah

if not, it cant hurt to ban all the individual email addresses seperately

also, check the IP addresses, if they're all similar, but their endings are different, you can ban them all easily, for example,
say 2 of them use these ips:
123.45.37.88
123.45.37.42
you could just ban 123.45.37.*
or even 123.45.*.* if the last and 2nd to last digits are different.

if they're completely different, it still wouldn't hurt to just ban each one individually, im sure after a while you would've banned them all.

....just trying to help :D

They just keep on using different addresses.

Like I said, I think they're using a botnet. None of the IP addresses they are using are in the same subnet.

Captcha (sp?) is supposed to be filtering these out.  With sufficient computing power and a well crafted program, even the Captcha images can be overcome.  It's best to just let the mods and admins do their work.
