this is what i heard from the live version:

So tell me now how these few years have been
When it's living to honor the past
And I have been well, I say through a smile
These feelings they come and go fast

Light your cigarette, see the flame in your eyes
Sing me that new song you sing
The time for you and I was never quite right
It matters and means everything

So are these three songs supposed to be for the next record, or do we not get them? Hmmm
The song may be over, but the music never ends.

Really beautiful and haunting. Anyone have any idea of a meaning?

After listening to it a bunch of times in a row, this is my take on the meaning.

She's talking about seeing someone in LA she used to be in a relationship with.

"The garden walls grow quick, before you know you're outside of it, and the ivy's coming in, it's so beautiful if you can find it."

Their relationship ended so quickly and it took her by surprise how quickly she was on the outside, but time moves quickly too and the ivy has grown around the wall (their relationship) so now she no longer feels the hurt and can look back on their time together fondly. It's beautiful when the ivy grows and you can be friends with someone despite the pain they caused you.

Also, the when she says, "time's always been kind to you, some people still fight their fate" I think she's talking about how people try to get surgery/procedures to look younger and "fight their fate" of getting older.

I think the fighting fate part has more to do with the inside than outside of a person.  life has a funny way of throwing curve balls but we always wind up where we are supposed to be at that very moment.  I think our life path is some what planned out as far as our ending goes but how we get there is up to us.. so no matter how you fight (deviate from the path) you'll always wind up how you were supposed to .. your fate. Further, those who hide their true selves will never be able escape who they really are; any lies you've told (to yourself and others) about who and what you are will catch up to you and you will either be miserable, or reconcile those things you try to hide.
edit: I read the lyrics again and I see now that it does refer to physical because time has been good to you is a compliment to how one ages!
I still like the internal person interpretation too!  ;)
