Given the fact that I haven't heard Carousel on the radio once and most of her promotion has been on little websites I'd never heard of before, I'm not terribly surprised or all that disappointed.  An album costs, what, $10 a pop?  That means Vanessa made $65,000 this week.  Don't feel too bad for her, lol.  Let's just enjoy the music - and actually request at our local radio stations if there's a second single instead of sitting around wondering how it'll do.

Two days ago Barnes and Noble was playing the entire Rabbits album.

They split it between a lot of people. Vanessa probably gets the biggest cut.

Definitely, since she wrote all the songs, helped produce, financed it, and basically did most of it herself. I don't know what sort of deal she has with R&T, though.

I'd imagine since she financed and wrote the album she'd probably make around $1.50 - $2 per cd sold maybe (don't forget the label's cut, the profit needed for the retailer/distributors etc)... she probably shipped around 15,000 albums (shipped and sold albums is different)... between $22-30k. then she'll be taxed. and thats all the money she'll make off it for now, it needs to ship more copies which will come hopefully when the next single gets on radio/promoted, touring etc.

then don't forget that she actually financed the album. the money she made off shipping the album probably won't even be a profit... recording, hiring producers/technicians and travelling isn't cheap.

Yeah. Not to mention this album was recorded to tape which is hella expensive.

I think she'll be fine if she keeps touring. She seems keen on that idea, so that's good considering it's where the money is nowadays anyway.

There's still other stuff other than the cd/tour like the vinyls, posters, digital downloads, sheet music book, and other merch that might come to add on to the money.

With Vanessa i think she's pretty set for life from earlier royalties. Artists who write their own music make much higher returns on royalties. A Thousand Miles is a universal song that will be played forever and used forever.

Yep, Vanessa is going to be fine. It would be nice if she made a decent profit from a project she spent so much time, effort and money on, however I think she is way better off financially than most think she is.

I agree, she also doesn't seem to live a real extravagant life style.

I'm wondering how Vanessa feels about these stupid riots in London, seeing that she basically made the album there (technically near there). I'm glad that these riots didn't start when she was in England though
