Sustain sounds better here on NF. :)

Her voice sounds a bit tired and more nasal than usual though.

well it was in the morning so you have to giver her that much.

Yeah, well I was just thinking that maybe her voice is strained since she has been performing a lot lately. Also, some days you just sound better than others, you can't really help it!

thanks kulp! you always come through --

& I am listening to Home right now, and I think she sounds just fine. I still can't believe she hits those high notes. Not sure it's worth the effort, but whatever.

Haha, they aren't really that high. Listen to "Fear" by Sarah McLachlan if you want to hear high =P

JJ was telling me about this when we were at the game on Sunday. I am interested to check it out.  :)

I know... that's why it's sorta sad for me. Don't you think it sounds like van is straining her voice just to hit those notes? They don't sound through nearly as strong as I think they should. Thank god for technology lol  I still love you V! muah

Actually, I think the problem is that she tries to sing those notes strongly when for her voice type they would sound a lot better sung more quietly and delicately. On one of the newest recordings we have of Home and Fools Like Me, she does a better job of hitting the notes and using a bit of vibrato instead of just the flat note, but I still think she could take a lesson from Jewel or something on how to do high notes. Sarah McLachlan does a good job of singing the high notes strongly (listen to "Fear"- great song), but her voice is a lot different than Vanessa's and she has had a lot of vocal training.

And I've always wanted to cover "Fear", too. I'm a soprano but my voice has gotten a little bit lower recently and I can't always hit the part - "there's nothing I'd like better than to fall" without sqeaking. Hehe. I found a reallllly good recent live performance of the song. As unbelievable as it sounds she actually sounds better singing it live than on the studio version and it's like 10 years later!
