WELL. Back in the days of records - one side of a record is called the a-side, and the back of the record is considered to be the b-side. On single releases, the actuall single would be featured on the a-side of the record, and another song which would accompany the single, would be tracked on the b-side. And the termonology just carried over.

Usually artists include b-sides on singles that don't make the album cut.  :)

i see....so even if some of the songs we have heard, like 'best behavior' and 'all is well' don't make it onto heroes and thieves, they might be b-sides?
