I personally don't like it, because her voice sounds incredibly harsh in it. There are points when she is almost shouting instead of singing. And I also don't find it nearly as interesting as some of the other songs.

i'm just bitter because it's best behavior's uglier cousin.

but i mean that in a way that means that i still think it's okay, i just wouldn't want to date it. best behavior should have been on the album over spring street or this time. and all as well should have been on there too.

Yeah I don't really understand why people would hate on this song either...this song is so beautiful. I would say it summarizes my life, although alot of Vanessa's songs do. I do agree with her voice sounding weird in it though. When I met her back in November, I almost wanted to ask her "You didnt really want This Time on the new CD did you?" She sounds very unhappy and unenthusiastic during the song. Makes me sad.
Anyway amazing song, its more wonderful art from Vanessa.
The only one I come undone for is you...

I liked it when she performed it live, but on the album, it's too slow, but i still like it.

p.s. Are we ever gonna get a studio version of Best Behavior?

I think its always going to be one of those tracks (given the difference in
the vocals particularly between the album and live versions) that is going
to be better live. Its like no-one is expecting V to perform Streets live lol

There's nothing terribly memorable about it, and it just doesn't have that Vanessa flair that makes us fall in love with a song. And I agree, I would have rather had either Best Behavior or (especially) All is Well.

I like all of her songs no matter how she sings them, its really the way she wrote her words and how much those words at that moment meant to her. Honestly, I didn't like anything from her third album... It was just so different from Harmonium and Be Not Nobody (and I feel harmonium is her best.) But, if you listen to all of her songs you get a glimpse of how she was feeling and how she was living her life. Its sad but This time is a good song. I like it.

well i don't know it took some time getting use to it. I don't know it all sounded forced except for Nolita Fairytale and maybe thats why it was her first single on that album?

I like them now, but if you think about it all her words are so simple and full of her ex. Thats mostly what it's about. I'm not against it I just thought she would be different than that. But I guess there are times that you have to let it out before it consumes you.

I like the lyrics in the verses, and I've come to have an appreciation for the song after playing it through on the piano.
And needless to say you're the one that I need the most...

i just think it represents exactly what is going on in her life.. she's just like any other songwriter - she writes what she's feeling. i don't think it sounded forced, because this is clearly what she's feeling. i mean, fools like me? my best? the one (even though it was written while they were still dating).. they have THIS IS ABOUT STEPHAN JENKINS written all over them. because they dated for like, 5 years? or something like that, and he was a huge part of her life.

to each their own opinion.. just trying to explain mine. :)
